I got a little story. So, I’ve played this game many of times. Going back to me being a child in the 1990’s and experiencing it again in recent years as an adult. I really only enjoy older games. I remember when Zero died. It impacting me. It made me feel for once that a buddy of mine died within game. Like losing a friend in war. As a child, this did impact me. Recently, a few years back. My at the time daughter was only six years old. She was watching me play this and we got to the part we’re Zero sacrifices himself. She actually got really emotional. And I had to explain to her that my friend is gone and he died and isn’t coming back. Of course we all know later installments that Zero is revived. But, it’s just crazy how I experienced a moment like this where a character sacrifices himself to save another.

I also got really emotional when I was younger about megaman. I remember in X3 I think when megaman has to fight Zero balling my eyes out watching my older brother play and being like “No!! Stop!! He’s your friend!!” Lol. Honestly, it’s a testament to how good the stories were in these games too as well as the music obviously. Shit I’ve been getting emotional listening to this whole soundtrack. I also left a comment on here about how I only play older video games too. They clearly don’t make ‘em like they used to

They played it nicely in Maverick Hunter X where they both die, but X and Z stop Vile with all their strength. Obviously, it's non-canonical, but I have the impression that when something is non-canonical, it is more engaging, has more content and simply has been put into it more.

​@@sharpenedsphere8345 I mean, maybe that's the case for the other games, but if you notice the backgrounds in X1, the intro stage takes place at the crack of dawn, whilst the Maverick's stages are all happening during the day, with it finally becoming afternoon in sigma's stage 1 and 2, evening in stage 3, and late night in stage 4, before the sun rises again during the credits

Use armored armadillos shield while jumping over the bottomless pit so those flying robots wont hit you. Do that and the rest of the stage is no problem.

It's more sad when you play Maverick Hunter X and read the novel and realize a lot of things. Zero was the original Maverick and Sigma fought and defeated him to stop him, but was infected by Zero with the Maverick Virus. Zero almost died but survived and was cured. Sigma was X's mentor and all the other Mavericks were once X's friends. So his mentor and his friends all turned against him because Zero's Maverick virus infected them all. Zero fortunately became a good guy and sided with X to the end - but it was all his fault. X had to kill his former friends and his mentor he once respected, and watch his friend die. Becoming Maverick could also only mean they wanted to be free. Chill Penguin said " From the very moment we’re born, we’re Reploids: machines for the purpose of making the humans’ world prosperous. In other words, as soon as we’re created, we’re already treated as inferior to humans. No matter how hard we struggle, we can never rise above them."

@@Argedis Indeed, indeed! I do indeed find myself agreeing with you! That does seem to be accurate! The only part where I find myself wondering was where you mentioned it being Zero's fault. While I understand why you view it in that way considering what you described (if it's how I'm understanding it), I think that I see it differently (I could be wrong here). I feel that it isn't his fault either due to the fact that he was simply created with the virus in his system. I don't think that Zero knowingly spread the virus; he seemed to be just as much the tragic victim here as everyone else (similar to how a sick person who doesn't know that they're sick unknowingly getting others sick (also known as a "Typhoid Mary"); it's different if they knowingly do it or have no care for the fact that they are spreading the ailment around). Of course, I could be looking too deeply into what you meant by fault and you just used the word to simply convey the idea that it came from his body! Either way, if you're fine with that, I'd like to know what you think! Glad that you made the comment! Same goes for you OP!

However, if he had simply been defeated by Sigma and died, the world would have been a better place with no mavericks. Similar to the movie "The Butterfly Effect" he finds out the world would have been a better place without him. In the end Zero died anyway and X was left alone. (I like to think of it as the true ending not counting the sequels)

@@Argedis I'm glad to see more of your views on this and that we could come to an understanding! Thank you! Indeed, if Sigma wasn't infected as soon as he was near Zero's capsule/when he punched Zero's head crystal to knock him out (I think those were 2 instances of possible infection), then what you've stated would seem to be the case! Sadly, that defect in Zero's programming was in control at the time (until, ironically enough, it apparently got fixed once his damaged body was exposed to more of the virus (if I remember correctly))! Indeed it is very similar to the "Butterfly Effect" in that regard! Funny though, it really does get one to wonder how that would also affect X since Zero was his best friend who realized the potential he had within him (one of the main people who truly saw it before most (Sigma was also one of those who did)). Seems to be wild and tragic all-around! And, that is indeed fair how you view it as the true ending!

I think i gained sentience with this theme when i was 4 years old and made my first memories, thanks to my grandpa, who introduced me to this game at that age, man do i thank him a lot for that, without that, i'd probably not be here at all...hell, i'd probably not like games at all cuz of that, i wonder how different my life would be cuz of it, still, crazy that this whole game holds many, if not all, of my first memories made, how i could beat sigma without knowing how to dash properly, my grandpa celebrating my victory over him, ohh boy do i miss those times, when everything was waaaay simpler than now

This is my favorite track of the game with Armored Armadillo as the second fav but those are not saying much cuz I think this is just pretty good and the soundtrack as a whole is just ok, I prefer the classic group of six soundtracks. I think the Sigma stage tracks peak with this one and then get worse, kinda fitting but worse later on-- hey, just like in Mega Man 2! I first heard a variation of this several years ago, probably the remade version in Metal Sonic Overdrive, a Sonic romhack and it took me until this year to find out that it's this track. I like the late game feel this one gives alongside some tough vibes.
