"Volt Catfish is actually pitifully easy." Kevvl gave him a 10 in his Buster-Only No Damage runs, but it looks like he wasn't aware of the safe spots. He did say staying in the top left corner was supposed to work for one of them, but he got hit once during it so concluded that wasn't a valid safe stop and that the sparks were all RNG. He probably just slid too low on the wall.

BigKlingy More than likely, yeah. One of the sparks does fly close to the corner, so you really gotta mash the button to stay up there. Dodging it from the other side is just easy mode Dynamo Man since you have an actual audio cue to count instead of counting lightning flashes.

PinkKittyRose Having seen both your Volt Catfish video and Kevvl14's, it's a trade-off. On the one hand, Kevvl had hundreds of attempts but was also shooting down the right shield Volt Catfish puts out during the 2nd half, and said his successful attempt was on a different day after getting too tired. You, on the other hand, made use of charged shots and Maverick weapons but you also included Vile in your attempts;, Kevvl judged Vile's "stage" difficulty in a vacuum. You both have enviable amounts of patience, as well as skill you both downplay. The "easy mode Dynamo Man" comment makes me think of the following exchange from Dragonball Z Abridged Krillen: Goku! I can't believe you're so strong. Goku: Well... I did train at 100x normal gravity. And then 90% of us are Vegeta, shouting expletives out of jealousy but standing on the sidelines while you do cool stuff like beating Yakuza in Metroid 4 without even knowing it can grab Samus. Keep doing that cool stuff you enjoy.

BigKlingy I watched Kevvl's Volt Catfish video again. At first, I had no idea why he shot the shield, but then I realized it was because he also banned upgrades for his perfect runs. He needed the additional horizontal space during Volt Catfish's charge attack because he couldn't use air dashing, and needed time to wall jump. The arc of the jump means it is more likely to go too high and hit a spark. Thus: the "shaving pixels" comment. If I were to ever attempt something like this, I would prefer to take advantage of the upgrades, as Pink has done.

nosamename8085 Yeah, you can't really compare Kevvl and Pink's runs, because Pink uses Charge Shots, upgrades and weapons. Both are amazing shows of skills, but they're quite different.

Maybe I've missed it, but I have yet to see any playthrough of X3 highlight that if you keep mashing the weapon button when using Triad Thunder it will invert around you up to three times before firing off it's energy and falling away. To me, that makes it far more useful as a shield-type weapon. It's been a while since I've played it, but I believe you get those three uses without any extra weapon cost!

What the blue barrier shield does is it reduces the next hit you take by I want to say half, but only if you take the hit within 5 seconds (and it only reduces the first hit). The red barrier reduces all hits for 5 seconds by at least half.

So I'm gonna be honest. This stage gives me all the feels. Back in the day, I rented this game a handful of times. The first time, I dug it but was pretty bad. The second time, I was able to get to six of the mavericks, with Tunnel Rhino and Neon Tiger's mini-bosses hampering me from being able to say I'd gotten to all 8. The third time, I got to the same six maverick bosses, and came so god damn close to beating Volt Catfish. And the fourth time, Volt Catfish was the first maverick boss that finally suffered defeat at my own hands. I honestly can recall few moments that were more fulfilling in my gaming youth.

Regarding the downgradable enemies, the red ones with homing missiles that get turned into green ones without and missing their cannons: I believe these are the ones referred to as "Victoroid (Customer)" and "Victoroid (Masspro)" in the cast credits. That presumably means custom and mass-produced, respectively. Knocking out Blast Hornet's airship full of cargo seems to partially disarm those...

That missile sending enemy is very easy. Just charge your buster and releast it just before it is seen and jump in advance. Alternatively jump+dash over the enemy and hit from behind Regarding hard enemy I found those BIGG RED ENEMIES WHICH STRECH THEIR SPIKEY TIP ARMS VERY HARD They take more hits than other enemies with mid bosses being exception It's a nightmare if you are in a narrow section

Actually, the ones with the missiles (and the cannons on the "Customer" version) are Head Gunners. Victoroids are the green humanoid enemies that try to jump over your charge shots, and Victoroid (Customer)s are their upgraded versions found in the full version of Doppler Stage 2 (the one you have to destroy Vile with his weakness during the Maverick stages to access).

Trust me, the in-game Collections version isn't nearly as bad. It's just that Pink's recording software and the Collection don't see eye to eye, thus the rather earsplitting audio. You can find the in-game version on KZbin and be the judge for yourself. Don't let this recording of it be the final verdict (personally, as a fan of some of X3's tracks, Blizzard Buffalo's was the hardest to listen to so far. I'm dreading what the software/Collection combo has planned for Blast Hornet and Gravity Beetle as they're my favorite themes from X3).

If you are brave, you can just stand in front of Vile's Ride Armor. He won't run into you but stop to punch. Just jump out of the way and let him follow. This way, you don't have to change sides after every hit. Once the turret ennemies are downgraded, I like to use the first elevator (5:20) section to fill my Sub Tanks by using Frost Shield (the green turrets go down in 1 hit, the red take 2 iirc). On Volt Catfishs 2nd pahse: I seem to remember a LP, where the player mashed the buttons fast enough to break his barrier with pellet shots. Should make the battle a little bit shorter, even if you don't use the Tornado Fang. Reagrding Triad Thunder in vertical sections: You can extend the time of the shield by repeatedly tapping the button. This way, the triangle will turn upside down up to twice before releasing the lightning bolts.

I don't understand how the armor upgrade work in this game either. According to the database, while the shield is up, you take even less damage, but I never found it to be the case in actual practice. Also, the Kangaroo Armor, the ride armor you used at the end of the video, is the most pointless armor in the game. Sure, none of them are useful, but its drill arms don't do increased damage, not that it really needed it, and the charged attack doesn't open up new segments of any kind. It's ultimately just the normal armor with a different look. Also, is it just me or do the instruments for the anniversary version are off key? I don't remember it being this bad in the PS1 version of X3, cause I listened to most of its soundtrack, and while nothing fantastic, everything sounds more on key.

ShadowdaHedgie11 Vile's always been one to overly rely on his Ride Armor to bull-rush his enemies- even back in the first game, he simply relies on the ride-armor to power through- and again, once you get him out of the armor, he turns into an easy, predictable fight. Same thing here- though it's possible Doppler may have skimped on the intelligence to fit more guns on- or at least Vile might have once he left Doppler in the dust to try and do his own way of killing X again. Could also key it to Sigma not wanting to have to deal with Vile deciding to come after him after X was destroyed- I get the feeling that where Sigma just wants to take over, Vile wants to destroy everything because that's just how he is.

Rain Feather I doubt Doppler skimped on the intelligence. Vile was never that smart to begin with. The second thing... eeh. Vile did come after him once, if you're going to take Maverick Hunter X as canon. But even Vile had no idea what he was going to do if he got to Sigma. Vile can basically be summed up in one sentence: "I hate X grr rawr VILE SMASH"
