Food here in Australia is going through the roof. Its crazy as we grow and produce so much here. It seems the only offers at the supermarkets are things like cola and chips and rubbish food. Why cant offers be on fruit and vegetables. Thanks for your videos always so interesting.

@@farmerwife8412 and even more awful is that coles and woollies have posted BILLION dollar profilts in the first 2 quarters of the year. I don't know of any other country that would permit this. Lower wages and everyday people thinking twice before buying something and the big boys are raking it in.

I used to be one of this people that bought free range/organic, but I’m feeding 3 sons and a hungry hubby and I just can’t afford it. Your veggies, condiments, and cleaners are cheaper than ours here in Ohio. But I think our meat is comparable or a little cheaper. Thank you for sharing your haul!

Ohioan here, and I think you didn't take into account that her prices are for kilos of food; 1kg = 2.2lb, and by my account, this is almost half the price of meat at my local Kroger. for example: her potatoes were $6.5 for 11lbs.

I recently bought 50lbs of red potatoes for $34.00. .70 cents a pound. We pressure canned 28 quarts and still have plenty on the cellar shelf. Aldis had eggs for .98 a dozen. I bought 2. I didn’t need them, but… I have 2 dozen eggs from a friend $1.50 per dozen. We just bought another freezer, we’re expecting 15 farm raised chickens. Some people might think we’re crazy to buy so much food for 2 people, but we like good quality homemade food. We don’t waste and love leftovers. 💙

One of the things that strike me is that food quality in Europe is so much better than in the U.S., I could feel it when I visited Europe twice last year, even the the regular breads didn't give me a reaction, here I have to stay away from wheat or my body and tummy feel miserable. Going to England in a couple of days and hope it's the same because I want to eat lots of baked stuff :)

Your videos are so enjoyable and enlightening. It is interesting to compare prices around the globe. Some items are less expensive where you are, but some are higher. Maybe the people complaining about the shredded cheese are from the U.S. because in the U.S. cellulose, potato starch, and another anti-molding agent is added. There are many additives to American food that are banned elsewhere in the world. I wish they would ban those items here in the U.S. It is more expensive to buy food here when one tries to avoid all the artificial, unpronounceable ingredients.

I agree with you about the cellulose and other chemicals and additives in our food. I would love to see the government ban those ingredients so that our food isn't toxic. I have too many allergies and food intolerances, and I'm sure all this stuff in our food just adds to my ill health.

Great haul! Keep in mind France has different regulations than other countries. Some shredded cheese in Canada and the US do have anti caking agents in them. I do not think people need to be rude to be concerned. In the US or is commonplace for cheese packagers to add things like starches and other things to shredded cheese to keep it from clumping and stocking together. They also charge more per pound for grated here. I try to buy block cheese since it is pure but if the shredded cheese is on sale for the same or less than the block, then convenience wins. Certain grated cheese I always buy block or from a brand name that does not add things, especially my Parmesan, romano etc. They sell this cheese product in a can that is shelf stable for Parmesan that really is not anything close to it but people love it. Thanks for your hauls

Loved seeing the rain. No rain in my area for over two months. Like you, we are still experiencing elevated pricing, it is really quite amazing thinking back to earlier years. Adding the costs together (wide variability between those items that have gone up by 50%, 100%, 150%, individually), the total cost for the same bag of items is about double, from about 18 months ago. * I realized watching this video, perhaps I, too, should switch to frozen veggies for some dishes, as space permits in the fridge freezer,. I suspect I could save about $15 a month, going to frozen veggies. I'm going to experiment and see if that works for me. I'll have to adjust my cooking times. * I dilute my dish liquid for the sink, and I use a spray bottle for washing just a few dishes or to give a stubborn food container "a little extra help," if the dishwater is not quite doing the job. I truly love the quart spray bottle, which I fill with 2" of dish liquid/remainder water. I didn't think of this idea, but it has been incredibly useful and economical in our house. * I use homemade dry laundry detergent, which only requires about 1 tablespoon of dry laundry detergent for a full load. The spray bottle of dish detergent has proven to be a great spot lifter (Dawn). Making the dry laundry detergent reduces container waste; one batch will last more than 6 months. * Why it matters. All of these little things added together have really helped our finances from being overcome by the price hikes. * Thanks for all of the inspiration, hands-on training of how to create a good life in a frugal and satisfying way. In hard times people have to have little joys and things to look forward to, if they are to keep from throwing up their hands and quitting when in a tight corner. Your videos are helping many people who will never leave a comment, but do come, watch, make changes, and are able to pay bills and keep food in the house, when without your help, they would have fared far worse, and possibly crashed and burned financially. It is happening all around us, and it is quite frightening to see how many people are in severe need. * May the blessings you send out, return to you ten-fold, Jane and Mike.

A fantastic video. And yes shopping in store full of tourists is very exhausting. The folks from out of town aren't always as cordial as we usually run into. It makes us hope that winter comes sooner, so they will all return to their lives, downstate. Your cheese prices are high, but I buy large blocks of cheese from Costco, and get it for under $3 a pound. And butter here is $4 a pound, but I wait until it's between$2.00 -$2.50 before I buy it. Then I put 20 pounds in my freezer. Your cleaning supplies are significantly cheaper than ours, like 50-70% less.

Hello Jane, Great video as usual. I think that, from time to time, it would be helpful for you to remind your American viewers that your prices are for a kilo of items because my fellow Americans will automatically assume everything is priced for pounds (lbs), when of course 1kilo = 2.2lbs. Your tomatoes deal is amazing, you paid $5.8 for 7.2lbs of fresh tomatoes!!!

I am happy to share this beautiful land with them for their precious break away from the cities ( and welcome the incomme to the area) but i do wish that they would show some manners and not treat the locals as stupid servants. Good manners cost nothing. Those of us that live here have to get on with our daily lives and have to plan around the influx ( such as using back roads to get from A to B). Prices of petrol and food go up for us at these times too. So a few manners would be nice ( obviously this doesnt apply to all visitors).

Here's a kitchen hack for you...if you freeze the tomatoes and then when ready to can them, thaw them ,the skins will slip right off and you won't have to keep a pot of boiling water on the stove boiling forever ,getting them peeled. Then you only have to run the gas or electric going only long enough for the actual waterbath . And if you heat them in the crock pot then pack them in the jars, it saves even more gas, because the tomatoes are already hot and the water bath won't take as long to start boiling.

Thanks again Jane for your always eagerly watched videos. Yes, food in Australia is terribly expensive compared to your prices. The exception is chicken which would be cheaper than what you pay. I always bought free range plus organic vegetables and frozen berries, but no longer due to huge price increases. Mary

Thank you for sharing your experience with food costs. A comment about the tomatoes you use. Are you familiar with making fermented tomatoes? Fresh tomatoes smashed up in a jar and left to ferment for a week or so. Then add salt and jar. They taste like fresh tomatoes even when stored for months. Nearby Veggies (Portugal) made them on their channel and they are an inexpensive way to process tomatoes for use in the future. Perhaps something to try in the future as you have the time and tomatoes. Blessings.

I feel like your groceries are far cheaper than what we pay in CA, USA with the exception of avocados. Those we can get for $0.75 each. I also feel like the quality of your food is far better than what we have here. It is shocking what the US allows in their food. I was laughing about your comments about the grated cheese! Those must have been Americans that made those comments, as we do have extra junk in our shredded cheese as anti-caking ingredients. Not all brands, but many. I love how prices are written directly on each item. Here we have shelf tags and half the time the price on the shelf and the price they ring you up at checkup it different. Thank you for this video - very interesting! I'm always inspired by what you share.

I buy shredded cheese often, it is the same price as the bars. Sometimes, it does have potato starch or cellulose….these ingredients keep the cheese from clumping together. We live in the US…in dairy country!

Interesting with your grated cheese, in the US they use flour to keep it from sticking together which definitely gives it an off taste. I wish we had some of your French products for sale are in the u.s.!

Hi Jane! Love your food haul videos! I live in Connecticut in the US and our prices are high. Our chicken prices are a lot less. We can get whole chickens on sale for $.99 lb. They're not free range or organic, just the regular supermarket chickens. I only buy chopped meat (your minced beef) when on sale for $2.99 lb. Steak here is ridiculously expensive, around $13.99 lb. Too much for my budget. Our mayo is expensive at approx. $6.00 for 30 ounces. I buy what fits into our budget and I cook from scratch. To those people complaining about your chickens, I say you can only afford to buy what fits into your budget. If that doesn't include free range or organic, then that's it. Let's see what they can do on the money that we have budgeted!

Quite right on those Chickens Jane..we cant have it all, all the time. A roast Chicken dinner is delicious..great for sandwiches and chicken and veg soup afterwards...organic sounds lovely but 20 euro for a chicken is off the scale...

Hi, love your shopping hauls. Vegetables, cleaning items, mayonnaise is cheaper. Some of the meat is higher than here in northwest Florida. My first item to can was tomatoes. My friend did it the same way you do jam. Everything hot, jars in the oven, add lemon juice. In US that is called open kettle canning. She does jam the same way you do also. I don't use jam, but I do like pear butter. It is made like applesauce and is yummy with a grilled cheese sandwich, especially on rye bread.

Thanks, Jane and Mike for sharing your video, I really enjoy these. I found your sausage was on the pricey side, but everything else was really inexpensive compared to the USA. I agree with you on the shrinkflation. It's ridiculous what we pay for 12 ounces of frozen vegetables. Our local farmers market charges $8.99 for about 5 tomatoes 🍅, needless to say, I have not bought any this year. I need to catch up on your videos. I haven't really watched to much KZbin within the last months. Have a Great Day. ❤

Hi There Jane! I too also use spaghetti sauce for pizza. What's not to love? Good for you with the monthly haul. I love the forzen veggies for many reasons. Obviously, they are cheaper...but they are also apparently more nutritious in most cases. Win-win! Have a great week, Jane and Mike, and by all means please keep up the great work.

Wow you got a lot of food! I don't think that I would have enough space in my fridge to store it. I agree with you about how terrible shrinkflation is. I am constantly checking the package sizes. I've seen 12 oz bags of pasta the same price as a 16oz package. I've notice that too with frozen vegetables. I've seen this at Aldi's with their frozen vegetables. They sell 3/4 pound bag but it is in the same size bag as a one pound package. This this is frustrating to me especially when you trying to follow a recipe and you are shorted on ingredients. I even noticed that the size rolls of toilet paper have shrunk by about 1 inch. It takes alot longer to shop when you have to analyze all the packaging.

Hi Jane & Mike. Thank you for your wonderful informative videos. Iwatch each & every one of them. Here in Tampa Florida, Hellman's mayonnaise (887 ml) just hit $8.99. Yes, that's right. Almost nine dollars. The store brands are not far behind that. Shrinkflation is here in many products. Luckily, we have wonderful open air markets for fruits and vegetables that helps offset other costs. Meat, pou.try and fish are really high as well. Your recipes in addiing beans and veggies help defray the costs. Thank you again.

The meats and chickens look very good. The Palmolive dish soap is a good price, and I converted to see. In Brooklyn NY soaps and detergents are getting high in price. Once a month I get a big jug of either dish soaps, bleach or Windex window cleaner, items like that. More of a cost up front, but can last a very long time for me, probably near a year or even more.

Hello Jane. A really interesting video, and I feel your tiredness! Meat looks more expensive in France than here in Spain, but some other things like cleaning materials seem to be cheaper. However, some Spanish food is unaccountably expensive. People eat a lot of shellfish and don't seem to care what they pay for it. (I live in a little town near Cadiz). When I first arrived, I went to the butcher to get a boiling chicken, which he was glad to provide. My concept and his were quite different, though. I was buying an older bird, good for slow cooking but not tender enough to roast. He was selling a large, carefully nurtured mature chicken, very high in flavor. The price was 34 euros. Lesson learned. Nowadays, I stubbornly refuse to buy meat without a yellow sticker, but luckily it's easy to get if I pop in to the supermarket early. Usually I can stock up. By the way, I'd love to know more about your dogs. They look so sweet.

The good thing about other countries is the tax is already included in the price. Here in the US those prices will vary from state to state and cities since each can have their own sales tax. What you showed today if bought in California I would add at least 100-200 for the final sales price. For the people that complain about what you're buying they can keep moving. Everyone's budget is different as is their needs and wants. Organic isn't pesticide free and grass fed doesn't mean that they are fed a grass diet their entire cycle.
