Very nice job, you saved that vice from the scrap heap 👍

I love what you did with the woodwork on the faces by the way. Liked and subbed.

Along with this video (with his support idea along the bench for long wood) these 2 have given me enough ideas to fit my new (S/H) 52 1/2 e.

I've just managed to get 3 Record 52.5 E (made in England)vices that have never been used for £90!! I'm giving my dad one for Christmas and want to have one each end of my bench to hold planks. So excited!!

I have just got my hands on a mint 52.5" but didnt realise how huge it would be! Thanks for making the video, my bench is a little different but Im relieved to see that your lag bolts were up to the task

Great. Do yourself a favour and make a new bench. Go to Wickes, b and q etc and buy some 62 x 38m. or 88 x 38 mm CLS (Canadian Lumber Stock) and laminate (Glulam) the top and so on. Your enthusiasm is infectious. If you get stuck, contact me. Take care.

Ruined it when you painted it. Record vices should be 'Roundel Blue'.

Nice video and nice restoration but notice you didnt take it appart and grease all the parts. :) As the thing is like 50 years old plus they need grease.

all that effort to retain the pattina of the old and then that colour job. shame

53E front jaw and slides, 52 1/2 rear jaw/chassis. Interesting. I guess someone broke the rear part of the 53E hanging something heavy on it at some point and thought they'd try to salvage it with other leftovers!
@SamButement5 жыл бұрын
I never noticed that before. So should the front and back be the same width?
@fredio545 жыл бұрын
@@SamButement Yeah, as far as I know, that's correct. I've never seen one mismatched, and hadn't checked the centre to centre offset between my 52 1/2 and 53E to see if it matched, but apparently it does! The 53E has longer slides, but that's part of the front jaw, so aside from maybe mounting stiffness IF the back is bigger (didn't check) then I think it makes almost no difference at all with the bench acting as the rear face and over-width, so just enjoy your unique hybrid as is! :-D

@@fredio54 i see, i really got the 53E becuse of how far it can open. It should last me years and its come in handy with all the projects. I could do with getting another one as its often in use gluing something. .

Great vice . Terrible colour for a Record vice. Not very well clean up of the entire vice.

You should be locked up and the key 🔑 be thrown away for painting that vice
