Yo, I’m Christian and appreciated the genuine and respectful conversation. Let me see if I can briefly answer Rocco’s questions. Concerning the Hail Mary Rosary prayers, I’m not Catholic so I don’t have the best understanding of it. From conversations with friends, it comes from a place of respect and trying to get in the zone, but from my perspective, I see it more as a misguided 13th-century tradition. Jesus specifically says don’t pray overly long and repetitive prayers that lose their meaning with babble. He called out people that were sticklers of specific rules, that they missed the heart and purpose of them. I’d love to hear from someone more informed on how Catholicism addresses those things because I’m not hating. With your questions about prayer, thankfulness, and jokes, the Bible places a big emphasis that not only do our hearts affect what we say, but what we say affects our hearts. It’s a two-way street. The tongue can be the rudder to the whole body. So it’s important to speak things out loud and be careful what you speak. It’s like writing out your thoughts, it becomes a lot more clear and solidified when you do it. Or if you only crack jokes about someone that can start to affect how you truly think about him.

It started in 2011 when Rocco was messing with onscreen graphics during an aftershow that just happened to be on MLK day, the program glitched and left everything up with Christmas music, so they left it going for a few days. Next year, they did the same thing but ran it the whole week. It became a tradition after that.

I think the repetition of prayers and the emphasis on "saying grace the proper way" is about putting gratefulness to the forefront of your mind, and about having a collective moment of gratefulness with the people close to you. I think the repetition of prayers with the rosary is about trying to make you focus more on the words (since those prayers are supposed to be said countless times though someone's life). And then having to say grace properly is probably a matter of respect for your family more than about respecting God; if you say "rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub" and sincerely mean it, then I'm sure that's fine for God.
