Jirard is such a cool and interesting dude! Really love hearing about the behind the scenes stuff about G4 and just being on youtube for so long. I especially liked the really clear rebuttal that it wasn't the 'wokeness' that was the problem with G4, and that management/investors were always the issue. People want so badly to blame it on Frosk or whatever, but like, it was never that simple. In fact, I can't get Derrick's quote out of my mind: "Nostalgia is a bitch... I can't compete with your memories."

I feel like that's always the case for these kinds of things. We think it's because of some epic meltdown that causes the collapse or major incident when the real cause for most thing is way more boring and mundane. Suits and ties that have no idea what they're doing.

I have to echo that sentiment that I’m glad Jirard is so open, but also taking every chance he’s asked about G4 to state that it wasn’t the “woke” argument that killed them. They had a game show where Twitch streamers were the contestants and asked for like $30k an appearance, the company spent funds wildly and didn’t know how to manage it as a streaming AND TV platform, and so much more. “Please stop wishing death on a woman and let’s not bully others” isn’t a “network undoing catastrophe” many Twitter trolls made it out to be. They didn’t even listen to what was said, or the words before and after that whole “rant.” It was gross how angry people got, even profiting off of the sentiment that anti-bullying stances were somehow cataclysmic and they had to dunk on this host/reinvigorate the trolls.

I was willing to give the reboot g4 a chance. But bottom line it's original programming still had little to do with video games, like how the original G4 died.
