NYC Buses (1992)

By the time 1992 rolled around, the MTA's fleet was either Blitz Fishbowl's or RTS'. As the MTA had retired the non-Blitz Fishbowl's in 1992. 1992 happens to be the most recent year where there weren't any bus orders. Since 1993, the MTA has had at least one order with the corresponding model year. The Blitz Fishbowl's would last another two years in Manhattan as most of them were gone from Manhattan by the end of 1994. Yes, I do remember when Hudson Pier had them in the early-90's.

@@kalelc1996 That would be correct. From a list of retired buses with their retirement years, the last of the Flxible's (1977 53102-8-1) were retired in 1995. By the time of the 1987 and 1990-1991 TMC-RTS entered service, they began retiring buses built in the 1970's. With the 1993-1995 Orion V's and 1993-1994 TMC-RTS', it was enough to phase out all of the remaining buses built in the 1970's, leaving the 1981 GMC-RTS' as the oldest fleet. If what I said is inaccurate, let me know.

When did the Flexible New Looks retire? I never seem to get an exact date for those. I just assumed the 1993 Orion 5.501 Diesels and 1993 TMC RTS 06s killed them off, but not sure. I think the MSBA units were killed off by the Orion 5s as well.

November 16th, 1992 marked my 11th birthday. Having been born and raised in The Bronx, I'm very familiar with the buses AND city captured on this video! Having experienced my first full decade as a New Yorker, it saddens me to watch this and think how completely different NYC is now. For my 10th birthday the previous year, my father took me to the South Tower of the World Trade Center. I'll always have great memories of that childhood. And getting to spend my entire teenage years in a pre-9/11 NYC!❤

Wow!! This was amazing, we already know how much of a RTS fan you are( lol), but it was really cool seeing some GM and Flixble new looks! Especially for Liberty Lines!! I never know they had flixble new looks in there fleet back in the day!!

This time was about the peak of dominance of the RTS in the NYCTA fleet. The 8000s got rid of the 1972-73 6000s, any remaining remembered 5305s, and the 1977 Flxibles. The Blitzes were on the endangered species list by this time and would be retired or sent to Long Island shortly. Of course someone can correct me if I’m wrong. 😅

I miss everything from back then. No bike lanes all street are open different variety cars on the road not trucks and SUVs and those beautiful buses I truly miss compared to the small cramped ones we have now. I miss the old fun NYC. When we had characteristics.

Hey Kal el I Have A Question Do You Know The Liberty Lines AKA Bee Line System Because I’m Pretty Sure You Dont Like The Orion 7 Next Gens But In Westchester County They Have Hybrid Buses That Are Also From 2009 But A Different Company Called NABI Or North America Bus Industries They Are Not Even Bad Busses Even So They Range To Complete The 200 Series From 205-299 201-204 are Orion 7 Hybrid From 2006 205 Is The First NABI Ever Built And They Still Have Life In Them Keep In Mind That 205-225 Are Weekday Only Units And They Were Delivered To Valhalla Depot While 226-299 Were Delivered To Yonkers Depot And They Send Some During Weekends I Have A Picture Of 206 And Speaking Of That Unit 206 Is The Only Unit That Has One Side Black And One Side White And Their Power Train Is That These Busses Signify Of The Cummins ISB Engine With The Allison HP 40 Transmission And There’s Only One Thing I Can’t Understand Is That These Busses Have Tend To Have A Fan Belt Screech Sometimes And They Are Loud When They Do That So That’s One Downside And Don’t Forget About The Orion 5 Diesels They Are Retired But Here’s One Thing That Will Be The True Opportunity They Are Being Sold Instead Of Scrapped
