Megaboom Battery Replacement + Reset and it charges again :)

This video was inspired by video made by HCDigital Art
The reason I decided to replace battery was a fact that my Megaboom was not able to be charged. Led icon was not blnking durring connection of micro usb cable.
I replaced battery and still Megaboom was not able to be charged. Both speaker and app on IOs indicated that there is 40% charge.
I went trhough few soft downgrades and upgrades and resets and somehow Magaboom works again.
Its difficult to say what helped but I recomend to
1. Replace battery
2. Perform reset
3. Perform downgrade of soft/firmware (old software you can find on internet)
4. Ugrade of firmware via IOS app
UPADTE:
I noticed that sometimes extra step is needed
On powered device click PLUS, MINUS & BT button
Magaboom works great for me again :)

Thanks for the very useful video! Just some notes from my successful attempt: The top cover doesn't appear to have the usual super fragile plastic tabs that you need to depress and always break off anyway in order to open it. Just use a wide but thin screwdriver or similar implement, insert it between the "fabric" and the rubber lid, and when you push and poke you'll find a gap between the hidden hard plastic part of the lid and the speaker body. Don't pry on just the rubber edge, that won't accomplish anything. Gradually work your way around that gap, prying the lid increasingly open, and eventually it'll come open with a scary click. Don't worry, there are none of those fragile tabs we're otherwise used to breaking. If you open the lid as much as Prodish did in the video, you'll risk overstretching and snapping the decorative rubber spine (with the volume buttons). At least on my old speaker, the rubber spine was rather stiff and brittle (from ageing?), and it partially cracked from just opening the lid like max 45 degrees. Make sure the silicone looking goop on the left and right protruding parts of the PCB isn't stuck/glued to the fabric before you start prying the PCB out. Those protrusions easily break off, and then you'll have to either buy a new speaker or find a spare PCB. For me, it was enough to carefully pry on the blobs of goop (avoiding to pry on the protruding PCB parts) and I could see it come loose from the fabric. Since I didn't want to completely break the spine and thus didn't open the lid fully, there was no room to insert the new battery already mounted to the PCB connector. Instead I inserted the battery, but not all the way in, in its hole. The battery's connector was then left visible to align with the PCB connector pins before fully pushing everything together again. Before reassembly, wipe the gasket and its opposing contact surfaces on the lid and the speaker body clean for better waterproofing, and try to get loose crap like hardened silicone goop out of the speaker to avoid unwanted noises. And I take no responsibility, it's all on your own risk, yada yada.

I have been wrestling with a non charging UE Megaboom for 2 years. Finally fixed it!! The charger they give you is too short and doesn't make proper contact. Trim back the surround a couple of millimetres with a scalpel. Fixed!!!!

Great video man, yep I just saw this video...glad I was of help with this. Your on the right track, the issue was with a software update, which was causing the speaker to sound horrible. So other than replacing the battery, you needed to also go back to an earlier version of the software. Good job man.... HCDigital Art

I finally got it open the way you did, but I used some old 18650 batteries I had laying around that cost about $2 each. Speaker works fine now and only cost $4 to fix. Original batteries were still good, they were down to 2.75 volts but they charged up again.

I don't know if mine is too old, but I tried to lift the lid just like in the video and ended up breaking the sides. n.n' (be careful). Also, the problem with mine is that when I plug the charger the light blinks three times and then it dies. Anyone with the same problem?

is my megaboom LE defective? i bought it in 2018 and haven't used it in forever. just took it out again and I noticed that the audio only comes from the top of the speaker where the + and - buttons are. is there supposed to be sound coming out from the bottom of the device where the charger area is?

mine started to slowly have shorter battery life and eventually would never turn on. even after charging and waiting for it to show fully charged. taking it off the charger it wont turn on but when plugged in it turn its self on automatically. i replaced the battery and same issue. i tested both of the batteries and they cam back as a good voltage still. so what would cause it to only work when plugged in even with a new battery?

My Megaboom still works and charges, however the battery life is appalling. Logitech quote 15-20 hours, I'm lucky if I get 1.5-2 hours. Not sure whether to have a crack at replacing the battery and risk it not working entirely, or just carry on with the dismal battery life

They get those numbers from most likely playing music on its lowest volume which consumes the least power. I get maybe 3-4 hours playing music with its highest volume.

I tried connecting the power for a few seconds and then unplugging and repeat for 20-30 times it will fix. I tried this and it worked once but now that doesn't work either. mine was doing that too. I finally fixed it by removing the battery, cleaning the pins, and then reseating it all firmly. Now it chages properly with the slow, pulsing charge.

Your connection to the battery might be a bit too loose. Does it stop doing it when you put a heavy weight on the lid or push really tight?

For waterproofing electronics, most pros (and DIY like myself) use B-7000 glue, pretty easy to find on Amazon. I took apart and fixed my S20's cracked camera lense and put it back together with B-7000 and it is still waterproof.

Per the company, there is most likely a simpler solution. I unfortunately started pulling mine apart to see how to get at the battery and then suddenly it started charging again after many charging tries. Confirmed by the company's instructions below. Contact them for the full PDF of tips and tricks.... My MEGABOOM no longer charges, how do I fix it? Your MEGABOOM can sometimes get into a state where it doesn’t charge. To get your MEGABOOM back to a normal charging state, do the following: 1. Connect your speaker to the charger and leave it connected for a few seconds. 2. If the charge LED fails to pulse continuously, disconnect the cable from your speaker, then reconnect it, and leave it connected for a few seconds. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until your speaker gets to a normal charge cycle - the LED should continue to pulse. (This could take up to 25-30 times.) 4. Once your speaker gets to a point where it charges normally, continue to charge it until the battery is at 100%. Be sure to update the firmware on the speaker so that the issue does not re-occur. To update your MEGABOOM software: 1. Download the latest app for your speaker. 2. Connect your speaker to your smartphone and open the app. 3. Tap More, then tap the update prompt. (I think if the latest update is already installed, there is no "More" option. I didn't find it or any indication a firmware update was available to install on the speaker.) Perform a Factory Reset: Press the Volume “-” and Power buttons simultaneously and hold for 10 to 15 seconds. You’ll hear a tone that indicates the reset was done and your speaker then should turn off. This reset will bring your speaker back to factory settings. Turn your speaker back on using the Power button. The speaker will be in Bluetooth discovery/pairing mode. After you have performed the Factory Reset, please charge your speaker overnight (5+ hours) to recalibrate the battery. All the above worked great for me. Mine took about 3 years before it took a shit and lasted only a few minutes on a full charge. They loose about 25% of its original charge every year you use the device.

I tried all the software updates including old versions plus all the resets, then swapping out the usb charger and lead, but it still wasn't charging (no charge light) so I followed your video just to reseat the battery and pcb and voila it started charging. If You replaced battery the last thing You can do is downgrade soft, upgrade again and repeat until it will work. It worked for me. Also few restets like on the movie. Sorry but that like that. Reapet all of it and it will start to work. I hope.

Normally Megaboom is updated by phone app but as well You kind fins on internet .exe file with firmware update. I found 2 old one and I "downgraded" and upgrades soft few times until it started to work. Try to find those files on web. Still people share those files in local google drives or dropboxes

These ue megaboom speakers are such a dumb design. They need to have power to allow you to charge them. So if you dont charge frequently they qill self terminate
