So CapG PKMN TCG veteran here. Bro was doing “The gesture” Not rolling dice. Every effect in the card game thats related to chance is based on coin flips, the only time dice are involved are if there is a card that has dice on it (not effect) or the specialty dice used to represent damage counters Edit: I forgot to mention the use of dice being a substitute in coin flips. Odds and evens for heads and tails

As a pkmn judge he admitted to another player it was not a "dice rolling" jesture. As far as the penalty the followed the tournament rules down to a T. The only part that's not part of the unsprting conduct severe penalty match loss is where the losing player advances in place of the person receiving the penalty. That should have only happened if he was DQ'D in the single elimination top cut. He got he was so heavily punished becaise there were very young kids in attendace, the pokemon tcg has 3 age divisions Junior ages 12 and under, Senior ages 13-15, and Master ages 16 and over.

Adults typically have impulse control. What might be edgy on stream comes off as brainrot irl and might get you in trouble. Even major sports have penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. I know it's a tall order to ask teens to 20 somethings to think things through, but if not, it's a lesson. Be fortunate you can learn by example instead of BEING the example.

Come on Cap don't spread misinformation, it's been months since Sam's YCS. He had already received a warning, he said "god damn" and got informed it's a swear word but he started repeating it like a child to the point Pak is seen on stream turning to him and saying "hey fam are you trolling?" but still this wasn't the reason for the game loss. Before the finals started when they introduced the teams, Sam had to say "Let's f*cking go!!!" leading to a game loss in the very next game. His team was steamrolled anyway so in the end it didn't matter. Meanwhile, in the Pokemon case, they handled this as if the player got DQ'ed for severe Unsportsmanlike conduct thus advancing the opponent. But that would mean the DQed player wouldn't receive ANY PRIZES, so instead of having top 4 being a single match and the Robb's opponent advancing straight to the finals via a match loss, they eliminated Robb for the severity of their action while still giving them top 8 cash prize as the middle ground. This way, Robb didn't fully rob themselves of prizes and Pokemon TCG had 2 proper semifinal matches to show.

Sorry Cap, but this is a bit of an L take from you. At the end of the day, this isn't MTG or F&B, games where the target audience is more mature and open to such gestures or behavior. Games like Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Lorcana, and so on are all marketed as being accessible to children and family friendly. A gesture meaning, "This was so easy, it's like jerking off/playing with myself" is rude and derogatory. Is it a severe punishment? Yes, I can agree with the notion that it is very severe. However, a lesson was sent and everybody knows not to do it again, whether they were there or not, and I think that's what more games should do. The rules don't mean much if they aren't going to be enforced.

Should definitely focus on YGO fam. You missed a few things in a video much after the events. He admitted to another player it was a jerking motion. He made the motion for this match, which means the loss was applied to that match. Sucks for him, but Pokemon streams to thousands of kids and has a kids division in all of their tournaments. Guy should have known better. What's even crazier is you used Andrew's clip from his stream where he revealed that it was admitted by Ian as a jerking motion, so either you knew this information and left it out or didn't research enough.

Despite that, knowing full well the camera was on him, he violated the rules he agreed to. 100% deserved DQ. Yeah, yugioh players like to joke about the game being for "literal children" despite having a few minor underage audience...but for Pokemon that is *literally* true. The difference between this and the Team Samurai incident, is that, let's be honest, when was the last time you saw kids in a YCS? They are as rare as a shiny Pokémon, and little to no kids are going to watch a YCS stream, so Sam's case was a little bit unfair. Honestly I don’t think this was the judges fault because if a tournament has specific rules anyone who violates them gets taken out that’s just how it works so if yugioh can enforce a rule about hygiene and just straight boot you out of the game if you start smelling to much then Pokemon basically disqualifying someone for jerkying it off to a whole crowd of adults and children and not to mention any kids at home seeing this behavior and thinking oh he did it why so I can too is not only unsportsmanlike conduct it’s just straight disrespectful to the game itself. Team Sam took the lose because he broke a rule during a tournament not a locals match not a friendly match a tournament match that was being live streamed none the less. At the end of the day my point is you can’t get mad when you clearly broke the rules and you get punished for it.

As someone who was there competing in the TCG this was 100% done as a BM and Ian has even said that. It was justified what pokemon did, especially with it being at the world championships the literal biggest event of the year

In the UK that hand gesture means "Wanker" which is an insulting and derogatory term. So yeah I can understand getting a penalty because he did it live on stream. Not very PG friendly for a PG company.

So Cap the common consensus is that dude being dqed was the right move. Its the fact the instead if having his opponent win the round in top 4 and changing the result of the previous match that people are upset about. The integrity of the tournament of the tournament git thrown out the window when people saw him beat the other guy 2-0 and he stilo gets awarded the win. The guy he beat also went on to win worlds but theirs always gonna have an asterisk at the end of that because of how the judges fumbled the admission of the penalty

What they did was uphold the integrity of the company over the integrity of the game. For a company like Pokemon or Nintendo this makes sense that it would happen and that they would do it. For someone who is a TCG player I understand upholding the rules of the game / the integrity of the game is the most important thing because that's what we care about. But for making sure they keep a welcoming and inclusive family friendly playing environment is a lot more important. And I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing.

if he double handed it, i might've dismissed it as the dude being hyped for winning; but the face plus gesture read as crude. with how strict the pokemon tcg is, i'm not surprised by the result, especially with other commenters noting how they were warned about gestures.

If this were anything but Pokemon, a game literal elementary school children play, and literally anything but a televised top 8 match, he probably would have had less/no penalty. But it wasn't. Rules like this exist for a reason. Does it suck? Yes. Was the consequence fair? Debatable. But was it understandable, and make sense for a multi-billion dollar co.pany heading one of the biggest media franchises on earth marketed specifically to small children? Yeah. Absolutely.

nah, no breaks, no warnings, why? because he agreed to the terms and conditions before he entered the tournament, that was everyone's warning. you don't call your Op a wanker on stream after winning, it's that simple, what he should have done is shake his hand and talk smack with his mates after he was off the top table, on live-stream. The terms say you mustn't act in a certain way, if you do then you will lose the match or round, i would say the DQ is deserved especially if you're in top cut as it shows that this will not be tolerated and if you break ToS then you can lose it all, lets see how many players will do it during the next major event, if it's none then guess what, they made their point and people have learnt to read the ToS, and event guidelines. The fact the other player went on to win isn't an issue and actually drives the point home to me, it's saying look this guy won because the player who should have won can't read a simple guideline and decided to push his luck, if you don't want it to happen again, follow the ToS and tournament guidelines and ensure whoever you go with is aware of them as well. I thought this would about the Trans nervous laughter and vile judge who DQ'd the kid, as that was a issue and the judge and head judge should have been removed from all future events for not checking the situation properly and due to their own emotional/political bias'. now if the kid was being transphobic that's a different issue but he wasn't, the judge just took a normal situational response badly and decided to be a d*ck.

Something tells me that the player who initially lost might’ve had a friend who’s a high ranking judge on staff there. A DQ and match loss for top 4 would’ve sufficed there imo. But getting the result reversed AND THEN wind up winning Worlds off of it? Idk….seems fishy. Though my tin foil hat might be a bit tight there

The gesture is VERY inappropriate especially with a mainly kids trading card game and Pokemon uploaded it to their MAIN CHANNEL so why didn't Pokemon remove the video? Makes you wonder doesn't it? Of course Pokemon did support the corrupt judges who humiliated Makani Tran over pronouns...so this doesn't shock me

@ MEGA CAPITALG iam torn on this one on firstly that gesture especially in my school days was known as calling someone a WANKER although it could mean something else however i do see the reason they disqualified him yet they should've done it just after he did maybe 5 minutes it looked like ian robb was arrogantly disrespecting his opponent used a stun build and i know from personal experience in yu gi oh how powerful a stun deck can be, your opponent cannot play the game essentially if you cannot respect your opponent then u should be disqualified when your card game has a reputation to stand by it should be zero tolerance.
@LuisRamirez-ChaosWolf
@LuisRamirez-ChaosWolf 4 ай бұрын
Same here I totally disagree with you on this one….the gesture might have not been intended in the way it was made or so they say, but the fact he is a pro player and knows how it could have been misinterpreted was avoidable… And they treated him well, and allowed him to keep his placing and prizes, cause it could had easily been a dq….a game loss was awarded after the game ended giving the win to the other player, but they did that way so Robb who did the gesture wouldn’t lose on his prizing cause in Pokemon thats what dq gets you. There is hardly any drama on Pokemon tournaments compared to the toxicity and mismanagement of yugioh….Ive played ygo for over 20 years competitively since day one, Pokemon the same and among all tcgs Pokemon is the most friendly and drama free
