Con trades are super hard to pull off. It's much easier outside of that environment. This was a great video. Accurate depiction of how things usually go.

I know what the seller is saying about "presentation" books being overpriced, but that's a double-edged sword. If I see a book or two that's outrageous at a booth, *especially* if that book drew me to that booth, I keep walking and don't even look at their other stuff, as I assume they're out of their minds on everything else. It's their loss also, as I'm a serious buyer and I would venture a guess I'm not the only person that thinks that way. 🤷♂ But anyway...great sequence of videos, and I'm glad you two had a great time!
@kennethturner8290 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have to agree. Very often I am either likely to buy or not to buy from a particular seller. If I decide to buy one book I am very likely going to buy multiple books from that seller. If I cannot get the book I want then I am likely going to just move on.
@RockVideos21 Жыл бұрын
I'm the same way. I might know what the price of a key is because I've been looking at sales and tracking it so if that key is their "presentation" book and it's priced super high I'm not going to spend my time looking at a bunch of other keys to see if they're all priced high or not

I was very young when I realized that dealers don't care about your books unless they are rare/desirable and they can make money. That means often not being fair (I don't blame them as its their source of income). I did kind of cringe when you tried to offer your mid grade/low grade slabbed books for a pre-code horror book (which are very rare). Reality is, you would have to give up all of those slabs plus substantial cash for a book like that. It's just a learning game, and you need to think about it as a business. Great video guys!

I’ve always loved the EC comics but never bought one throughout my young collecting years, that is until about 10 years ago, when I started to purchase them. I currently own ten EC comics from the Golden age, all raw copies. Love the golden age horror. I think every collector should have some golden age in their collection.

A con is not the place to sell or trade books to dealers. Unless they can get your books for next to nothing, they are there to sell, not buy. They have time and money invested in their booth and they don’t want money going out, they want it coming in. Also, why would anyone want to lug their books around the convention floor all day on the chance someone might be interested. Best to take a photo of your books on your phone and show that to dealers to gauge their interest (or more likely, their lack thereof).

My first Comicon in Portland was difficult. I brought Thor 337 9.6 and X-Men annual 14 9.8 both graded CGC to potentially trade and couldnt find any biters. Albeit, there was very minor issues during encapsulation yet, easily rectified given a little money and investment. I was willing to come way down in value for a straight across trade. It was also the worst time as the market was still way up and slowly transitioning out of covid lockdowns. I just wanted a 9.8 Wolverine 1 vol. 2. My total trade value was $550 even though my purchase total was around $800. That Wolverine book at the time was $450 and I was willing to move forward with that and still no trade? I would have taken a pretty big loss at the time. Now I see that book selling for less but, I still have these graded books hoping for a future trade. Maybe this year or the next. Cons are hard for trading, hopefully get easier.

Also when it comes to dealers they are always going to want the one up on a trade never expect it to be a fair deal that's why you see online all the time someone willing to do a trade is asking for the trade price in comics and some more. Personally I'm not about to take a loss while someone else gets more for it.

Idk man I think some of these con sellers need to get with the times. Marking their prices up just way too much its a bit insulting personally. I'm sure some of these sales tactics worked back when ebay, go-collect, gpa etc etc didnt exist

Trading is not what dealers want, they want to sell, and I can understand that. The guy said it perfectly, "people want to trade some medium grade semi-keys for a grail" Great that you showed this on camera. But I fail to see (from a collector standpoint) the attraction of the golden age books. The covers may be nice, but the interior art is often lousy. Beside that, I think you should find your own niche as a channel and as a dealer, and concentrate on that. Don't try to do all at the same time, that will not work. And while I am giving advice (you can ignore it if you want :)), give Sarah a more prominent role in your videos. She is enthousiastic, very pretty, smart, loves great artwork (Vampirella!) and this will boost your channel enormously. That is a unique selling point. I love what you two are doing, keep on the good work!

I personally don't send in books to be graded unless I can make 5 times what I have into the book plus pressing grading shipping fees. I don't even think you could get case cost on those books, from a dealer. It's a buyers market right now and dealers will only buy at a percentage of what books are actually selling for. They didn't want to say hey I can't even give you case cost. Those books would probably sell best off eBay starting at a penny auction. I think that dealer also was putting eye candy from there personal collection with the crap they want to sale, and put ridiculous over priced prices on the eye candy books because they really aren't going to sale them. And you found some eye candy from there wall that there not going to part with unless they get way over market value for it.
