Howdy, Howdy, HOWDY! So I'm answering comments after a bit of an unexpected break on here. You all are so incredible and it's a joy to read and respond to all these kind and supportive words while I am still amazingly glad people take the time to watch (hopefully because they are entertained). That said, let's do a #drumcover of some #Megadeth honoring the late Nick Menza. To make up for a few weeks off of here, I've got two coming this week. Lucretia is the first. I did listen to #davemustaine and the latest Megadeth tunes but there wasn't enough time to properly learn them. Also, I try to always make it clear that when I decide on a song, I do not listen to other covers. But, once it's done - I will see who all has one it. I was not surprised to see both Edo Salda ( / edosaladrummer ) and my boy Nabil have properly covered this sum bitch. I hold both in amazingly high regard. I've had the pleasure to get to know Nabil (channel is / nabilkarsheh ) and hope I might get to communicate with Edo along the way. He's an incredible drummer and he and I like a LOT of the same tunes.
Appreciate you all and thank you so much for being kind enough to watch! As far as what has been on the news relative to Kentucky - the flooding happened about 45 miles East of my home town. It is extremely real, it is devastating and any and all donations are welcome. I have donated and will go shovel mud on short notice if we find that we can and that it will help our brothers and sisters of Kentucky. You can donate to Red Cross or the Eastern, KY flood relief fund 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤

Dude, I love the way you went at this. The POV angle from where you sat and you were throwing in some bad ass stuff Nabil! Speaking of Nick, I'm gonna reach out to a buddy who is mixing the songs for that upcoming (overdue) documentary. I doubt he can share anything but after it's released, I'll see if I can get me and you some cuts we've never heard before. Buddy's name is Richard Easterling. Hell of an engineer dude.

So glad to hear you guys are above the flooding area. What a devastating mess. On a positive note... what epic drumming skills on this one! I've always loved this era of Megadeth with Nick Menza. He never went overboard with the double kick but I liked how he would sneak it in there tastefully from time to time. You slay this song better than the original dude! ...and nice Betty Boop kick head!
@TreyBDrums

The ol' Boop is getting some love and I dig it dude!!! Yeah man, I sure appreciate your kindness. This particular deal was pretty close to my actual home. I really do mean it when I tell you that I sincerely am grateful for the concern. Back to the drums - ME TOO on this era dude!!! Menza was a guy I aspired to emulate if that makes sense. I've thought and thought and honestly I had very few drum heroes / people I wanted to be exactly like. For a minute, the Tommy Lee thing clicked then the next minute it was Randy Castillo then Matt Cameron, then Vinnie Pau, then the Rev even though he isn't represented on here.........it's been a moving target. Thank you buddy. Your support means so damn much 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@TreyBDrums Those are all great players. Matt Cameron is a monster. I'm always impressed by that guy's attention to breathing room between the back beats and how good his odd time grooves flow. This one and Countdown both just ripped my head off back in the day (and still do). But I also still dig the hell out of Peace Sells. Dude, I wasn't built for too many stick tricks. That catch & flip move didn't work a lot more than it did. Obviously I used the takes where I landed but I've got a solid 5-6 misses on the cutting room floor LOL! The beginning - it's all good to miss there but when I tried to throw it in a bit later, that had the potential to wipe out the take (and it did just that the first time I tried it at that point in the song 🤣🤣🤣). @TreyBDrums 2 жыл бұрын
Yo Todd! Menza really had a unique style to me. I have had that discussion with other drummers and since I can't do a good job of explaining what I hear when I hear him play, I fall back on either "groove" or just talking about how he understood placement and playing for the song.. If that dude put something in a track, it had a purpose. And he was phenomenal on that tight / sync up stuff. Sure wish he was still around doing what he did best. Appreciate ya!!!

@@TreyBDrums Could well have been his Jazz background as a kid, he had access to the best drummers of the genre as a kid thanks to his father Don's connections with those people; Nick got lessons from Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson & others, then as he grew up he was playing to rock records like a madman, so a lot of those influences seeped into his playing. I know this stuff from reading the "Megalife" book, I'm still looking for another copy (my old one fell apart).

No matter what you hear, you are never smoking too much bud 😅😅😅 (Unless you hear a voice that says "Go into Walmart naked, put on one of their vests and greet people - THEN, double check yourself). I'm a huge Menza fan too dude. He is gone way to damn soon. The Big 4 all have the commonality of having drummers with real individual styles. To me, Menza did his own thing in that pack. In now way disrespect Tray but watching the pure talent, force, knowledge, and complete control of your kit to these old tunes makes me believe that at some point you were on your way with a band way back when. I may be wrong but if i am i have to applaud you for treating us to to exactly what it took to pull off these songs from a drumming standpoint. The physical exertion that our former drummer idols endured for a 90 minute set is nothing less that amazing and watching you gives us all a glimpse of the dedication, motivation, skill and pure athleticism it takes to be a metal drummer… Kudos and bravo to you sir, and if back in the day your band didn’t make it… Fuck the past!!! You still rock!!!

Zero disrespect felt my friend! I'm well into my 40s and be happy to shed some light on that. I wasn't ever in any particular band on a fast track but I was touring with mid level acts at an early age (cover - tributes, etc). But those acts still played the larger venues so it was important as f*ck to me to put forth effort. And even on MANY nights where there would be 10-15 people, I'd still try to play hard. I am completely guilty of having some nights of playing to 10 people and I played like there were 10 people LOL! But I did try to avoid that as much as possible. I kept touring for a long ass time and there's just something you take with you after doing that. Once a person has honestly had to play to feed themselves, I really do think their outlook changes (even if the pay is very small as mine was). So I just appreciate that you are so kind as to watch and to think things like that. I promise you that I continue to put forth effort today and if I can't ever do that, I'm done. I'll look back and try to smile and move on. And this tune - think about Mikkey Dee bro. That dude is as good today as he's ever been and he's well into his 60s. I think things like that give drummers a lot of hope if we keep playing, keep trying and take care of ourselves (within reason LOL!!!!)

😂😂😂😂 Alright so that's a new one for me! I told somebody in here that I still remember seeing them and seeing Menza's drum riser. Back then - pre Internet ' cause I'm old - I had to go buy magazines and ask anybody I knew or anybody I met, who did his riser. I was eventually informed that he used a Greg Voelker riser / rack and I called Greg Voelker's company myself. I bought a custom Voelker rack with money I saved from Radio Shack, working drive thru lines and by the time I found out what to buy, I had been gigging for a little bit. Like maybe a summer and a few months. The Voelker rack I bought was supposed to have been one of Menzas extras. I still question that but I'll post a pic of the old rack when I can get a pic myself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I loved that thing Rob.

Well buddy, that comment is one that I'm going to absolutely remember. I've had a hard time telling others what I'm going for and damn if you didn't explain it. Lee / Rose / Castillo / Sean Kinney and Vinnie Paul are players that just more or less stamped me with the influence they had. But none were guys I tried to be exactly like so if the content on here emulates a combo of those vibes while playing a variety of other tunes - you just helped me understand what the hell the point of all these covers are 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

BUT - I found the footage of me not landing it and I've got to put that together dude HAHA!!!!!!!!! See, on here there are so many drummers that do insane stick tricks, I apply perspective and before I get too excited I just remember that my the same time I did that trick, some other drummer flipped their stick against a wall / backwards / rotated it counter clockwise / had a dog fetch it and bring it back / hit a cymbal on time 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yo Igor!!! The ol' 5000's are my favs to this day. The hat just become whatever it is LOL!!! I want to think I started playing it higher because it helped with some stick trick type stuff I was trying way, way, way back. Then I remember various studios being excited that I played and left a fair amount of room between the hats and the snare (also way, way back). But it's just personal preference man. Seat stays as low as possible, try to keep toms / cymbals flat and I try to make contact on every drum with the rim involved. Helps to just bring out the body of the drums to my ear - and my ears are pretty broken in at this point HAHA!! Appreciate you and have an awesome night!!
