Dave Mustaine is the King of Thrash. He’s also a fucking genius. Megadeth, seems like a rather childish and immature name , however it is a phrase invented by the US military and it means “ a million people killed by a Nuclear explosion” Fact. And that’s a rather childish and immature phrase for a powerful nation to invent.

Dave’s voice can grow on you. It depends on the balance of the overall song, the insane guitar work, the attitude (like you said) and the message of his songs (from Peace Sells and later). It’s when you add all that up, that Dave’s voice can grow on you. But it still all depends on preference. I am actually an insane fan of both bands. I don’t get into the feud. Both bands can be (and are great). I won’t tell you which one I like more. But there is a definite favorite for me.

I really appreciate your guys honnesty and I know that one of the big turn aways with Megadeth thus far has been Dave's voice. In his first 4 albums up to Rust in Peace, Dave was still trying to find his voice. He finally did that when they released Countdown to Extinction, their 5th album. I think from that point on you'll actually like how Dave sounds and I also highly recommend their latest album Dystopia as he sounds very different than he has on previous albums because his voice has slowly been evolving a little bit with each album since Countdown.

hahaha i knew this was coming next after four horsemen :D i didnt want to write it, didnt want to jinx it :DDD great video, every reaction i watch, you guys grow more and more on me. as far as dave vs kirk goes, in my head they are not even comparable as musicians. dave is so much above for me. specially lately, i cant stand kirk solos since he started overusing that wah pedal. this is my opinion only. kill em all album would not be classic what it is if there were no original line-up, and that includes james, lars, cliff and dave. for me its not just who played it, its who wrote it. and yea, i agree, megadeth was always a rebellious band (even after dave became born again christian and refused to play with ghost few years back because of their satanic imagery :D ). and dave''s vocals are just iconic for that band. some people like it, some dont, but megadeth would not be megadeth without those vocals. keep up great work.
@rjgamer22063 жыл бұрын
I know this video is old but i think this needs to be said, about what was said in the intro, dave never recorded the solos but he wrote most if not all of them in kill em all, the metallica guys wanted kirk to copy dave's solos note for note but since he wasnt able to perfectly match dave because of their vastly different styles the kill em all solos only had slight changes

I think they need to do Melancholy. It begs for an interesting conversation from them.

Both of those songs would be great.

Firstly, I doubt Dave was porking groupies left, right, and center. It was just a song, A song, it's not like Megadave did a shit ton of songs about sex{he's done a number about failed relationships, but still not all that many even of these}- most of Daves/megadeths songs are philosophical and/or political in nature{and as of the last 15-20 years since he became a born againer- some religiously themed songs and albums too}. He was dooing alot of drinking and drugs at the time which is why Tallica booted him{they also drank alot, and they probably all did some weed too; but he was dooing harder drugs to at the time- and they were'nt and it was interfering with the bands advancement}. Note, Dave was botted from the band before Kill Em All[the first thrash record} was released, and Kirk brought in before it was released. Aas for the "big 4" and thrashers not getting aids and dying and shit. Welll, the classical heavy metal bands, thrash bands[and deathsters and black metallers too} were never really about groupies and random, rampant sex with groupies. LoL! Some probably had some sex with a few groupies here or there along the way, but this was'nt{and isn't} really a thing or so rampant in these genres. Now, GLAM/Hair metal is a different situtation. The Glam/hair metal bands were all about sex and with groupies, the Motley Crues and Poisons, and Kiss, and so on bands- they took alot of infleunce in this regard from the 70's classic rock and hippy acid rock bands of having as much sex as possible with as many groupies or women{or men, if female bands/members or gay guys, or with females if gay chicks,etc} as possible, yes- though even most of these eventually outgrew it. Glam metal/hair metal always, in part, about free love/sex[and groupies and orgies and all that shit}- along with hard drugs, drinkin andn partying as much as possible. That lifestyle. Metal- metal{just straight forward heavy metal} and thrash[and death and black} metal were always more about the artform,/music and peraps drinkin and/or smoking weed and a little partying; not so much about porking as many groupies or people as possible. Most of em hadP{or have these days and for years now} devoted relationships and marriages and all that jazz, a bit more traditional morally in that regard, than the glam/hair metal and classic rock bands. It is a shock that most of the glam metallers never got aids or died and shit. Not so much a shock that the heavy metallers, thrashers, death metallers, and black metallers did'nt. The stereotype is is pretty much true of much of the glammetal and 70's classic rock bands{male and female}, but not so much of the rest of the metal scene

Had to scroll a bit to find someone who actually commented on this point - appreciate your input. Makes you wonder about the prevalence of the virus within groupie demographics at the time...

The four horsemen was originally the mechanix. But when Dave was kicked out literally days before recording began on kill em all he said hey don’t use my stuff. So they slowed it down and changed the lyrics. That’s why the song itself is the same.

What is interesting about this great song is that Megadeth has joined the ranks of other great bands in writing a song about a machine (car) and yet the song is really filled with sexual innuendos. I think it’s a restore one driven song, just like Deep Purple’s Highway Star, Rainbow’s Death Alley Driver, and Queen’s I’m in love with my car. All classic rock songs. Well done Megadeth

Simplifying what? Adding extra parts, a more insightful set of lyrics and topic, more and improved solos, a crisper and cleaner more carefully executed performance? Oh, wait, you meant Megadeth simplified, my bad.

It's a show car. No one is driving it. It's a fuckin work of art.

I generally like Megadeth better, but the Four Horsemen is clearly the better song. And please check out Megadeth's Looking Down the Cross, same album as this one.

Dude...I was going to comment exactly the same. I don't really like Mechanix nor Four Horsemen but I think the latter is the best version. And Looking Down The Cross is the best song in both debut albums.

If you cans till find it , this was a song that Dave sang with Metallica , there is a Mechanix EP out there by Metallica , featuring Dave and James both doing lyrics. When Dave left he took Mechanix with him and Metallica kept Jump in the Fire , Phantom Lord , Metal Mitlita , Creeping Death and Call of Ktulu !
