They were playing small venues around this time, which was weird considering Cryptic writing was successful.. This huge crowd proves they should have been playing bigger places. On the plus side Static X opened for them and they became 1 of my favorite bands after that show.

@@Turk_2023 Cryptic Writings tour was a big tour. The tour actually lasted for almost 2 years (1997 & 1998). Even in 1998, they played mostly in stadium in South America. They actually played for 3 days in Parque Sarmiento Stadium Argentina. Megadeth mostly played at indoor venue in United states (except festival) but during the 90's , they played in arena size indoor venue (anywhere from 5.000-25.000 capacity). However, the music scene started to changed once again in late 98 when bands like Korn & Limp Bizkit started to dominate the airplay on both radio and MTV. This obviously had huge impact on them. By the time they released Risk album, nobody in US would care about 80's band.

From the looks of it he got a hair transplant around St anger because in their Some kind of monster documentary you can see he was receding a bit. Personally i wouldn't like any other vocalist in Megadeth songs. Dio is the great vocalist in metal but in Megadeth it would soung Lame As Fuck, James Hetfield is all HEY YA HEA YEAAAAAH, and the music is sooooooooooo, way sooo fucking much simple. Just 1 chord and 4 words -- thats the whole Metallica formula. And Hetfield in Megadeth would sound shit. Any great vocalist in Megadeth sickness and insane complexity would sound lame, even Bruce Dickinson

I love Megadeth. More than Metallica, but Mustaine's singing is not on par with the quality of the band. With such high quality songwriting and guitar work one would expect better vocals. I know it's kind of a signature of the band, but still detracts from it. Not all the times, though.

@@shamrock32 , he could have made auditions for a vocalist, but I guess being the lead singer gives him total control of the directions the band would take. If someone else became "The Face" of Megadeth (as normally happens with lead singers) he would be stuck with that person, and could lose control/fanbase if the singer decided to leave or wanted to do something different than what Mustaine wanted. I'm not blaming him, though. It's his band after all. I still love it, but I am disappointed when I listen to some live versions and feel like he's not on par with the studio version.
