In my experience, everyone who says playing and singing holy wars at the same time is easy or just practice either does not play correctly and cuts out many details of the main singing part riff, or just slaughters the tempo. I believe Kiko Loureiro himself told that he could not play Holy Wars and sing at the same time, but there are lots of internet guitar players out there who think could nail it.

I started with Metallica a few years back--I think Four Horsemen, Master of Puppers, Seek and Destroy were some of my earliest memories before delving into all their stuff--and hearing the infamous story about Dave got me into Megadeth shortly after. Killing is My Business was a slow burner, took me a while to come round to that one because it's very raw and aggressive, but initially Peace Sells made me a fan with its technicality. These days, my all-time favorite Megadeth records (I've only heard the ones they did in the 80s and 90s, nothing yet post 2000) are Cryptic Writings, So Far So Good So What, Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, Countdown to Extinction, mostly in that order lol but I love just about everything I've heard of them. Risk is criminally underrated. May not be their most defining work, but experimenting and being different was kind of the point of that album, and it's good just different. With Pantera I started with Cowboys, when I went deep diving into their albums, but I think my first song was probably Mouth For War, since that's the song in Doom E3M1. If you listen some of Pantera's earlier 80s works, whose existence is unacknowledged officially but an open secret to most metalheads--the guitar style is very indicative of Van Halen-esque shreddery and piercing, Rob Halford-esque vocals. In short, they're like just about every other good 80s metal band. A lot of that 80s flavor is indicative on Cowboys, since the material was written '88-'89, but you get hints of the heavier style that would be cemented in Vulgar and beyond. Maiden in many ways wrote the guidebook for so many metal bands like Metallica, particularly when it comes to their signature dual guitar harmonies (although I seriously doubt they invented the idea, but they certainly helped popularize it and inspire others). I don't know what your introduction to the band was, but I started with the self-titled debut and the followup Killers, both of which feature Paul DiAnno on vocals. He has more of an edgier, almost punk persona whereas the more famous Bruce Dickinson is thoroughly a showman, with more commercial appeal. See some of those live shows and you know what I mean. I also felt that his singing style was more reminiscent of Halford. Anyway, most people point to songs like "The Trooper" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" as goto staples, but personally I felt Killers was a great album, better than Piece of Mind, which I actually hated at first. I do agree there is something of a hero/worship status with some of these bands, and Maiden is a huge example of this. It's the same reason I found it impossible to like the Beatles for a good long while, until I finally evicted whatever residual bias existed towards these supergroups and listened to the records for myself, with an open mind. Even if I didn't immediately think everything they did was brilliant, I certainly couldn't deny I liked them a good deal, and I liked them more and more with each successive listen. The introduction of Dickinson felt like such a stark change to the band that I didn't like it at first, but he won me over eventually. Right now, of the four albums I've listened to, my favorites are Killers and Number of the Beast. TL; DR You have to learn, or rather, I had to learn to tune out what anybody else says or thinks about something. It's impossible to fairly judge a work or a group if somebody else's notions of it, positive or negative, have any substance in your mind. Don't go in assuming it must be great and therefore live up to these impossible expectations or conversely assume it must be terrible either. Just treat it like any other no name band if you're hearing it for the first time, and give it a fair chance to prove itself to you.

I just discovered Megadeth this year. WHERE HAVE I BEEN ALL THIS TIME? This song is a masterpiece of thrash metal and my favorite song by them. The riffs, the lyrics, the dynamics in the song structure. All this time I've listened to Metallica and practically ignored Megadeth. BOTH BANDS ARE GREAT. There is no need to argue about which is better. IT'S OK TO LIKE THEM BOTH. This Megadeth lineup was the pinnacle: Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman, Menza. I was such a huge fan of Metallica and I thought they were the best thrash metal band ever. when I first heard this song, I didn’t quite like it, it was “too fast for me” and a lot going on with the instruments. Days later, I checked this song out again, but the live version in Italy 1992. The first out of the 4 of them to catch my attention was the drummer. His playing and showmanship literally had me so in awe. I had never seen someone look so cool playing the drums. His swing style and how he would stand up playing sometimes. His playing was so different from every other drummer till now. And now because of him, the almighty Nick Menza, i am a drummer now. He made Megadeth sound so funky and groovy but kept that thrash metal sound which separated him from everyone else. Megadeth is my favorite music, I’m not even gonna say band or genre because they showed me how music is supposed to sound like.

This is 35 years old and still one of the few best albums in metal ever. This was Mustaine at the height of his powers. Killer metal riffs backed by killer leads. Killing songwriting. Everything was on point except for their personal lives. But hey, sometimes that's the price of great art.

I was a sophomore in high school when this came out. My health teacher wanted us to bring 2 songs that helped us relax. We would listen to everyone's selection for 2 days. I brought a tape of this song. I was so excited to play my songs! My second choice was Jimi'z Jam by 24-7 Spyz. Most everyone had chosen easy listening or ballad songs. When it was my turn, she asked what was I going to play. I said it was Megadeth, and she was taken aback. It must have been weird hearing that from the band geek Blasian with an afro. So I pop my tape in, and once that first riff starts, it just jarred the whole classroom. My health teacher looked so confused, but she stuck to her rule of letting the whole song play. After it ended, she just says ".....O.....K! Well music has different effects on everyone! It may scare some, but relax others" . I then turn to my friend that I had a crush on, and asked how she liked it. ".....it was scary." My metalhead friend on the other side just said "that was badass!".

So basically you are a loser....That would make for a much shorter story. Music is about the inside, you don't have to push it to anyone. Metal is in your head, in your heart and soul. A true metalhead doesn't need to force others to listen to good music just to look cool.

@@mikatu wow dude what a weird way to take it. the point was when i first heard metal, it's what made me feel relaxed. I didn't realize it didn't have that effect for others. I had just gotten into it, and it blew my world. I was hoping this was what it would be like for others, since so many were scared of it because of the D&D urban legend, and the Judas Priest scandal at the time. fucking a. Plus we were all 14-15 I had no idea about this metal code you speak of. Especially when that's how we found out about music that wasn't pop back then. We would play it for others.

I think it's one of the best leads I've ever seen a play ever I've seen him live back in the 90s and he was good as hell
