I could believe phonetic alphabets developed individually as societies grew. The need for accounting with trade gained importance and clear simplicity was needed.

Very interesting. Good to hear the Neolithic jazz still playing its part in British prehistory.

New goal- I have to visit more of these ancient sites in Devon and Cornwall. The writing and the cylindrical seals are incredible. Do you think they were used in soft clay? I’m trying to think of an appropriate material. Thanks Laura!

It's great news about the Bodmin enclosure. Perhaps now finally Heman Tor will get a reappraisal . Obviously so much more going on there, just needs a bit of fresh thinking

The red looks good on you. The guy in the picture from Dartmoor, the one in the middle without a hat with the waxed cotton jacket (I have one of those), looks so much like he belongs there. Actually, when I let my beard and hair grow, I look a lot like that, and I am Greek (100%) American. I actually may have walked in that area when I lived in the UK (Winchester).

It's only surmise but the cillinders could function very much like Sumarian pictographic seals which could be rolled to stamp or impress their mark. Their having a hole running through them and their shape and size suggest this as a possibility.

Could these parallel lines of stones have been used to control animals for hunting or capturing animals?

aaahhh, Laura! how's our Meg Hunter, today? but, of course...i missed the premiere 'n chat... gettin' to be th' norm😒 however, got to watch and....i must say, these "new" discoveries just seem to keep popping up! it's beginning to look like the whole of Britain was once covered by standing stone structures, of several types. and, in the 1st photo, didja see?......there was a pyramid on the skyline!!?? yes?? perhaps that was A reason for the construction of that particular circle at that particular site!?!?😅 just sayin' what some folk are thinkin'...... twould be wild if twere built by human hands😂 the pyramid, i mean.........great video, of course! our Laura posts nothin' less!! also.....the earlier, possibly alphabetic, writing is very interesting.....the fertile crescent area was a hot-bed of innovations in all sorts of categories...not surprising if written language originated there, too! i'll be watchin' for new info on that, prolly from our Lauras' channel😊 see you in the next one, my dear!🤩 stay warm🌡☀️
