As a child of extreme abuse, this song hits my soul. My mother and step-father did unspeakable things to me. They even attempted to kill me when I was around 6. They stripped me naked and threw me outside in a snowstorm. My aunt, who lived around 10 miles from my house, drove past the house and saw me in the yard. She scooped me up and sent me to live with my grandparents in Southern California. My mother's reason was that she never wanted a male child. I was returned to my parents, and physical and mental abuse continued until I was 17. I took things into my own hands. I discovered that my stepfather is a coward. I am now nearly 62 years old and have no relationship with anyone in my family. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at 26. My grandmother forced my mother and two sisters to go to Walter Reed AMC in Washington DC to spend time with me and my wife. My mother walked into my room and went on an hour long tirade about how hard her life was. The three of them never ask how my wife and I were doing. After the hour long "visit," she and my sisters spent the next three days living in my apartment, eating my food, and driving my car to visit all the things in DC. They never returned to the hospital. I have forgiven them. I discovered that if I did not, it would destroy me.

This song always hits hard I've cried real hard on this song too the first time I heard it, heck I still tear up every time I hear it even now I am tearing it up. It's hard to hear. It's up there with Dear Mr. Jesus with kids being hurt. It makes me sad. But if you get the time, check out that song.

Heart felt reaction man. One of realist songs I've ever heard and like you said the sad reality this happens everyday this is going on now. Man I hope for channel growth and look forward to your next reaction.

Just now heard this. And for the sake of honesty not only was I that kid at one point but also currently in a relationship with a single mom. And this song...I'm glad you paused every so often because I was tearing up. As beautiful as this song is I'll come right out and say it this song was pissing me off. Why you ask? Because that wasn't a man. That's a damned COWARD! And I swear by all that I hold dear if anyone harms a single hair on my Ole Lady and/or her babies...😭😠🤬

It affected me the same way the first time and still does. People, protect our babies. Stop these cowards. I've reported child abuse before and will every time. I'd rather tip the adults apart with my bare hands but I know that's not the answer. Still.......

Brother I feel ya. I grew up in abusive from my dad. But I am blessed with a mom that took that and reflected that from me. She is my superwoman. 35yrs ago she then decided to take the roll of mom and dad. Back then I was to young to know what was going on. Mom's are more out here now wanting to kill wombs instead of protecting that cold. Love and God bless you brother

@Wayland many times our past carves wounds that are hard to heal. Nevertheless, as we get older and learn more about how TRUE LOVE works, it tends to mend those wounds and they become a reminder of why our present and future should not reflect those times. There are good people in this world. Your MLD family will keep loving on you.

@@darthnevik5505 trust is one of the hardest things after being treated like your life was made to be a punching bag for someone who’s supposed to love you. I started out mean but I’m in my 50’s now and with GODS help and a lot of reading and praying….I’ve forgiven my dad (he died before I could in person. He took his own life because he realized what he’d done and didn’t want to do it anymore…) I can now say that…because of who I am now…I wouldn’t change anything….well, I suffered thru all types of abuse and some, maybe I would erase. But if given the chance to go back and have a “normal” life…no, I wouldn’t. The mother I am..the wife I am..the sister I am and the friend I am….I just wouldn’t be without what I call…my boot camp. God bless you!!!!
