After finally arresting Wily after six different incidents, threatening his brother, friends and kin, not only does Wily break out of prison, he sets up a mole to infiltrate Light Labs and destroy it on his way out, seriously endangering Dr. Light and Roll in the process. Because Megaman changes on the end, by his behavior ans the fact he really thinked about kill Wily, I think this is the bridge with Megamn X. But Capcom wanted to continue with Megaman8, 9 etc... I will never understand the infantile hate this game gets. It had a fantastic soundtrack, great gameplay and plenty of stuff to discover. Besides that, there's no ending in the series as epic as this one. Mega Man walking away like a badass from the smoldering flames of Wily's seventh castle, the look on his face showing he's really begun to lose all patience with Dr. Wily's antics, all to the tune of that astonishing credits roll music.

Actually, in the Japanese version, instead of Megaman saying "Die Wily!" Wily reminded Megaman that robots can't kill humans, and Rock responded with, ".............." That was just something they added in the localization to make Megaman seem cooler.

Might not be a huge fan of this game myself, but I can't deny this ending is incredible, the way Mega Man's expression alternates between mad and calm during the credits... Wily's fortress burning in the background, the melancholic music, it all comes together so well, he's certainly mad that Wily escaped yet again, he tried to kill Wily, but he couldn't due to being limited by his programming, it's so good.

I also like this ending because of contemplative it is. The Japanese version has Rock stop and think about why Wily says that robots cannot harm humans,as a way for him to realize what he was doing,holding someone up at gunpoint in a castle about to erupt into flames.He knows this is against his programming and falls silent.But that was clearly a ploy so Wily can escape. The English version has Rock lose it and threaten Wily with death,something that completely goes against his programming.Being that Wily pulled this stunt for far too long,he didn't want to deal with it anymore.Of course Bass shows up and taunts Rock for hesitating to attack while Treble teleports Wily away. Both really seem to get the player thinking about the situation,either Rock refuses to shoot Wily for the sake of the Laws of Robotics,or he shoots and kills Wily,going against them,because he can't deal with it anymore.

I really like this ending. I. Never had the pleasure to play but it's like after all these games you get god damn sorry from this troll doctor only for him to do this again. Especially in 6 where he straight out escapes. He doesn't really listen to Wily. I think he was listening to himself at that moment - wondering if he was doing the right thing. This was the most "personal" of all his battles thus far. He began to think he might have a friend in Bass, this new robot - who actually ended up being just another of Wily's creations. Bass betrays Mega and hits him at home, behind his back, putting Mega's family in danger. The betrayal obviously hits him hard.

I think every one of us here is too focused on the ending dialogue, mostly the one that only appears in the US version ; I only now noticed the subtle change in facial expression Mega Man goes through when walking away. When we first see Mega Man walk, he's wearing a somber look, like he's reflecting on the fact that he almost killed a human being. But then, for every other robot master, he lets his anger show and seems like he has no remorse, as if saying to himself this was all done in the name of justice. However, he goes back to guilt a few moments later. Isn't that flow of emotions amazing ?

It's cause in the japanese the dialogue is a bit different. Instead of 'I am more than a robot!' he's just quiet, and lowers his buster, basically implying that he doesn't like it, but knows that Wily's right, robots (of this era) can't willingly harm humans. Which ties into the X series later on, with the creation of reploids who aren't limited by their programming, who can (and often do) choose to harm humans.

Wily ends up becoming the hero, and zero the savior that ultimately saves the world from a duranged lunatic megaman gone maverick, explaining how zero got the maverick virus, explaining why wily encapsulated him and why all the robots from the megaman series never make it to the x series, megaman killed them all save for zero and X.

But megaman isn't like other robots and Duo doesn't stick around to make sure he got all of the energy. And as we learn in mm9/10 wily still had some of it, either within him, sealed away or the blueprints from which to recreate it, which he used to create roboenza. even inufane said zero was not the one who killed everyone in the original saga, which leaves really only one conclusion, megaman went nuts after 30 years of endless war and bloodshed all from the rampaging of wily and the enabling of light hold rock back from ending the threat. He raids the robot museums, uses roboenza to control the rest and that leaves light and wily having to come together, and convert Protoman into zero, which honestly proto...zero... inufanes practically screaming zeros origins.

While he likely wanted to put an end to things once and for all since it was becoming clear that was the only way to finally cease Wily's destruction, he probably questioned his resolve to actually pull the trigger as he prepared to fire. In the Japanese version, Megaman does not respond to Dr Wily after the laws of robotics are invoked. It's more in character with Megaman's 'heroic' persona but I think the adaptation team did it better. After everything Wily has done Megaman deciding to end it once and for all is pretty extreme but completely understandable. It makes Megaman seem more real. Great stuff.

This is a very dark ending. Mega Man looks disgusted as he's walking away from all the carnage. He's thinking, "I'm sick and tired of doing this kind of shit! I've had enough!" This is probably why X depises violence so much; because his whole former life as Mega Man was so chaotic.

Without knowing more about the tech it's tough to say. He could quite possibly override his programming if he has gone beyond it over the years. But if there was actual hardware involved he might never gain access to it unless he manually ripped it out somehow or shorted it out. He's definitely a learning robot. I think Dr Light caught wind of this when megaman returned home and reprogrammed him for megaman 8. There was a huge change of character between those two games.

It's no matter of him learning his lesson; he really just doesn't care." Y'know? I wanna feel bad for Mega Man. Time and again he fights this guy. I'd not have blamed him one bit if he'd gathered his courage and blown Wily's face off right then and there. Not one court would have found him guilty - he'd have been hailed a hero.
