I agree, The OST is up there. It's possibly my first contact with jazz rock/metal/fusion if I think about it. It was very different from X1 in a good way. Faster paced and more metal. X3 is even heavier.

@Metalltool I definitely have the same experience! X1 probably has the most accessible bangers and my personal favorite is X3 because I love heavy metal, but X2 is just something really special. I'm not sure the SNES soundfonts did it justice back in the day but when people like you uncover the dirt from this diamond in the rough with your covers it always makes me go "Hold on, this is really REALLY good".

The songs were all really short, but Yuki Iwai did an amazing job composing them. It's too bad she didn't have a long career; this was her most prominent lead composer role.

Great cover as always! It was an amazing rendition of the original until THAT riff at 1:17 hit. Feels like a brutal mix of Slayer and Megadeth. Then I knew this was definitely gonna be a fucking awesome cover. Brutal solos too! Also worth mentioning the buildup at 2:19 and the AMAZING melodic part afterwards Everything's just top notch, couldn't have asked for more!

I love how your cover pays the perfect tribute to the original up to the 1:15ish mark which captures that frantic feeling of running around Wheel Gator's level. Then once you get past that, you take what was already a fun foundation of the OG song and give it a complete upgrade into your own creative spin. This is my new favorite of yours hands down. Ive always liked the sense of danger and paranoia the original song has. Youre never really safe, never really allowed to adjust to anything. Its unpredictable, loud, and harsh, and thrashes around. Youve DEFINITELY nailed the spirit of the piece

To this day I rarely got it without the leg parts. I got it with the Wire Chain once, but it was one in a million. Apparently it's possible with base X only, but it needs inhumane levels of pixel perfect precision :D

​@Metalltool Every time I do a playthrough of X2, this is the first stage to hit before the X-Hunters show up. I would always spend as long as it takes to get the Buster upgrade with just dash jumping. Sometimes I luck up and get it in a couple tries, other times it takes a good 10 minutes of running X into the wall to achieve.

A follow up post because I’m such a huge Mega Man nerd, but X2’s tracks have a lot of themes that have a Prog rock feel and probably don’t get enough love because of it’s unconventional rhythms. That being said, I would LOVE to see Overdrive Ostrich covered. I haven’t found one cover that gives me goosebumps, and if anyone can make a song godlike, it’s you!
