It's called a plot armor. Always happens when you face the playable character as a boss. Kinda unfair but they always buff the boss version of playable character due to the level balance :(

The X Legacy Collection 2 version doesn't seem to have this issue. I think Capcom changed the rng. When I first started playing X5 on XLC2, I kept losing Zero. Now, I rarely ever do. I usually finish getting the Enigma parts after I first get all of the shuttle parts. Then, I finish collecting the Enigma parts from one, or two of the Mavericks that have them. The Enigma fires, usually gets 60-some percentage, then the shuttle is used, and ends up being successful. Very rarely, the Enigma will be enough to destroy the Eurasia Colony. Zero doesn't go Maverick.

From the way I see this fight between X and Zero, it's a combination of both sides, they run into each other on the same mission, X expresses his concerns while Zero states that he's fine. X isn't buying that so he threatened to use force, Zero calls X dumb for fighting over something so petty/trivial and states that X will lose. The fight starts with Zero in black armor and X in the Ultimate armor and the fight ends with both using soul body on each other. Thus prompting this cutscene where Zero saves X again.

Fun fact: If Zero turned Maverick, and you fought him here when he's above Level 20, Maverick Zero will start spamming his strongest attack when the fight lasts longer than 2 minutes. At that point, the boss fight is impossible to win; not only will Maverick Zero spam the attack non stop, he is also immune to ALL attacks.

I mean this fight between them is canon not the awaken Zero one so in the story of the game Zero fought X wearing ultimate armor in base form. Base Zero power = ultimate armor X or even greater and stronger than ultimate armor X. Those shots from his buster probably have a lot of attack potency behind them.

In terms of strength yes, Zero is far stronger. However as light stated, X has unlimited potential meaning he has the ability to counter and exploit things in his favor via his armor upgrades and his weapon variable ability. So I would say theyre both equal

@@Anginitkapetayo I would disagree. Light was referring to X's limitless potential in terms of his ability to grow and evolve as a being and a person. Light gave him upgrades and enhancements out of a necessity for survival in a savage world, it was never lights intention for X to be a weapon of war. This is why X's enhancements came as peacemeal over time, lights program had to play catch up with the times. By X5, X was pretty much was at the limits of his original design specs, which is why Sigma was able to basically blast X to pieces at the end. I also say this in view of the rest of the X series after X5 being fan fiction as capcom trashed Inufanes plans for the X series by making X6 behind his back. The X forgetting Zero and seeking to create ellysium ending in X5 was the true ending and Inufane intended a smooth jump from X5 to the Zero series with possibly one or two more X games laying the ground work for Dr.Vile and Omega and the fomation of neo Arcadia and the elf wars....but again never happend saddly. So yeah X had reached his full potential by the end of X5, he went on to form neo arcadia right after that in cannon and acheived lights vision for him thus concluding the Light upgrading programs purpose. Where as Zero was only at the begining of his potential at this point in the saga. By the end Zero would utterly eclipse X in sheer power and strength 100 fold. Remember Zero was designed to be the most powerful being on earth...and he eventually was.

Thru the course of the game zero notices that the virus is making him stronger and lifesavers research indicated that Zeros exposure to the sigma(maverick) virus was making him stronger. Signas had his suspicions as well and eventually X noticed it as well. X however was worried he may be going maverick and for him he couldnt bear to lose his friend again.

Sigma tricked X, and Zero into fighting each other, although his main plan was to "wake" Zero "from his false self". X thought Zero was going Maverick, tried convincing him to return to hunter base, and threatened to take him back to base by force. Zero initially was shocked that X was willing to fight him, remarked that he had hoped them fighting wouldn't have to happen, and he mentioned the possibility that X might have gone Maverick. In short, Sigma wanted to return Zero to how he was when he first fought Sigma, and Sigma tried killing both X, and Zero by putting them against each other.

Lol maybe Zero's buster shot has just as much attack potency as X's charged shot Zero is pretty damn strong. I know we are talking about gameplay and has nothing to do with the game but if we take it out of the game for a second if think about it and this fight in the game is canon that would mean canonically Zero faced X in his ultimate armor with nothing this was Zero in base form not awakened Zero no extra power just base form Zero. so that would roughly place his power level in base near X wearing Ultimate armor. Some proof there that Zero is still even in this game just a bit stronger than X or atleast equal to him also in the games ending a dying Zero took a direct shot from Sigma it tore apart X and killed him but Zero still lived just long enough and shot Sigma with just a buster and managed to destroy the rest of him with that 1 shot so yeah it wouldn't be crazy for Zero's tiny little pellet shot to shoot right through X's charged shot if we take it out of the game for a moment. but from a gameplay standpoint it shouldn't do that maybe shot eraser is equipped? but I think that only works for the saber.

My favorite armor is Falcon Armor, it's similar to Ultimate Armor.

Zero was created to be an absolute killing machine and doesn't rely on special armor. X is only smart as Dr Light and is able to end battles without putting himself into too much danger. Zero is stronger by far

Wow i played this game religiously as a kid (mostly to get to this point in the game), and I didn’t realize black armored zero’s z-buster cancelled out X’s charged shots. Interesting... My biggest memories of this game were getting it the day it came out as a teenager and being so fucking pissed they arbitrarily decided to rename the bosses instead of translate them. Not only that but name them after one of the most overrated bands ever, god damn I hated and still hate them to this day! And I love that era of rock like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Metallica (only early years), etc). The names were so stupid and man oh man adding Aylia. The best thing this game had going for it was the story to an extent (in regards to the Wily connections, not the useless new characters), some weapons are kinda cool, cool bosses if you think of what their name really should be (and finally was fixed for the collections) and the gameplay, even though it’s basically a reskinned Mega Man X4.
