I saw SJB with Annaleigh Ashford and they were a dream duo. When she sings ‘like a handprint on my heart’ Steph grabbed AA’s hand and put it on her heart. So touching!

Stephanie J. Block (or 'SJB' as she is known by fans) was the original choice for the role of Elphaba, and was the actress Stephen Schwartz thought about while composing the original score of the musical. She read the role of Elphaba during the early stages of development in 2001-2002, she sang a song or two from Wicked before it ever began, she was asked to do this on very short notice. Warner Brothers then agreed to put millions into the show. She first created “Elphaba.”
