I do think it’s part of being raised in a society that has an extremely unhealthy relationship with sex. Like it or not, those are the ones that get the most attention. So, this video is full of symbolism. Everything is done with a purpose. It feels weird when you take it at face value, but once you think about the entire context of what’s being said and what’s being shown, it begins to make sense. Snakes have a bad rep in popular culture, but historically, they’ve also represented transformation and healing. Her crawl in the beginning is symbolic of her inner anxiety and fear. Its often interpreted in dreams as a decline in status, setback or suffering humiliation. When snakes shed, they’re at their most vulnerable stage. In the wild especially, snakes will go into hiding for a couple of weeks to protect themselves as they go through that process. In the video, Megan isn’t hiding. Instead, she’s placed on display in a glass case in front of spectators who are watching and taking pictures of her as she’s shedding her skin. That coupled with her subsequent nudity represents her vulnerability. Then when you pair that imagery with the lyrics she’s saying, it really hits you that during one of the most traumatic moments of her life, where she’s missing her parents and their unconditional love and guidance the most, she’s being treated like a spectacle and betrayed by the ppl closest to her, who don’t really care how she’s doing as long as they’re getting paid. To top it all off, the person she shared her bed and heart with, is also caught by her, cheating in the one place she’s supposed to be able to hide away and find peace and safety. Rain represents renewal. The washing away of your past or sadness. During this scene where it rains, she mentions how she’s now back outside (post shedding), back in motion (moving forward) and although her ex called, she’s ignoring it (not looking back). We also see Megan get back to her dancing roots. She danced in high school and has always been a fan of adding choreography to her videos and performances. This is probably the most technical routine she’s done yet. Not only that, but she’s dancing in the desert. Deserts represent isolation and loneliness (mirroring how she feels), but also clarity and a place for transformation. It’s an environment where the elements are rather extreme and places it’s inhabitants to the test. Then at the very end, we see eggs which can symbolize rebirth or new life. (Or fertility lol…hence why we use them during Easter, which is used to celebrate the goddess of sex and fertility, Ishtar) . So this probably has double meaning. 1) It signifies the new Megan 2) The 4 eggs represent 4 more songs to come. And the cracking we heard means another one or the full EP is gonna come soon.

I actually love the way you pointed out the 2 contrasting ideas between the deep vulnerability in her lyrics and her visuals. It definitely gives the feeling of cognitive dissonance and I’m pretty sure that’s what’s she’s trying to convey. The face she gotta put on for the label she was under and for her fans while really being depressed as hell while no one is noticing you in that state really fucks up a person mentally and would give someone a sense of cognitive dissonance trying to be 2 people at the same time. Great reaction and analysis, I can see your point about the sexualization. Megan is a proudly sexual person and has always been that openly so I don’t think that’s something she’ll ever abandon completely. She’s heavily influenced by Blaxploitation and anime (especially this video) which both tend to be more sexual/explicit in depiction. I also think she may be using sex intentionally to sell (like all artists), but with a Doja way of thinking: make you think you’re getting one thing from the aesthetics and hit you with something different sonically.
