I find it funny that you can choose to do this stage immediately after the intro stage, so you can basically do this fight two times in a row. But we actually have a cutscene at the end of this level, addressing the mystery on why Ypsilon seems so different now. It seems despite being right in front of us and fighting us, he doesn't give off any signal. Lola suspects ghosts, Copen presses X to doubt. Who knows what's going on here.
Of course, this series shares the same universe as Gal Gun which has actual demons in it, so ghosts aren't too out of the ordinary.
