There's also the Suzuki Jimny, which I'd say really is the nearest direct competitor for this car. Very simple, but for a larger vehicle there is also the Land Cruiser 70-series, which is still selling well, despite the newer "better" versions being on offer as well. Politics of the war aside, I think the Niva would do well in export markets. When it was available in the UK and Australia, it was a popular choice, though to reintroduce them now would need a fair bit of work to meet regulatory requirements, especially on emissions and electronic active safety systems like traction control etc.

Yes, a cheap and a great 4x4. I had one had it for 10 years, never let me down well serviced, and it was great to drive snow and ice and hot steamy days. Would have another no dealers in the uk.

The design goes back to the Soviet era and very little had been changed since, so I imagine this is the vehicle that will keep going until the end of time.

A brand new base model 4x4 for under $10k USD. They would sell thousands of these in the US market. Same for the Bukhanka 4x4 vans @ $9,000-12,000. ❤🇷🇺👍

Renault was supposed to bring Lada dealerships to Mexico and that fell thru, I was excited to get the chance to buy a cheap Lada 4x4, i hope somehow we get them here, they would sell like pancakes.

I wouldn't trust new German cars even more. They rust like crazy too; the quality is low; there are too many cheap materials; they are full of unnecessary electronics and cost about five times more. I'm choosing Lada Niva; at least you can work on the car and repair everything by yourself. The parts don't cost much. Germans cars way too much overpriced.
