The Megavalanche is a downhill massstart race.
Approximately 1300 riders are expected every year to compete from the top of « Le Pic Blanc - France » at 3300 meters of altitude.
Since years, winning this race is one of my deepest dream !

The race usually depends on skill of the rider but sometimes mechanical failures like : flat tire, broken chain, broken rear derailleur, broken rims or even a broken frame, or broken fork or broken handlebar.. can result unfortunately to switch the victory in favor of other riders.. which is usually called luck because they didn't have any issue..

keep in mind are mounted on their head, our head is balanced and stabilized as well compared to our torso, is not like mounting the cam on the vehicle itself...

The fish-eye lens is ruining most videos though.

It's a lot due to the higher resolution at which they record nowadays. The stabilization is mostly done through software : the image is slightly cropped and an algorithm moves the video around to make it more stable. It's been used for a long time but with better sensors and shutter speeds,, the image is crisper thus easier to stabilize. It's great tech indeed.

It's so heartbreaking to see you come so close to victory yet so far, you did really well. Keep working hard, that victory is waiting for you. @@teijaflink2226 oh that's not Killian in the end. Killian's GoPro stopped working around 31 minutes mark, so he used Stefan Peter's (winner of this event) video. It says nr. 1 because Stefan Peter finished first. Sadly, Killian couldn't win due to tyre issues despite being in the front with comfortable lead.

Losing due to equipment failure is so brutal, especially when you were so far in the lead! That said, you were far enough ahead and close enough to the end that I'm convinced you would have won. Your body and mind won, even if your bike didn't! Mad props, bro. Unbelievable skill and stamina.

I really appreciated the annotations here. A great insight into what it takes to put yourself into a position to win with not just physical commitment, but the mental. Very impressed that you try to take some pleasure in riding your bike... what I would say is "Enjoy the challenge". Something I wish some coaches would have instilled in me earlier! It's such an interesting event; it's good to see it's competitors take it on with a good sporting attitude. Chapeau.

Yeah, the annotations were a great addition (wouldn't ask for on-bike commentary for obvious reasons!), and it was great of Stefan to let you have his footage after your gopro died, fantastic to see such cameraderie between competitors! Only thing I'd feed back on with the annotations is that, for me, the position was a little low - I kept having to go back in the video because I didn't notice them until they disappeared, and they're right over the video info overlay, which made quickly checking runtime a bit tricky.

As fan is hard to know about in race battles, so the only way we could see this is when they film-themselves racing & upload content and post it.. Tanks to these footages we now clearly see and understand how hard, dangerous and difficult is to win Megavalance with all mechanical failures that are part of this kamikaze downhill race .. Special detail when Killian blocked the rear shock before he enter in the forest section ! At this Level when each rider to try to set & adapt mechanical settings to the full race mode just blew me away..

The first few times I saw your races I was a bit disliked because you almost always won. . but after these last two unfortunate editions of the Megavalanche you have become my favorite and I will cheer for you. . together with the Italians. At 25:24 when you enter that S bend and you see the dramatic amount of braking you apply and the way you transfer your body weight. That's so impressive. I think its my favourite part of the video. BTW, cheers for keeping your GoPro clean 😉
