Meghalaya: Two KSU members remanded to police custody

Two members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), suspected to be involved in the Ichamati and Mawlai Mawroh murder cases were produced before the District Court following which they were remanded to police custody on April 24.
The two arrested members are Cleenstar Shabong from Nongthymmai suspected to be involved in the Ichamati murder case and Gary Mawlieh who is suspected to be involved in the Mawlai Mawroh murder case. The two have been remanded to seven days and twelve days of police custody, respectively.
Following the arrest, several KSU leaders and members gathered in front of the District Court to extend their support and also shouted slogans as the arrested members were taken away by the police.
Speaking to the media KSU President Lambokstar Marngar and General Secretary Donald Thabah expressed disappointment over the “injustice” done towards its members.
"The objective of the government to detain members of KSU is to deter them from going forward with their activities towards the betterment and the welfare of the Khasi community. But our message to the government is do what you do, arrest us, detain us, beat us up also but that will not deter us from going forward with our commitment and activities for safeguarding the rights of the Khasi people," stated Thabah.
The student leaders also cautioned the government against law and order situations in the state if such arrests continue.
"We don't know if police will make further arrests but we are yet to decide about future course of action. But we would like to issue a very strong warning to the government if it keeps on arresting and detaining our members we will be compelled to take action which might affect the law and order situation in the state," the KSU General Secretary added.

Some of these KSU leaders are too old to be in a student union. North East student unions should have strict eligibility to be a member of any student body such as age limit and must be a student.

It such a shame when tribal r killed by non tribal along with visual evidence there has never been any arrest but for khasi or jaiñtia tribal they arrest tribal only on suspicion without proof or legal court order What's more surprising is that every time police will go n arrest them past midnight time around 1 or 2 AM not on day rime cos they know if they come during day time they will have to explain the reasons y All indian need to know n understand a few things ever sinse conrad sangma became chief minister police have been aggressive to n extreme like never before constantly n thing r always one sided by NPP government another thing is if people protest demanding their right police r instructed to block the people n arrested them for demanding stuff like scholarship or removal of illegal migrants who settle around the state of meghalaya without documents n even when people played or sing a song from the VPP polical party in school or home they r told not to play or sing the song to secondary school students standard who do not have the right to vote yet Now they ban not to celebrate the MP election in Shillong on the 4 of june the day the vote will be counted🙃🙃🙃🙄🙄what next

@@mestatenga bruhh don't you see last two days when non tribal are eating in a resturant of a khasi they did not pay they tried to creat a scene at least 50 or 60 ppl non tribal came together what did the police do nothing damn it 😂the law should be equal to everyone what about that ichamati incident also who first started the non tribal Bangladeshi when KSU oppose CAA the non tribal and Bangladeshi came together and beat tribal ppl,peeling of stone etc2 till one died that's also 200 or 300 ppl what did the government do nothing 😂 till now also they did not get any justice it already been a year non tribal or Bangladeshi have guts now because government is on their side, if this still continues then it's the government who did this the law should be equal to everyone and we need ILP in meghalaya
