Hi there Lady C, This evening I was watching king Charles depart Samoa after the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting) and I have to say I thought it was a smashing success. This was historical for a number of reasons. First of all it is the first time in history a small Pacific island country has ever hosted such an auspicious occasion (it is much smaller that Fiji) and the Samoan's were gleeful aming with pride. Secondly Charles following the late Queens footsteps she was the first reigning monarch to step foot on Australian soil, but he was the first king to step foot in Australia and the welcome he got from us Australians was unsurpassed. More people turned up than officials expected by about four fold, infact more than the Buckingham palace officials expected when they came to plan the itinerary I am told. The only thing that put a bitter taste in one's mouth was he looked very tired as he was boarding his flight which is to be expected heavens I'm 44 and would be exhausted, but when asked about coming back to Samoa his response was along the lines "I hope I live long enough to come back". I am a read between the lines kind of Gentleman, so that comment gives me a feeling of unease. Even though it's only held every two years I know the late Queen regarded the CHOGM as one of the most important events in her diary and it is now very clear to all so does the king. I was hoping to get your thoughts if you thought CHOGM was a success Many thanks Dave

Thank you, Lady C. I always love when you share your cultural and artistic adventures with us. I don't have any friends who share my love of the arts with me, here in the US. I long to attend the orchestra and theatre, but everyone wants to go to the wine bar or play pickleball, which I also enjoy. My generation was not raised to attend the orchestra, and we have one of the best in the world close by, the Cleveland Orchestra. I loved to accompany my mother and aunts, who were all subscription holders, and for the theatre, also. We have the largest theatre district in the US after NYC. All the best shows toured here. When my mother and aunts died, so did my "arts gang." My son was regularly exposed to these things by me, and at 23 he love to go to the theatre and art museums with me still. But not dance or orchestral performances. I don't want to go alone, so he bought me these incredible Apple headphones, as You Tube is a wonderful space to explore. I am a pianist, but I love to watch Yehudi and Menuhin and other gems from the past. Ennio Morricone conducting his "Gabriel's Oboe" from "The Mission" soundtrack with chorus is transcendent.. Available on the EuroArts channel. Give it a watch! It seems soundtracks are the most accessible "classical' music of our time. Two I love to listen to when doing my work are "Cinema Paridso" and John Barry's "Out of Africa" soundtrack.
