Thanks Meghnaad. In the 16th Lok Sabha, Congress MP Jasbir Singh Gill introduced a private member's bill in Lok Sabha for limiting the “wasteful expenditure" during weddings. The bill mentions limits to the number of guests to be invited, a limit on the amount to be spent on food, and a limit on the value of gifts that can be given to the newlyweds. It's strange that we don't even discuss or debate these kinds of legislations.

Money moving hands n reaching other people is always better than hoarding! Plus India is not a communist state like China where government can tell you how you should spend your money! I have came across several numbers regarding cost of this wedding, and all of them mind boggling, last one was 600 million USD.
