The scene with Mythal and Solas reminded me of Leliana and Divine Justinia's relationship, when Mythal releases Solas from her service it's the same moment as "The Left Hand should lay down her burden" in Inquisition. I think Solas was bound to Mythal not through magic but through their relationship (whatever nature) and their past, just like Leliana was to Divine Justinia. He didn't want to let her down even tho it was not what she wanted anymore.

When you reacted to Morrigan romance, you were upset that Lavender couldn't go with Solas like Warden did with Morrigan in the Eluvian. Somehow Veilguard topped that for Solavellan reunion.

@@MegMage Writers said that because Lavellan went with Solas, the "fade prison" would become better with time, as they could basically shape their surroundings there and well they are in love. And since she's now physically in the fade she's most probably immortal.

And so another Dragon Age play through comes to an end. As if saving Solas wasn't gut-wrenching enough, they had to go and give us a reprise of "Lost Elf" from Trespasser... To this day, I don't think any Dragon Age song has topped that piece. On a slightly related note, though, the music that plays during the final phase of Elgar'nan's boss fight is actually a remix of "Not the Chosen One," AKA Rook's theme! So I that moment, it's OUR music that's playing. The secret ending definitely sets up the Executors as the next big threat. They were set up in Inquisition as "Those Across the Sea," and given the references to the "Devouring Storm" at the end of Taash's quest line, then I think we might finally get to learn more about the world beyond Thedas in Dragon Age 5, if that ever becomes a thing. And the line "The Veilguard remains vigilant" makes me think that Rook and the remaining Veilguard would play a more prominent role in the next game. This play through was an absolute joy to watch, and I loved laughing and crying along with you. I really hope you check out the other romances after this like you did for previous games, as there are some moments in those (particularly Harding's) that I think you'll enjoy a lot. Despite all the controversy around this game, I had so much fun with it and I'm glad you did, too, Meg!

If you have time, I’d recommend checking out some dialogue of Cole in Inquisition (especially Trespasser). There’s so much foreshadowing to everything that was revealed in Veilguard! Everything that sounded quite random and weird suddenly makes total sense. Mindblowing

Seeing another player having an emotionnal breakdown in front of the Atonement Ending will never get old. The writing in this game might be more or less off in a certain number of areas (duh, considering how many writers came and went on this project) but the themes of loss, grief, regret and redemption were very well crafted.

I am of the opinion that Veilguard was honestly a game that had it's reception written years before it was even released. No matter how "perfect" this game would have been in the general public's eye.... Yeah... I don't often take the side of publishers and big corporations, but Veilguard I feel is a great game getting trashed for simply existing :/

Not really, people were generally excited when Dragon Age: The Dreadwolf was revealed as it presented a darker tone. It was when people found out it was suppose to be a Live Service online game where excitement shifted to skepticism and worry. Then it got cancelled and revived as a Single Player game and reception was great again as people saw that EA learnt their lesson of not forcing BioWare to make live service games. Then the two people responsible for Dragon Age since the beginning left which had people worried and unfortunately for BioWare that reveal trailer did not do it any favors. All the reveal trailers perfectly show the tone of the game, from Origins to Inquisition. And when people saw the Hero Shooter like character introductions with a lighter tone in the writing, people were worried the tone would be like that. Despite people’s subjective opinions on it, positive or negative. Objectively the tone of that reveal trailer and the final game is not too far off.

@@cidolfas86Nor I. But this isn’t an opinion based fact. But you aren’t completely wrong. There’s proof of people reporting in the years of Dragon Age 4 coverage showing excitement even from those that ended up hating the game. So Years before? No. Objectively not. Months before as of that reveal trailer, yes. There were people that without a doubt made up their mind just based off that trailer. They wouldn’t play it or just simply hate it due to it not feeling like the previous three games and all due to that tone and the people who would play it and give it a chance, due to them liking that tone or were more open minded to it. Reviewers not included since it’s basically their job.

That secret ending doesn't sit right with me at all. Spoilers below: I thought this game was already tying way too many things to the ancient elves, and now it's saying that the previous 3 games were orchestrated by the Executors. Every major event is directly connected for seemingly contrived reasons and the universe feels inherently smaller and less interesting to me as a result. Why I don't like that Loghain was somehow influenced by a shadowy organization from across the sea is because it undermines his own characterization and agency. Ferelden was occupied by Orlesians for 100 years before he helped push them out; he didn't need anyone to trick him into being paranoid about them or feeling betrayed by a naive king who'd let them back into the country to possibly do it all over again. Loghain's misguided yet well-contextualized fear was his own undoing and I thought that made him more interesting and nuanced than any of the future main villains we've had who are just mustache-twirling cartoon villains with fancy voice filters. In DA2, a greedy Bartrand got corrupted by a magic artifact and sold it to the wrong woman, but now I guess random guys across the sea somehow orchestrated a convoluted series of events to corrupt Bartrand as a means to sow chaos in Kirkwall when surely there are easier ways to do that. In DAI, Solas mistakenly believed that Cory would die unlocking his orb, but now I guess the Executors puppeted Cory and Flemeth or something and even had a hand in causing the Breach.

Nobody ever said the game was bad, its a good game yes... but when it comes to long-term storytelling (the whereabouts of The Hero of Ferelden, the whereabouts of Hawke, the state of Ferelden/Orlais, does Keiran even exist, why didn't other characters come back like: Iron Bull, Merrill, Fenris, Sandal etc) it messes the whole DA universe. The "secret" ending basically means the idea we're gonna get a DA 5 but I think everyone strongly believes that we're never gonna get a DA 5 game. Regardless of the games success or unsuccess, after all the trouble, ups and downs the game went through the last 10 years, I think some predicted this would be the last DA game

even if you don't like him, him actually acknowledging his faults and binding himself is better than forcing him i mean that goes for everyone right? so i don't get this take and tricking him makes literally no sense, it's his own dagger.. he would know out of all options it makes the least amount of sense

@nightfrost1891 He isn't trustworthy at all. Him acknowledging faults is all he ever does, and uses that as an excuse. He deserves no companionship in there either. It's jail for a reason. I do agree, that why wouldn't he see past his own dagger and almost looks at it like he knows it's not his.

@@nightfrost1891 in the scene, solas is so high on his own supply that he legit doesn't check (ya know, just like all his other plans failed because of some failure of imagination on his part). like the orb situation alone should tell you that this makes sense as an ending for him (as do all the others).

I don't believe Solas deserves any redemption and even though I had the redemption option during the final choice, I still chose to fight him and punch him into the fade. He goes "I am a god and you're just a mortal", and yeah, that's who he is. But I will grant you that the part in the redemption ending where Mythal goes "I release you from my service" is very moving. Again, he's a well written character, and there is depth either way.
