Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle character is never referred to as Catwoman in the movie. Which i read was intentional and maybe why her outfit didn't really go into the complete Catwoman direction. I loved this iteration none the less.

So to answer a question in this movie Bane’s mask doesn’t give him Venom it treats severe pain he deals with from a permanent injuries to his body and face, hence why he he says it would be painful but it probably wouldn’t kill him.

Uh...in case others didn't say or you didn't realize this by the end of the movie, Selina is not in disguise. Her being a "cat burgular" is public record hence why she wants the "clean slate program". She has no need for a cowl or mask whatever, what she wears is entirely functional for what she needs to do ( eg. her "cat ears" are her goggles, her "mask" is to protect her face/skin when using said goggles, not as a disguise, everyone can see its Selina), minus of course the loose hair, that one's a fair criticism. Note she is never refered to with an alias (Catwoman or "the Cat"), everyone knows she's Selina Kyle, a criminal with a record.

About selinas cowl. I think that this design is inspired by her design in the 60s adam west batman tv show. While i also am a fan aof selina with a cowl, i think that it wouldnt have looked right on Anne Hathaway. I still like the design but it did throw me off and some really casual watchers in other reactions I have seen even mistook her for batgirl.

Bruce retired from age catching up to him (having him almost resort to using a pistol in desperation) to set up Batman Beyond, as well. The difference here is how relatively young he was when he tried to retire, and that he'd only been active a couple of years.

What I loved about this is how they used the Lazarus Pits in a realistic way for the trilogy by combining it with Bane's Santa Prisca prison, but not Santa Prisca obviously. Ra's al-Ghul's immortality rose from the pit in the form of his own progeny.

I don't think this version of Bruce is putting Rachel above Batman, I think that he put so much into Batman the only real tangible thing he had outside of Batman was his relationship with Rachel, and losing her, and the ability to be Batman, he had nothing, no direction for his life. That's why he ends this movie so much happier. Selena shows him he can have a life outside of Batman, and her knowing of his alter ego and to some extent having one herself allows them to be closer then he ever could be with Rachel.

14:15 -- Bruce injured his leg in the same fall that killed Harvey Dent. The scene with the doctor is hilarious, but there was a line cut that would've confirmed it. - "I've seen worse cartilage in knees." "That's good!" "No. That's because there is NO cartilage in your knees. And not much of any use in your elbows or your shoulders. Between that and the scar tissue on your kidneys, the residual concussive damage to your brain tissue, and the general scarred-over quality of your body, I cannot recommend that you go Heli-Skiing. About the only part of you that looks healthy is your liver, so if you're wanting to pick up a new hobby, I might suggest drinking, Mr. Wayne."

@Rocket1377
@Rocket1377 Жыл бұрын
That's definitely what they were going for. The idea of Catwoman wearing a black catsuit with a domino mask originated in the 1960s tv show, and that iconic and influential outfit was almost entirely designed by actress Julie Newmar. In the comics, Selina originally wore a purple dress with a cowl and a green cape, and she didn't don the catsuit until decades later.

The Dark Knight Rises is basically a mash-up of the Knightfall and No Man’s Land comic storylines. Bane is NOT typically associated with the League of Assassins anywhere other than in this movie. He is a highly intelligent character in the comics, but rarely portrayed that way elsewhere. He is also ethnically Latino. I find Tom Hardy’s take interesting in his own right. Catwoman’s design here is heavily influenced by older ones, which often had free-flowing hair. It especially reminds me of her look in the ‘60s TV show. This is my favorite live-action version of the character. I quite agree that Bruce’s hang-up on Rachel is a bit ridiculous. She doesn’t exist in the comics at all and I have never understood why they created her rather than using one of Bruce’s established flames. The recent TV show Gotham Knights unfortunately did something similar, giving Bruce an adopted son who is an original character despite him already having like half a dozen kids the fans love.
@windowsVD
@windowsVD Жыл бұрын
Not entirely true. Bane has been associated with The League of Assassins in the comics, with Batman: Bane of the Demon being an example. In that storyline, Bane ends up becoming Ras Al Ghul’s right-hand man and the top candidate to become Ras’s successor, but he is deemed a failure after being defeated by Batman once again.
@windowsVD
@windowsVD Жыл бұрын
Also, Bruce being hung up on Rachel actually makes perfect sense once you realize that this version of Bruce, just like most other versions of the character, is quite emotionally immature and stunted. I remember watching someone else’s review of these films and he noted that it was odd how Bruce comes across as almost a little child-like in some of his interactions with Rachel. I honestly think this was completely intentional to show how emotionally immature Bruce was, as the death of his parents severely stunted his emotional development. We can see that he has difficulty forming connections with new people given how depressingly small his inner circle is, which comprises pretty much of only Alfred, Rachel and Fox. Given that Rachel was his childhood sweetheart since before his parents died, it makes sense that in adulthood, he would have an overly idealistic view of her as a person. After their agreement at the end of Batman Begins, Bruce naïvely believed that she would wait for him and be there for him no matter how extreme his actions got, so he’s basically put her on almost an impossibly high pedestal. This was brought up quite a few times in The Dark Knight, where Rachel tells him not to make her his only hope for a normal life, and even writes in her letter “if you lose your faith in me, please keep your faith in people.” The way Bruce dealt with his grief over Rachel in The Dark Knight Rises honestly reminded me a lot of how Bruce dealt with his parents’ death in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which was also written to show how tragically stunted and immature Bruce was on an emotional level. In TDKR, he was punishing himself by not moving on because he felt that he didn’t deserve to, as he was still holding himself beholden to an agreement that he made with Rachel 9 years ago, not knowing that Rachel herself was going to break said agreement before she died. In MOTP, Bruce felt guilty over his newfound desire to move on and live a normal life because he was still holding himself beholden to a promise that he made in his parents’ grave when he was a child, believing that his parents would be disappointed if he actually moved on and stopped being Batman. That’s why to me, the way Bruce was still grieving over Rachel in TDKR honestly felt in-character to Batman in a lot of ways

Anyone else thrown off when Gotham looks different in each of these films? Went from Gotham City to Chicago, and now New York mixed with Pittsburgh and L.A. Also I hated how "grounded" as people say Nolan made these films as to me it just striped away the identity of Gotham City. Batman's suit as well was pretty mixed for me in the later films so yeah idk. Feel more like Crime films with Batman in them rather than Batman films like Batman Begins.
@vengeance1939

That's a common compliant. Both Gotham having no real solid look throughout these films to the whole idea of Nolan grounding these films too much in that they start to effect the mythos of Batman or the visual take on certain characters and locations. Agree that Batman Begins overall felt more like a Batman film. Man of Steel has the same problem but less so compared to the Batman films. The Batman was a great mix of both showcasing the more grounded Year One, Long Halloween inspired setting while still keeping the Gothic retro feel of Gotham City.

Bane was always an intelligent character in the comics. I won’t spoil anything but yea. In an era where people complain about comic accuracy and representation in the same debate, it’s crazy that Bane, Ra’s and Talia were all white washed. Oh and yea Ra’s has and always will want a Male to run the LOA because if his daughter went 1 on 1 with somebody like Bane or Batman she’d die so it would make sense for one of them to lead it. Cat woman has had many different looks. To just wearing the mask. Having the mask and cat ears. Having a cowl of her own. Black suits, grey suits. I think sometimes people forget how many different adaptations and iterations there are of comic characters that writers and directors take from.
@residentfan1521
@residentfan1521 Жыл бұрын
I think Ra’s and Talia were white washed because the movies came out during the height of the War on Terror and it’d would’ve been messed up to portray the terrorists in the movies as middle eastern. Don’t want to bring more hate onto a group of people who were already being dragged through the mud for the actions of a few. Bane however had no reason to be white washed since he’s Latin American.

14:56 - Divorce her and marry her again right now. I don't know how to say it. Marry her twice. I know you're married. Do it again. This girl is an absolute winner. I've never seen ANYBODY call it out that fast. Holy shit. Even hardcore Batman fans hear "Bane is Ra's Al Ghul's Son" and thinking, "Well, fuck, if Chris Nolan says that's how it is in this universe, I won't question it, they wouldn't do anything ridiculous from the comics..." I KNEW she was picking up on it as soon as she said that something "Miranda Tate" said sounded very familiar... And then Alfred pops up like, "Yeah, like Ra's al Ghul said it!" Dude, this is why people say that all of Christopher Nolan's movies have WILD plot twists in them except for his three Batman films. But that's not true at all, it's just that those wild plot twists are pulled from the source material, so any fan is going to see them coming a mile away. We know that Ra's Al Ghul isn't dead, we know that HarveyDent is Two-Face, and we know that Ra's Al Ghul had daughters, not sons. Watch this movie again, and you'll see for yourself. This movie is TRYING TO TELL YOU that that's Talia literally every chance it gets. Every single line she says in this movie is an echo of something that he said in Begins. "Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of it's decadence, we return to restore the Balance!" "Have you finally learned to do what's necessary?" "I won't kill you. I don't have to save you." "Miranda, I'm sorry, I can't get you out tonight." "Do what's necessary." "You have to invest if you want to restore balance to the world."

This movie is often thought of as one of the most disappointing comic book movies and personally when I first watch did I kind of hated it and years later I still don't really care for it. Honestly this was probably Christopher Nolan's sloppiest film. I think a big part of the problem is built into Christopher Nolan's understanding of this version of Batman is that he doesn't want to be Batman, he wants to end. I mean it's built into the premise The Dark Knight even and so this leads you a lot of problems because the concept of a Batman who doesn't want to be Batman is extremely antithetical to the source this has never been a recurring thing in the comics that Batman doesn't want to be Batman, that he's looking for reasons to retire. This unfortunately solidifies this version of Batman as just a Nolan character and not really an adaptation of the comic book character of Batman. The film despite wanting to take a more "realistc" approach with Batman than traditionally deoicted suffers from too many leaps in logic such as Bruce Wayne miraculously arriving back in Gotham after escaping his underground prison, GCPD officer John Blake (who shouldn't have been Robin) happening to know that Wayne is Batman, and Bane’s lair being beneath Wayne Tower’s armory without Wayne or Lucius Fox knowing to name a few. One of the most multifaceted and glaring problems come with Tom Hardy’s Bane, who, admittedly is literally nothing like his comic book counterpart whatsoever and is also extremely disappointing as a character. Everything from his voice has always been the subject of heavy criticism for being too hard to take seriously and a mefiocre design, his changed nationality (Bane is Hispanic in the comics), his motivation, his background and his origin is entirely different to the point where it might as well be a different character. The film is also undermined by Bane’s less than underwhelming downfall in two major ways. The twist that Miranda Tate is actually Talia al Ghul instantly negates Bane’s impact because all the credit for the masterplan is taken away from Bane, making him little more than a thug who has been acting, not out of greed or revolutionary zeal, but because he was told by his leader. Essentially, he’s reduced to a bodyguard/subordinate for the sake of having one of the most obvious and underwhelming plot twists in superhero cinematic history. As is, it falls flat, and so does Bane’s arc upon completion, especially since he’s easily killed off by Catwoman a minute later. I really wasn't a huge fan of this interpretation of Talia. Talia (when writen properly) is not a straight-up villain and she is more morally ambiguous and genuinely loves Batman however she is very loyal to her father and his mission despite not agreeing with his dystopic methods. I always prefer Talia to be more morally ambiguous than just a straight-up villain. On that note, Tate’s deceitful role as Btaman’s new love interest doesn’t work, either. Not only is there little if any chemistryIn the film between Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard, but their love scene seems downright illogical and artificial because Wayne just spent eight years as a hermit due to losing Rachel Dawes in. Yes, Alfred encouraged him to move on, and it’s certainly possible that he’d recover from such grief. The ending is a tad contrived as well, at least in execution. Some fans might have felt that things wrap up too neatly by having Blake discover the Batcave. At the same time, however, the reveal that Blake’s first name is Robin feels tacked on for fan service. It can’t help but make your eyes roll, as does the closing scene in which Alfred sees Wayne and Kyle at the French café. As for Anne Hathaway as Catwoman it honestly just feels like another actress playing Catwoman. I never buy it when she plays the more villainous side of the character and it doesn't seem like it's intentional either. It's honestly just kind of bland.

You were warned this film would be extremely painful for you... but in a good way. Bane is meant to be sophisticated, nearly as smart as Bruce. That's the paradox of the character I enjoy- a man who appears to be a 'roided hulk in a gimp mask but talks like he was educated at Yale. This one adds another paradox; the morphine mask often makes him sound weirdly happy and cheerful even while ordering the merciless execution and torture of others.

People are going to be mad but I think Bale was greatly miscast as Batman but is a solid Bruce Wayne. I don't get how he was casted in the role, Well I do he's the spitting imagine of a Bruce Wayne but I feel like they went "OMG he looks like Bruce Wayne this cast him" and then just forgot all about the fake he needs to play Batman besides those Batman screen tests. But he does knock Bruce Wayne out of the park I just can't really get into his Batman, weakest part of these films. I would 100% watch a show about Bale as Bruce Wayne no Batman just Bruce Wayne lol

See this is how I feel about Robert as Batman. Honestly it’s how I feel about the entire cast of the Batman. A lot of them are great actors but to me they all feel like exactly what they are, actors playing pretend. As far as the Nolan movies go I think they’re the best adaptation and representation of these characters in LA. They’re not perfect but they do better in more aspects of Batman than any other film. You think part of the reason you don’t like Bale as Batman is because he’s more of a side character in the last two films? I don’t like his voice in the sequels and there’s a few disconnects I have with the character but, again, to me he’s better than what we had before and what we’ve had since.

Something about Bruce moving on & looking for reasons to not have to be batman was what really soured this trilogy for me.

The man who broke the bat! But over all, great performances by all actors, still has too much issues to be my favourit Batman movie. (Still hate the growling, and some stupid things like how the cops chose Gordon to lead them, Talia, and the "robin" twist) But Tom is a really good Bane, he's easily my favourit in the whole movie. I could talk about my issues with this Batman, and why is he never goning to be my favourit, but that's not what i'm here for. Even if we state that this is the weakest in the trilogy, it's still not a bad movie. Also if you watch Batman 1989 be sure to look for similarities to Btas.

Nolan got rid of all fantasy elements of batman. Bane doesn't use venom in the Nolan movies

When you have a cliff hanger like where the dark knight leaves off with the police chasing Batman and this is what Nolan gives us, this script anyways kicks me in the balls whenever I watch it. By far the worst portrayal of Alfred ever. He would never just leave crying like a baby. Also Bruce's parents were murdered in front of him which started his vigilante crusade so him retiring because Rachel died made no sense. The dark knight returns had way better reasons to explain Batmans retirement. This movie bastardized that comic in my opinion. I find banes voice hilarious not intimidating at all but tom hardy is pretty good in this. The grand scope feel they try for the second half of the movie is admirable. Although Talia's portrayal is awful in this too in my opinion, worst movie death ever.

Agreed. Did Tom Hardy not even bother to research the character? He's supposed to be South American, not British. That accent/voice he gave him doesn't make Bane seem intelligent at all, he sounds dumb, and difficult to understand at times.

I do thinking Rachel is the worst element of this trilogy. It's almost like Nolan didn't understand how to write a woman.

I prefer Rachel to Talia al Ghul. That is by far the worst version of Talia, and her death scene is embarrassing and poorly acted.
