Pretty work Sir, the more I use, and watch your videos, the more I’m getting convinced that the Meiji spray gun line is probably the best value for money spray guns on the market. They are simply “top notch “. Thank you Sir

Hi Bryan, I would agree 100% with you about the Meiji guns, I have a fair few now, and there are no bad or average ones amongst them. Excellent quality. I appreciate the comments, buddy, cheers 👍

Great video 👌, i'm a car painter and i agree with you bike parts are much more difficult because like you say curves and angles you have to conform too when spraying.
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi Jimmy, I thought I would mention it as a fair few people have assumed, when talking to me, that there's less to bikes, simply because the painted surface area is normally less I presume. These are normally people that watch some of my videos, often bike related, but they have a car or car parts to do so they are trying to relate what I'm doing to what they want to do if that make sense. Guys like yourself and most others that do a lot of painting will already know this. With the bikes, you often get multiple colour schemes, decals, very flexible parts that need good preparation, flex additive, and thin application of product to stop cracking and very fussy customers 😆, cheers mate, appreciate the comments 👍

Hi Pete, amazing job on the tank mate the chap that you did it for cant complain about the attention to detail and all the effort you put into it👌did you give it a flow coat Pete🤔 that gun really put the base and clear on very nice especially the clear as it looked very flat plus it didn't seem to put out much overspray👍 I now have all my panels so I have 10 wings and 5 tanks, I got the Yamaha plastic tank cover and a complete plastic tank which is a Triumph and 2 other metal ones which are a Yamaha and a Honda and they are all in really good condition🤓😎 I'm now looking to get some Speed Shapes to practice a different type of paint on which someone is helping me with and if it all works out it will look quite nice🤞🧐😂thanks Pete👍
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi John, Yes, he was happy with it, I didn't flow coats it as he didn't think it was necessary after seeing it, Yamaha don't so maybe that had something to do with it. Sounds like you've been busy getting your new stuff together. It will be interesting to see what you come up with, cheers, mate 👍

You certainly cant deny that Meiji guns are well made with quality components and I don't know how they keep their prices low compared to other guns of the same quality🤔 you must be back home now mate from your travels so I hope it all went ok and you had a nice time, back to good old cold UK🥶😂 What I'm hoping to do isn't new or anything ground breaking but it's a new process for me using Chrome and candies along with water based paint and even a water based high gloss clear, I don't think I'll be doing it before Xmas just have to see how it goes🙄😟👍
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
@JohnWD40TC02 Candy over a chrome would look good, I would think, depending on color, but purple is best on that imo 😁. Be interesting to see the water-based clear. People I've spoken to say they aren't there yet, to be honest, I'm not sure they ever will, certainly seems that way with many paint products, cheers mate, looking forward to seeing what you come up with 👍

Fantastic looking finish! You really have mastered the Upol, Pete. Ironic, but also perfect timingwith the tid bit of info on flow coating. I needed that as I'm in the middle of prepping to put on a layer on top of smoothly sanded 2082 (2080 UK). I'm estimating a LPH400 LV4 1.4 should be ideal to get it flat as possible off the gun. Now I know to attempt only a single coat to accomplish this Keep the videos coming!
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi Boss, it did come out well, and that's with the x fast hardener, which does drop back a little the next day. Yes, a full single coat over a sanded clear base gives the flattest possible finish. As I was saying, you already have enough thickness of clear on there for UV protection, so one is perfectly fine, cheers mate 👍

Pete, did you ever try out the ASTRO gun I recommended and that you ordered some time ago? I've been waiting for the video and was wondering what you thought.
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi mate, Yes, I did, I ended up getting the blue and gold ones, and I will get a video up soon, but I've been really impressed with them. Build is good as are the results, I lent one to a friend who has many top guns and he's was so amazed he ordered one as well, his words were, "sprays as good as my Sata X5500 RP and WS400 Series 2 at a 7th of the price"

Nice video Pete. Quick question - have you ever had a problem with the Decals / stickers either lifting or bubbling? The reason for the question is that recently I did a tank and used the same stickers that you have used in this vid. I didn't spray the clear straight away, it was a couple of days after and the stickers had started to have some bubbling. I can only imagine that because of the cold temperatures I was working in, solvent in either the Epoxy primer or High build primer or base coat (either of them of a combination of all three) hadn't evaporated, which caused the bubbling. It was only for a bike I was selling, so lived with it and the buyer barely noticed it, but if it had been a customers tank, I would have had to re=do it. Cheers Jono
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi Jono, that will often happen it you leave it any length of time, really, you should clear the base coat as soon as it's dry, certainly no more than a few hours as the base coat losses it "live" status so the clear doesn't adhere properly and will often start to peel in a few months time. I appreciate when we have other things to do we can't always do it all in one go, in that case do the base coat, leave it without decals, then either grey scotchbright it or put a coat of basecoat binder over it. The basecoat binder livens up the base coat again, then let it dry, apply your decals, and clear it straight after. The scotchbright method I don't like as something you can see a little under the clear, most won't, but you will see it, hope that helps, cheers buddy 👍

Where does the air consumption land on this one Pete? Thanks for the video!
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi Jordan, Meiji quotes it around 7.0 cfm at 29psi, so it's not high but not frugal for a mini gun, although it's more a midi than a mini

Pete you make very good and informative videos on this subject well done. A question please regarding 2k paints. Do you have to use 2k thinners with these paints or will normal thinners do the same job. Cheers.
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi Larro, 2k thinners is just a word for virgin thinners, so it hasn't been reclaimed, so as long as you use a virgin thinners you will be fine. Normal thinners can mean a few things. It can mean it is recycled stuff, but it's often used to describe the speed of the thinners, so you have fast, normal or standard and slow. All thinners will work with 2k paint but recycled stuff offen has impurities in it so you can get little silicone type spots, so is best avoided
