I am a recent fan and am near 60 years old. Was recently introduced to Periphery by a younger guy I work with, I had no prior exposure to "progressive metal", Im a Mettalica, Ozzy, Foo, etc guy. I think it's the lack of effects they have in the video, it's really hard to sound the way he does in the beginning of Reptile on the album without lots of compression etc but I only noticed that myself when I covered a few of their songs (check it out if you want). In the heavier parts it's not that hard though because the belting compresses your voice on its own..

Dude.... No pitch correction on the vocals. Serious respect for that, really takes so much courage as it's incredibly rare right now, especially as the modern BMTH style rock sound is defined by heavily processed vocals.
