When I see "That was boring" I'm interpreting it as "I don't understand." And I agree. You don't. This guy's propensity for atmosphere is remarkable, and his accuracy and attention to dynamics are outstanding. It's not always about blazing chops (which I get the distinct impression this guy has in spades, and yet has the wisdom not to barrage us with through the entire performance.) He gets my vote every time.

It takes some knowledge to understand what happens here. Morten knows he is playing for musicians. But when you know about dynamics, tone, Touch and so on, this becomes more a demonstration of what you can when you master your technique

To everyone who says this is boring, you lack the musical maturity to appreciate the touch and finesse in this video, and if you don't like my comment, just remember this guy is a working musician, with endorsements, from playing jazz....and you aren't :)

Everyone has different likes and tastes in music and musicianship, but clearly, this guy indeed KNOWS how to play. If you think this guy is boring, your entitled to have your own opinion on the subject, but I believe the genereal concensus is that the dude did a fantastic job! Kudos to him.

This is a prime example of beautiful music on the drumset. Drums are a delicate instrument, with endless possibilities for playing not only rhythms, but also melodies. A Powerful dynamic performance by the great Morten Lund. I've seen him play live, and it is absolutely stunning and hypnotic. This is one of the reasons I am in love with Meinl cymbals: they appreciate many different styles of drumming, and support different approaches to music. Byzance cymbals are spectacular tools for experimenting all kinds of new and exciting ways to play the drums, for they have that powerful yet beautiful elegance that cymbals should have in order for this kind of performance to happen. Oh and also Morten is a genuinely nice guy and an amazing person, his true love and appreciation for music really shows in everything he does ! :)

I was there and Saw it Live. I don't know what it. was, but i thought then that it was boring and not my thing. Seeing it now I have a deeper connect with the video and his performance and I'm more interested in this now. Maybe it was the day or me being tired when seeing this live, but now it's like a completely different video. His playing is really good and he is phenomenal.

to those who says it's boring.... I really don't know how this is boring. yeah slow start. but. amazing details and controls. and very expressive too. to say that's boring, you are only degrading your drum skill.
@penkatadrums11 жыл бұрын
im pretty sure that was the boringest way to show off your details and control... please, if you are a drummer. listen to this whole 16 minutes solo, and then go to your kit and try to play just 10 seconds out of it... just 10 seconds. you cant, because there isnt anything to this solo to be remembered, i didnt hear one phrase or detail that was musical enought to be remembered... sorry :( i may be degrading my drum skills, but i value my overall musical skills much more...! anyway... merry christmas! :)

Jon this guy could take drummers apart with his mad skills, but chooses to deliver a musical performance instead of the same old 'lets play double kick as quick a possible' routine,,,now THOSE routines are boring

Will Richards no man, that really WAS boring... even i gave up 2 minutes into it... there was nothing musical to this performance, only mad fines and coordination, but really boring... if you want to hear something musical, check out benny greb's stuff... still no "double kick as quick as possible" but when i listen to benny greb time stops... when i listen to this guy, every minute seems like eternity... :) merry christmas

Will Richards There's a video of ?uestlove vs Travis Barker on youtube from 2008 and the top comment was "Travis Barker is an amazing drummer, But ?uest love is an amazing musician." And I think that's what we have going on is here: not an amazing drum solo, but an amazing musical piece.
@prizefighter760711 жыл бұрын
Will Richards Amendment: the further into the video you watch the more solo it becomes.

It's jazz. It supposed to be boring and extraordinary at the same time.
@kite010511 жыл бұрын
Woah! Look how ambient and redundant I can be by hitting random shit and using the same basic jazz style on the ride then spaz out of the toms in a random pattern.. This new KZbin shit is stupid and to the two people to said go listen to Travis barker or do blast beats as fast as I can, can go fuck off listen to Gavin Harrison and be truly entertained and amazed by his musical skill.. And honestly ignorant people need to stop ripping on Travis barker.. I'd like to see those people play his fills or with the level of intensity that he does.. This guy is an over rates ambient jazz player. I can spazz out on time as we'll but that doesn't make me a good drummer.

@imacashew.8 жыл бұрын
Jon Burns Ok Jon. A couple things. 1. Your wording and general attitude for disliking this makes you sound a little butt hurt and salty that you don't get to play for thousands of people and have endorsements. 2. "Spaz out on the toms in a random pattern" "Random pattern" just think about those two words together for a second. Now, once you understand how to use rudiments in drumming and fills and then play them repetitively to make a musical phrase you'll understand that there is exactly NOTHING "random" about this instrument. Every note is deliberately placed for a purpose.
