Roland Szentpali talks about which Melton-Meinl Weston instruments he's using and also explains why. The last mentioned model does not have a Melton- Meinl Weston engraving ;-) Recorded in Geretsried on May 11th, 2011

His work and practice to get where he has, has been long completed. Him performing is what keeps it all intact

I got to touch one of those 6/4 Weston tubas once, then I realized it was worth more than me.

Playing the Fountains of Rome excerpt memorized on both BB flat and CC tubas was impressive. You really gotta know the piece to be able to do that.

Thanks for sharing, Roland. I enjoyed hearing you play and thought your comparison of BBb versus CC tubas was well articulated. Thanks again.

Wow! You made the serpent sound awesome! Well done! :) I'm looking for videos featuring the 5450 Thor. Know where I could find any?

Thank you for the comparison of BBb and CC. I have been considering the purchase of a new instrument and possibly switching to a CC but I'll never be an orchestra player, so I'll stick with the BBb. I love the F tuba; I'm a big fan of Wilfried Brandstetter. And thanks for the serpent demo; as a saxophone player I feel a certain sympathy for the lizard family.

If your going into college you all but need to buy a CC tuba. A B flat tuba will not suffice for most things.

@metallica2014 He is telling it at 8:20. It's the excerps from Fountains of Rome by Ottorino Respighi.

Wow, this is brilliant. In the part where he compares the CC tuba and the BBb, the difference is like night and day. I think I'll always be partial to the sound of a Bb tuba, however. Even for solo stuff, I think the big, fat sound really matches the tone qualities of a conical bore instrument more accurately. The CC instrument sounds nearly like a cimbasso or a contrabass trombone with its "poppy" sound characteristics, compared to the more mellow and full sound of the Bb variety.

Most definitely Fountains

I have a dented up Yorkmaster silver plated E flat tuba and I love playing it but I wish I had b flat to play .., that would be so cool.to get really low dark tones..so expensive though .....

Tubas. Plural. The thumbnail has probably around $30000 at least in tubas.

+Bone-Tone Lord Dude... his CC costs 30000 alone. The others are more in the 10-20k range.

The MW 6450 sounds and looks GREAT! But the price is far out of my budget.

@2badude how does he play high, air speed. That's all it comes down to. If you can put the air fast enough through your horn, then your range is literally limitless.

I went to college many years ago as a bassoon player but recently took up tuba. All of my playing with tuba is concert band or jazz, however the F tuba intrigues me for Jazz.

Quite right, TubaWorld. Sorry. Easy to get them mixed up! I heard him say "Fountains", but posted the comment a bit later, by which time I'd remembered the wrong piece. Ooops!
