The only argument they could make would be based on age and "potential" As Cam Ward is 22 and a senior. But Cam Ward's tape to me is clearly better from what i've seen. Also lots of the older QBs drafted have been performing well, Box Nix has been solid, I believe Jayden Daniels was a senior as well. I think it's becoming clear that QBs staying in college an extra year if they need it has been beneficial especially with last years QB crop.

I thought that too until I saw JJ in camp. His improvement from day one was very impressive. Many were speculating he might even start game one had he not gotten hurt. His work ethic was awesome and it showed in his improved footwork, accuracy, and understanding of the playbook. He made an incredible jump from rookie mini camp to training camp and his arm strength was impressive from day one. Above all though, KOC said he knows they have their QB of the future in McCarthy after he got hurt.

As a Vikings fan, I hope he can develop, but but I thought Penix was way better. Put him on that Michigan team in ‘23 and they cruise their way to the title. No way JJ is better than those other two. Never. Of the top two in this draft + Penix, JJ would be a heavy fourth.

The last time I watched this show, about a month ago, I had Sanders and Ward as the top 2 QB's, and everybody got on my case about it. Many had the Beck from Georgia and Milroe from Bama ahead of them, and all 3 ahead of Ward. Including Kiper and Yates. I also had Gabriel as my 5th QB, and no one was talking about him and had him much lower behind a ton of other QB's.

You are right Greeny, there is NO WAY the Vikings trade JJ. KOC absolutely loves him! He improved tremendously during camp and fits in this offense perfectly. His work ethic, improved footwork, and strong arm really impressed everyone in camp. After JJ got injured, KOC told the local media that “he knows has his QB of the future” in McCarthy. Darnold is very good and KOC and the fans really like him, but everyone in the organization knows JJ is their future and Sam will be the top free-agent QB and a 3rd comp pick for Minnesota. The only way this changes is if Minnesota gets to the SB with Sam.

I just can’t disagree enough with the Cam Ward scouting report these two are doing. He is him. Has the starting experience (50+ starts) has gotten better every year, and has all the physical abilities. And, he is cool as a cucumber, ya can’t teach that. Ward is the top QB and I have him ranked higher than Caleb Williams was last year just below Jaden Daniels due to he is not as dynamic with his legs.

Let me breakdown why Mel isn’t comfortable with JJ. He had basically a record low pass attempts per game, for a 1st round QB in the modern era. Why? Because he had NFL level analysts breaking down the defense pre snap and telling him what run play to audible to, whenever the situation wasn’t ideal for passing. They tell him through the headset what to look for and what to audible to… so his passing attempts were only at times when it was Easiest to throw. He won’t get that in the NFL. He’s gotta throw against elite DBs and his running game won’t be the juggernaut it was in college. He does have one of the best supporting casts, but you still don’t have a lot of data on how he operates when he has to force the throw 40 times.
