How do you know that was the reason or are you assuming? He had suffered bad depression. I'm not saying that you're wrong,i don't know. But if that's true, it couldve been the reason he got more depressed and didn't want to live.

mel loved his family. when he wasnt at work he was home with the family. in treatment for alcoholism with periods of depression, he was prescribed antidepressant medication which was later known to cause suicidal thoughts. still miss him.
