Composed by Mel in 1946 with Robert Wells. Mel offered it to Nat King Cole that same year and Nat had a hit with this classic Christmas song, Nat's version going to #3 on the Billboard Hit Parade on November-December 1946. Nat rerecorded it again in 1953, and yet again in 1961 in Capitol Records Full Dimensional Stereo. Mel himself has revived this song several times since 1946 for the rest of his career. This recording of "The Christmas Song" was recorded in 1954 for Coral Records by Gene Norman, who would form the legendary GNP/Crescendo label, today run by his son Neil Norman.
