தமிழில் ஏன் சொல்லிக் கொடுக்க கூடாது?! நம் தாய்மொழியில் பேசுவதற்கு நாம் தயங்குவது ஏனோ?! பாட்டிலும் ஒன்று இரண்டு என்று சொல்லலாம். நீங்கள் இருக்கும் அந்த ஊரில் அவர்களும் அவர்கள் தாய்மொழியிலல்லவா பேசுகின்றனர்?! இதை ஆக்கபூர்வமாக எடுத்துக்கொள்வீர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். நீங்கள் சொல்லிக் கொடுப்பது நன்றாக உள்ளது ஆனால் அது இந்த ஆங்கில மொழியினால் அதன் மெருகை இழக்கின்றது

Namaskaram Sir! Thanks for your feedback. Carnatic music tradition is being practised by all the Southern states of India. Raga Surabhi has been followed by a large number of people who speak different languages like Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam etc as their mother tongue. As far as this project is concerned, we have involved kids who do not speak Tamil (their mother tongue is one of the other South Indian languages), so I have to necessarily speak in English. I am sure you will appreciate......Thanks for your support and encouragement to the kids!

@@ragasurabhi உங்கள் பதிலுக்கு சந்தோஷம்! நான் எழுதுவதை தவறாக எடுத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டாம். உங்களை கட்டாயப்படுத்த நான் ஒருவனுமில்லை. ஆனால் நீங்களே எழுதியது போல "கர்னாடக சங்கீத கலாசாரம் (tradition) தென் இந்தியாவில் பயிலப்படுகிறது" இது ஒரு "கலாசாரம்". கலாசாரம் என்பது மொழியை ஒரு முக்கிய அங்கமாக உடையது. உதாரணத்திற்கு பெரும்பாலான இந்திய மொழியில் "உயர்திணை" "அஃறிணை" என்று திணை இலக்கியம் உண்டு. அது உயர்ந்தவர்களுக்கு நாம் கொடுக்கும் மரியாதை என்கிற கலாசாரத்தின் வெளிப்பாடு. இன்றும் ஒருவரை ஏகவசனத்தில் பேசினால் அதை அவமதிப்பு என்று கொள்வர். அதனால், நம் கலாசாரத்தின் நுண்ணிய நெளிவு சுளிவுகள் நம் மொழியில் மட்டுமே ப்ரஹாசிக்கும் அல்லவா? இரண்டாவதாக நீங்கள் சொன்னது இன்னமும் வருத்தமளிக்கிறது. தமிழ், தெலுகு, கன்னடா, மலயாளம் முதலியவற்றில் ஒன்றை தாய்மொழியாகக் கொண்டவர்களுக்கு அவர்களின் தாய் மொழி தெரியாத நிலையில் நாம் இன்று உள்ளது எவ்வளவு வருத்தத்தக்க செயல்? இதை நாம் நம்மை அறியாமலேயெ ஊக்கப்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம் அல்லவா? ஒன்று, இரண்டு, மூன்று என்பதற்கும், ஒன்னு, ரெண்டு, மூனு என்பதற்கும், ஒகடி, ரெண்டு, மூடு என்பதற்கும், ஒந்து, இரடு, மூரு என்பதற்கும் பெரிய வித்தியாசமில்லை என்பதை நாம் எல்லோருமே அறிவோம். நம் கலாசாரத்தை நம் பண்பாடு சரியாக தெரிந்து கொள்ள வாய்ப்பில்லாத மேலை நாடுகளிலேயே பிறந்து வளரும் குழந்தைகளுக்கு கொடுப்பதனால் வரும் ஆபத்தை நீங்கள் உணரவில்லை என்று நினைக்கிறேன். சமீபத்தில், மேலை நாடுகளில் பிறந்து கர்நாடக சங்கீதம் கற்று, திறைப்படத்தில் பின்னணி பாடல் பாடும் ஒருவர், சென்னையில் மார்கழி மாதத்தில் கச்செரியில் நாராசமான திறைப்படப்பாடல் ஒன்றை பாடினார். அவரைக் கேட்டால் "இதில் என்ன? இதுவும் கர்நாட்கா சங்கீதம்தானே" என்பார் என்பது எனக்கு தெரியும்... ஆனால் ஒரு காலத்திலும், நம் முன்னோர்கள் அதை ஏற்கமாட்டார்கள். அண்மையிலும் கூட ஸ்ரீ பாலமுரளி க்ருஷ்ணா அவர்கள், பல திறைபடப்பாடல்களை பாடி இருந்தாலும், ஜனரஞ்சகத்திற்காக ஒரு நாளும் திறைப்பட பாடலை கச்சேரி மேடையில் பாடியது கிடையாது. நான் சொல்ல வருவது, ஐந்தில் வளையாதது அம்பதில் வளையாது. ஆதாலால், நீங்கள் சொல்லிக் கொடுக்கும் குழந்தைகளுக்கு அவர்களின் தாய் மொழியிலோ தமிழ் மொழியிலோ சொல்லிக் கொடுப்பது நம் கலாசாரத்தையும் சேர்த்து தன்னடையே கற்றுக் கொடுக்கும் என்று நீங்கள் ஒத்துக் கொள்வீர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்!! ஆங்கில விரோதி அல்ல நான். அது வணிகத்திற்கான மொழி. அது அறிவது அவசியம். ஆனால் பாரம்பரிய கலைகளை அந்தந்த கலாசாரத்தினோ பின்னிப் பிணைந்த மொழியில் கற்பதல்லவா உத்தமம். இன்னும் சொல்லப்போனால், எத்தனையோ தமிழில் பாடும் வித்வாங்களுக்கும் கூட தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம், மலையாளம் கீர்த்தனைகளை பாடும் பொழுது அதன் அர்த்தம் தெரியாமல் தானே பாடுகின்றனர்? சாஹித்யம் முழுவதும் தமிழ் அல்லாத மொழியில் இருந்தாலும் கற்பதில்லையா என்ன? அதனாலே, நீங்கள் சொல்லிக் கொடுக்கும் இந்த பாடத்திலும் "சாஹித்யத்தில்" தமிழில் ஒன்று இரண்டு மூன்று என்றிருந்தால் அதனால் கற்பவர்களின் கல்விதிறன் பாதிக்கப்படாது அல்லவா? அப்படி முடியவில்லை என்றால், ஒன், டூ, த்ரீ இல்லாமலேயே அந்த ராகங்களின் பெயர்களைச் சொல்லிக் கொடுக்கலாமே!! ட்விங்கிள் ட்விங்கிள் லிட்டில் ஸ்டாரை அந்தந்த தேசத்தின் மொழியிலும் பாணியிலும் பாடினால்தான் சிறப்பு. அந்த கருத்து பிடித்திருக்குமேயானால், அதை போலவே பொருளுள்ள தமிழ் பாடல்களை இயற்றி நம் இசையில் பாடுவது தான் சிறந்தது அல்லவா? அதை விடுத்து, அந்த ஆங்கில பாடலை அவர்கள் போலவே அவர்கள் மொழியில் பாடி, ஒரு நன்னாளில், விளக்கை அணைத்து கொண்டாடும் கலாசாரத்தை அல்லவா நாம் நம்மை அறியாமல் உள்ளே புகுத்துகிறோம். விளக்கு அணைவது என்பது நம் கலாசாரத்தை பொருத்தமட்டில் அமங்கலமான ஒன்றல்லவா?! உங்களுக்கு இருக்கும் சங்கீத ஜ்ஞானத்தில் இதை புரிந்து கொள்வீர்கள் என்றும், உங்கள் வயதின் காரணமாக உங்களுக்கு இருக்கும் பக்குவத்தில் இதை புரிந்து கொள்வீர்கள் என்றும் நினைத்து இதை எழுதுகிறேன். நம் நாட்டில் குழந்தைகள் பல இந்த சங்கீதம் கற்றுக் கொள்ள ஆசையோடு இருந்தும் அவர்களுக்கு தமிழைத் தவிற ஒன்றும் தெரியாததால் அவர்கள் வழியில்லாமல் போகின்றனர். ஆனால் நாமோ, நம் நாட்டை "வேண்டாம்" என்று விட்டுச் சென்ற வெளிநாட்டில் தங்கி இருக்கும் இந்தியர்களின் குழந்தைகளுக்கு இதை திணிக்க முயல்கிறோம். தனக்கு மிஞ்சித்தானே தானமும் தர்மமும்? ஜெய் ஸ்ரீ ராம்!

@@OurTemples First of all my great appreciation to you Sir on a very great initiative of " Our Temples Our Right Our Pride " which is very much essential in the present day life style of people. I am sure you would not mind my writing in English. I am encouraged to write in English since you have mentioned that you are not against English as a language. I am a Tamilian (my name would surely vouch for that!) but I did not have the good opportunity to learn Tamil as a subject, as I studied in the West........ I need to explain here that West doesn't mean western country, but western state of India..in Maharashtra. But thanks to Tamil being my mother tongue and thanks also to my mother, I learnt to read Tamil comfortably for all and write Tamil uncomfortably for others (Uncomfortable because of lots of spelling mistakes, I mean). Speaking is good enough for me. You may ask me Sir, why this story of mine. It is only to reiterate and reinforce the cause for which you stand for which you have expressed in your response to the episidoes with the young kids making wonderful attempts to learn something new and useful from Team Ragasurabi. I learnt Tamil also because of English. You have rightly said about the need to speak in Mother tongue. We used to do it inspite of not many choosing the same. But we were good fairly in all the four languages that we learnt. We realised that No language was a barrier to learn another language. In fact, it helped to comprehend and connect better. Your pointing out to teach Carnatic music using Tamil is appreciated. But would you not agree that Music has no language?. Krithis, Keerthanas can have lyrics in different languages..may be south Indian languages. But we sing in all the languages thought the words are in different languages. They appear to be one only when we know the meaning as you have pointed out that Onru, Okkate, are the same. That way, even One is syncing with ondru, okkatte....! English grew not because it was restrictive but was inclusive. Today English dictionary has words like karma, mantra from Indian languages and like that from so many other languages. Is that pure English ? This could be a question? So also the question can come, are we speaking pure Tamil ? What we speak today as Tamil (I mean including learned persons like you) , is it pure? The original Tamil , which I have read in articles, is definitely not what we use today in our writings. It has transformed as in other languages by adapting or adopting new usages. So pure language is as pure as we think we are drinking pure water! You have mentioned that English is meant for commercial purposes only. I don't think so. I feel every language can be used for commercial engagements as well. Since you represent our Tamil culture, during the Chola period when commerce was happening, they were using Tamil only ..English was not used. Even today, many countries like Japan, Russia, Germany etc are commercially and economically successful inspite of their not dealing in English. So as you rightly mentioned English is a medium of communication and if it can be used to improve our knowledge, our skills or even culture, there is nothing wrong. I feel that is why you have named your own entity or identity as " Our Temples Our Right Our Pride " in English and not named in Tamil ! There is no charity here. It is only divine service that I see in the initiative of Team Raga Surabhi as well as your Our Temples Our Right Our Pride. The platform of Raga Surabhi is meant for music and music only which has no language barrier as I have been following them since their inception...so many years before (must be a decade or so).
