It's barmy how it all links up - what do you think Madge would've made of it if you'd told her then that this girl with that laugh would, just a few years later, actually end up marrying her (Madge's) future husband's daughter's widower...?? My mum met the actress who plays Melanie at the home office in Croydon my mum said to her you're the one with the hilarious laugh 😆 she said 🤫 she didn't want anyone to recognise her 🤣 my mum said she was lovely and glad she met her 😊😘🥰

She was only in two episodes back then though and then they brought her back a few times for some guest stints...it was a long time before she became a regular and by then the laugh had been toned down quite a bit. I thought this scene was hilarious back in the day and still do now. It's more the reactions of the other characters that make it so funny rather than the laugh.

Was this really 1987? I was sure that Melanie came in around '89/90, so it just shows how long ago I started watching this show. I must have been 9 or 10 in that case. I do wish that they'd put the whole show up for streaming. I know it's a lot of episodes, but I'd watch 3 or 4 a day just to relive the nostalgia.
