Melbourne Central Clock

The Fob watch, designed by Seiko, was given as a gift to the people of Melbourne.
Every hour, on the hour, a marionette display drops down from the bottom of the watch with Australian galahs, cockatoos and two minstrels performing Waltzing Matilda, under the watchful gaze of some koalas.
The video was shot with Canon 60 D, Canon 17-55 f2.8 lens, Sennheiser MKE 400 microphone. The settings used: 1920*1080/25 fps, AWB, f2.8, ISO 200. Then it was processed with Final Cut Pro.

I was watching One the Beach 1959 film and heard just the same tunes in the intro music piece and it made me wonder... because the film was made in Australia and Hollywood stars from the film came to Melbourne! EDIT: Apparently the music performed is called Waltzing Matilda, Australia's best-known bush ballad, and has been described as the country's "unofficial national anthem". The title was Australian slang for travelling on foot (waltzing) with one's belongings in a "matilda" (swag) slung over one's back

I really love this post. Have been living in Melbourne for one year when I was 6/7 years old and went there again for honeymoon in 1997. The clock reminds me on the best times I've ever had in my life. Thank you so much.

I just noticed that the Seiko branding was removed from the watch some time after 2012. Why?

Can anyone explain to me what happened to the clock's chain? Also, the seiko branding has been removed from the face, although a ghost of it remains. It looks tacky.

I love this clock - for 2 years I'd sit right behind its loudspeakers and just relax listening to it when it went off. Every day on my lunch break (I was lucky as I worked about 20 metres from it). :) I've moved to Sydney since, is this wonderful masterpiece still there?

It's funny when Melbourne Central opened around 1991, the place was a megaverse of the senses. I remember watching it's construction via the late 80's when I went to mass via Saint Francis’ Church as a early teen. The construction elevator mostly. That giant watch would stop all passes by in the complex where people would just pause in the name of patriotism with their hands on their hearts etc. Last time I went to MC back in 2017, I'd swear I waited for that watch to go off but it never ever and after multiple attempts in back there. I finally witnessed it again but this time via the consumers, it barely even got a glance for anybody both locals and visitors alike. Too busy to care or a sign of the changing times and decades etc. But I still stood there and watched it go and I felt that the music chimes were not as loud as I remember as not to offend or inconvenience the shoppers either?!! That's messed up and very sad, what happened to us?! Communism that's what sigh...Might as well take it as no one gives a damn anymore...
