I was raving in Adl early 90s but was lucky enough to be in Melb in this period, Every Picture at exhibition centre, Earthcore at Mt Disappointment, Hardware and Smurf Village all come to mind as being memorable at that time.. where was that warehouse in Fitzroy?

I really like the early Melbourne techno dance style, much better than the 'melbourne shuffle' that followed after 2001 (aka running man) and also better than the EDM dance the cool kids were doing from 2010. There's a guy at 3:23 who nails it. Red jumper with a white stripe, dark pants, grey hat, left side of the screen, very similar to my dance style, you only see it for a few seconds but that's all you need. I'm 45 now, but I'd still battle him :)

The smell of cigarettes, sweat and smoke machine that stayed with you all the next day. Your skin felt like vinyl after 8 hours of sweating. And serious ear damage from dancing near the bass speakers for most the night.

Back when Altona was the go to destination for international techno DJs hahahahah
@fletcher9322 жыл бұрын
So I didn't image going to raves at some basketball centre (I think), in Altona Blew my mind when I was about 15 and waiting in the car out side for a ride back to Geelong and I'd see adults in there late 40s / 50s walk out of the joint completely mounted but they had the teenage kids with them all off there faces. What was that other place, was outdoors near Ballarat or out that way. Like a medieval theme park. I remember getting into some costume area and dressing knights helmet and a shield. Was heaps of fun.

Does anyone remember which year Pureflow was at the Melbourne flower centre in Fitzroy? I’m trying to find a list of the DJs that played there back in the day.

I still have the flyer somewhere, it was either Surgeon & James Ruskin, or Luke Slater. I have a feeling it was Surgeon etc because we had to give them a lift back to their hotel on St Kilda Rd, Slater played PF4 which was somewhere else. I think Dave Rankine and Will E played, Coyle would have I suspect as it was Agent Mad.

Pure flow 4 was at the Flower centre Footscray, September 98 first time venue was used. Slater Kazu Kamira, FSOM, Willie… had a back room playing Jungle/DnB and the OG Mitsubishi biccies were still about 🤪. Pure flow 5, Surgeon and James Ruskin was at same venue Sept 00. Mitzi’s unfortunately long gone. ✌️

I started going to raves in 96 here in Sydney. Two complely different scenes i found Melbourne had way better production and music then Sydney been a few hardware parties in 90s wow...I remember a Dave seamen party at the docks what a party that was not sure if that's still around haven't been to Melbourne in years Melbourne was more techno oriented while Sydney was italo housy then it moved to hardcore/gabber alot Dutch djs used to play here sydney was definitely harder sounds then Melbourne
