Melbourne born and bred. I want to move to Adelaide, Melbourne has just gotten too busy. Housing is absolutely unaffordable and it’s cold 10 months of the year. We’ve never completely recovered from the harsh lockdowns. It’s just a difficult place to live.

Thanks for the video, South Australia is one of the driest & warmest places on earth, I have a newly built 4 bedroom, 2 storey house in Adelaide for $140 a week, Government housing which you can't get in Melbourne, a lot of people have a house rather than a flat in government housing in Adelaide... It doesn't have all the people but it's a great city to bring up kids in, we haven't had any rain for 3 years now, pretty dry winters in Adelaide, I was born in Melbourne, but I like the laid back living in Adelaide, it's beaten Melbourne in the most liveable city in Australia 😊

Adelaide Summer. Several nights of over 30c (86f) at MIDNIGHT!!! Adelaide gets dry hot wind from the North.. Easier to cool down in dry hot than humid hot. Melbourne is known to have "4 seasons in one day".. Born in Radelaide, spent 7 years in Melbz, back home and happy..

Im a proud Adelaidean who travels extensively all over the globe and has spent time in many different aussie cities. I love traveling to new places but Adelaide is always such a pleasure to come home to The beaches in adelaide are stunning and so close to the city. The sunsets here are spectacular too, especially in summer. For arts lovers, we have stacks of fetivals, theatre and gigs. Adelaide oval is one of the lost beautiful sports grounds (just ask Pink), and our hills and wine regions are world famous and easily accessible. The food here is world class too! Oh, and the weather is pretty great and definitely better than Melbourne haha. Melbourne is a fun city, but adelaide is a winner for sure ❤

You’re wrong about Adelaide’s beaches it not only has some of the best in Australia it has some of the best in the world. They are also cleaner than Melbourne and Sydney beaches. The further south you go the better the beaches become. And if you are on the beach or up on a hill looking over the ocean you will get the most incredible sunsets almost every night. Also all the beaches are less than 20minutes drive from any suburb. Unlike Sydney and Melbourne where certain suburbs are so far inland many people spend their whole lives never seeing a beach. Oh and no Adelaide does not get 4 seasons in one day like Melbourne. It’s weather is a lot more consistent. Also it has a lot more sunny days than mentioned. However a lot of those days will be partly cloudy. Unlike Melbourne which is generally grey clouds when the sun isn’t shining.

Just to expand on the weather differences. The stats may say only 2-3 degrees difference but if you live in both cities you’ll find out thats a false truth. If those averages are correct it might be worth noting that the warmer temperatures would hit their peak or close to their peak early hold for most of the day then drop off (in Adelaide). In Melbourne it might hit that warm high for an hour then swing around and become a winters day in the middle of summer. Or vice versa as I’ve experienced. Cold winters morning in December. 2 hours later raining hot and humid. 3 hours after that back to winter. Then back to mild and warm for the afternoon. It’s a bit hard to judge what the climates are truly like by numbers on a screen. You really have to live it to understand how wrong these averages make things seem. Also when we get down to the cooler months 15 down to 12 it makes a huge difference even if it’s only 3 degrees. And 25 might be a bit too cool for the beach but 28 isn’t. (Unless you are from England)

Melbourne is overrated and it is a very stressful place to live, too crowded, roads are congested, traffic and has depressive weather! You can’t even enjoy the beach because it’s too cold most of the year. Most people are grumpy and lost. Definitely not a laid back place. Housing is way too expensive even renting. One of the world’s unliveable cities! The only good thing there is plenty of work opportunities, that’s it. Just honest opinion don’t be mad! Lived there for 12 years! ✌️

Both Adelaide and Melbourne have their own micro climates happening in different parts of the city. If you go into the hill suburbs in Adelaide like Stirling and Mount Barker the rainfall increases quite substantially with light flurries of snow recorded most winters around Stirling. The rainfall for Stirling is almost double that of the Adelaide CBD. If you head into the Northern suburbs of Elizabeth and Salisbury then it's the opposite. Much less rain than the CBD and a few degrees hotter. In Melbourne you will get a similar thing happening with suburbs closer to the Dandenongs being cooler and wetter whilst outer Western Suburbs of Melton and Bacchus Marsh are much drier and a few degrees warmer. As a South Aussie living near Melbourne the biggest difference is the changeability. Melbourne can have 4 seasons in the same day and it's easy to get caught in the rain. Adelaide on the other hand is very predictable. The weather rolls in slowly from the West and then disappears slowly off to the East. You can rely on Adelaide's predictability far more than Melbourne's variability. The Vics get more rain through the summer months with Adelaide being hotter and drier which facilitates Adelaide's ability to make high standard Red Wines. In short Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate whereas Melbourne is much more temperate.

I lived in Melbourne back in 1999-2000 on a backpacking trip from Canada. Met some amazing people there and many fond memories. Have dual Aus/Canadian citizenship so sometimes think about moving back, lol.

Your videos and this series are great resources. Among other things, the climate comparisons are extremely helpful. Having lived in cities like Chicago and Washington, D.C. I don’t think any of the major Australian cities have bad weather and when I hear people in Melbourne complaining about Melbourne’s weather. I find myself thinking “you cannot be serious.” My guess is most people from the U.K. agree. I’ve visited Australia close to 20 times since 1998, being particular to the Gold Cost (Main Beach and Broadbeach), Brisbane and Sydney. Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth are also very nice but I’ve only been to Perth and Adelaide once and want to see more of them. With Melbourne I sense there is one other important factor people need to consider - if they like what in the U.S. and U.K. tend to be referred to as “progressive” and “left-wing” socio-economic policies, my sense is they should be very comfortable in Melbourne; those not comfortable with those policies may want to take a hard look at Melbourne despite its other attractions. My sense is Brisbane and Sydney are more centrist. What I perceive as Melbourne’s pronounced tilt towards “progressive” policies and government intrusion became apparent with the extensive Covid lockdowns in Melbourne. While I believe Queensland had some different Covid restrictions which were burdensome, my sense is they were an anomaly that was only acceptable in Queensland due to the extraordinary circumstances. People that care about these factors need to scope out the climate in Melbourne and make up their own mind. One final note, people from the U.S., Canada, and U.K. who care about socio-political factors should note that the “Liberal” Party in Australia is more similar to the “Conservative” Party in the UK and the “Republican” Party in the U.S.

Water temperature in Adelaide is 19C to 22C. In Salvador (Brazil) 24C o 28C (summer). My Son intend (pretend replaced by intend in Oct/16/2024) to study in Adelaide moving from Brisbane.

Great video Lisa! We can compare Melbourne and Adelaide by footy grounds too! Melbourne has the mighty MCG, spiritual home of Aussie Rules footy, probably the home of Australian cricket too. Hosts the Boxing Day Test and the AFL Grand Final. Olympic stadium and can host a Taylor Swift concert too. Capacity 100,000 people. Adelaide has the Adelaide Oval they did a splendid job of redeveloping the ground about 10-15 years ago. Grandstands on three sides, on the fourth is the hill; lined with trees at the back. The heritage scoreboard and St Peters Cathedral in the background. Capacity 53,500. Very idyllic to be there in person or watch it on tv.
