+Irvin Morales I think his biggest weakness was himself. He just loved to fight too much and that ultimately proved to be his undoing. He deserves to be in the HOF. To this day, people remember Taylor for his flashiness, his exciting style, and for the fights he was involved with.

+Irvin Morales Well I suppose it depends what you base a hall of fame worthy career on, Taylor wouldn't be the worst to be inducted but he'd certainly be very far from the best. I'd vote him for the HOF, he's got some really good wins and in his prime he was insanely talented.

Needs to be a movie on his life. MT was an amazing fighter and story...and a tragic one at that. Truly a tale of how a great Philly fighter lost his prime overnight in a fight where his heart was just a little bit just by seconds, too much for his body to keep up with. Stylistically, a favorite of mine!

If Taylor didn't have the philly heart, his career would have lasted a lot longer. You don't see speed like his every day but his willingness to engage in punch exchanges when he had no serious punching power was his biggest demise. Guy had the speed, the foot work and the heart. Just too much heart though.

Meldrick was an exceptional talent it's just too bad no one was looking out for his best interests. The Chavez fight should have been stopped by the ringside doctor and/or his corner after rd 10 (his face was really swollen) And his promoter and manager should not have let him get back in the ring less than 5 months after the Chavez fight. He should have at least taken 8 months off to heal properly. Then just two years later he's fighting Terry Norris for the 154lb title? His body frame was that of a lightweight.

Respect to Taylor. Fought everyone, never "pick and choose" opponents. This is what set him apart from fighters like Mayweather. Floyd protected his record by fighting who he wanted, when he wanted at the weight he wanted. Sorry but the world knows this. Taylor, Leonard, Tyson they all have loses because to be the best, you must fight the best. A lost to a great boxer counts more than 10 wins to an ok boxer or a boxer who's prime has passed.

He was a young phenom. He won Olympic gold medal at 17. He beat guys like Buddy when he was at his best. The Chavez fight was sad. Winning on points, got dropped, when Richard Steele, finished counting, there was 4 seconds on the clock, Chavez was NOT IN A NEUTRAL CORNER. If Steele sent Chavez to a neutral corner like he should have, the bell would have rung, history would have been different. SHRUGS.

Taylor beats chavez unofficially but in exchange for that was a career ending beatdown. Theres a clip in reels where mike said in his podcast that the fights were fixed when he was still fighting like the refs are already fixed to help him, I cant find the link but I think he was high while explaining that. Also lets add the fact that the episode in hbo boxing legendary nights chavez vs taylor, there were also speculations about richard steele and don king in fixed fights, and tyson was under don king around this time. Fixed or not, but because of their gameplan, the refs call for stopping the fight was just about right, shouldve been early like before reaching championship rounds, he shoudlve let the doctors check taylor if he was still okay to go. Its sad that his best fight went down that way. A true HOF, olympic gold medalist high rated pro 💪💯🏆

@@hanzagod I forgot to say that I didnt mean to say that the fight itself was fixed. What I mean was the refs call, idk if the judges were involve. But what I really want to say that is the referee richard steele was favoring chavez instead of being fair for both of them. Because theres a clip about mike tyson saying when he fights back then, its like the referee in the fight is always in favored for him and watching back hbo legendary nights chavez vs taylor, there are rumors about richard steele and don king.

rewarded means to accept corruption? the K.O was legitimate the moment Taylor didn't answer Richard Steele's "are you ok?" question. Chavez would have been robbed off his KO. Taylor lost the fight fair and square, he was winning up to the 2:58 of the last round. That's all there is to it, he melted against Chavez power

Steele isn't the timekeeper. Meldrick wasn't in a state to continue so the fight was rightly ended.

Tbh he won that fight against Chavez, all he had to do was answer the ref and he would’ve won, sad what happened to him after

Meldrick was a tremendous fighter, shame the Chavez fight ruined his career, but no shame in losing to a legend. Also no shame in having a draw with Howard Davis Jr. who wasn't as fast as he was in his prime when he fought Taylor, but still had enough skill to give Taylor fits.

+haNZAgod I think Taylor was a dead fighter after the Crisanto Espana fight where he lost his WBA welterweight title then he drained himself to make 140 to fight Chavez, Taylor didn't have it any more

No offence but most of his punches look weak, lacking power. He punches from his elbows as you would see in amateur bouts, which provide speed but reduce power. Also he has only 20 KOs in 47 matches so I am pretty convinced he sacrificed his power for speed.

Bascorasco Read my commemt above your BULLSHIT, asswiper!!!! Your hero said Meldrick was the hardest and toughest fighter he ever fought, out 115 fighters. He also said it was the most difficult fight of his career. The people of Juarez sure knew who Meldrick was when he went there in Feburary of 1999!!!!

And that shit post doesn't refute my comment in any way you fool. It was a tough fight, never claimed it wasn’t but it wasn’t the masterclass from Taylor like your suggesting. Chavez was busting him up all throughout leaving his face looking like the elephant man by the 11th round. Your unhealthy obsession with this punch drunk palooka has you going on random videos attempting to disparage a boxing legend. Pathetic.

its kinda fucked he lost that ceasar fight. honestly why can a ref choose to stop a fight with 20 secs. and just choose the winner hate it that their arent two extra refs like their are judges. refs have too much power. can allow one fighter to fight dirty or lose the fight off of a single knockdown with giving a count.

@@elmaromero8585 Taylor loved to get into brawls too much. Plus, his corner stupidly told him that he was behind on the cards (he wasn't) and that he needed to go out and fight the final round. It surprises me that trainers as great as Lou Duva and Georgie Benton would give him such terrible advice.
