Only unprofessional critics would write something like that, they should review the story and performances, not the way the actors/characters look.

katyga Well, if it's part of the issue then yes. Like if the character is meant to be older and someone did a bad make-up job that should be pointed out

why does it take men relating to women through their own mothers, sisters, daughters for them to give a shit about sexism and misogyny? can't we just say judging women based on appearances is bad and they get it? why does it have to be would you ever dream of judging your daughter this way... I don't understand why men's empathy extends to women only when it affects their own lives and the women they love.
@urbanaminoa8 жыл бұрын
+Lea Gebbie My male best friend once adamantly informed me that his mother and sister were nothing like *women*, they were a whole separate thing, because otherwise, how could he date? As a girl with mostly male friends, it was one of the most Mars-Venus moments I've ever had. We're all the same kind of women!!! Sigh.

We tear down women to the point they get assaulted and then disbelieved. There are ways we do terrible things to men and let's all really look at that because it makes us all unsafe and also because we all deserve to be treated decently. This is the way to address gender - not by blaming men, but by citing the individual, holding them accountable (respectful), differentiating between the person and their error, encouraging them to grow and supporting them publicly instead of humiliating them. Her husband is undoubtedly a very happy man.
@TheEthiopian19878 жыл бұрын
She is what the original Feminist group was all about. Like you said they would address the individual rather than a specific gender. Unlike the Feminists of today, who say every man rapes a woman even with their eyes. Hopefully more feminist supporters end up like her.
@kimberley45am7 жыл бұрын
+TheEthiopian1987 Do you really not see the complete irony in your comment. You dont think men should be generalised, but then generalise modern feminists as all the same! Come on you must realise how hypocritical that is??
@Bikewithlove7 жыл бұрын
+TheEthiopian1987 - Thank you for your sentiment, but I never mentioned feminism. I've never been interested enough in feminism to know much about it. I'm only interested in enjoying a cup of coffee without having to meditate for an hour afterward to overcome the deliberate abuse I receive by females I've never met who fancy themselves a victim.
@Bikewithlove7 жыл бұрын
+kimberley45am - I wish you and I could trade places for a day so that I could enjoy time with your supportive network of friends and family on Facebook and you can go through the checkout line at Whole Foods and get treated like you're the enemy. Let's trade places on our birthdays so that your co-workers will bring me cake and balloons and sing to me, and on my birthday you get all the dirty looks. I'd love to go out and party with any and all of the guys you rejected, and you can deal with the discomfort of bumping into someone I politely asked on a date who rejected me because I disgust her with my presence. I would like to know what it feels like to have people open doors for me, call me beautiful, and let me out first when there's a fire or the boat is sinking. I'd like to go to ladies' night and drink for free. So go easy on TheEthiopian, he's probably paying child support.

I have lot of respect for Melissa McCarthy. I watched the movie, "Tammy" when it was out in movie theaters. It was a good movie. I like that Melissa didn't stay silent and be some doormat or wallflower. When someone says disrespectful, hurtful, horrible, or critical things that not only put down one woman, but a lot of women at the same time as well, then a strong woman will make it a point to call that person out and say something to make that person rethink his or her hurtful words, actions, and behavior. Melissa is my kind of gal. She is not a bystander. And she articulates, expresses, communicates, and speaks her mind. She is correct with what she said. By putting down her and the way she looks, that guy didn't happen to think about his own daughter, and how he was setting a bad example for his daughter. The hurt that some people write and say about other women can be applied to their daughters or women they care about - and then it makes the people who said the hurtful comments rethink their words, behavior, and actions, and hopefully change for the better. Staying silent leads to no constructive change or progress. Speaking up and standing up for yourself leads to your critics or people rethinking what they did and maybe perhaps some of them changing for the better or rethinking hurtful things and actions they have said and done. Good on Melissa for speaking up. She is a hardworking, funny, articulate, caring, compassionate Midwestern gal, and I appreciate her for being a strong, expressive woman, and I think she is pretty. She is not ugly.

The best message 💓 a great reminder to have conversations instead of judgments, really see people and that we all have things to learn, and be kind- opens eyes, heard and changes the world.
@johnd55749 жыл бұрын
The fascinating thing is that we are now starting to do this to boys and young men - and still doing it to young women. This kind of societal judgment hasn't stopped, as body issues and "perfect bodies" are still major issues for women, but young boys and men are also starting to have sharp increases in anorexia and bulimia -- as well as seeking surgeries for cosmetic reasons. At the same time, all the societal judgment and self-dislike is building to the point where America is again at the top of worldwide obesity charts (about 30% for Americans). Constant negativity and judgment, combined with insanely fast weight loss on "Biggest Loser" TV shows (which ultimately don't help people with maintaining weight loss at all), is the absolute worst type of "motivation" we can do for women or men. Negativity just puts people into downward spirals. Good for Melissa for standing up to unfair judgment!
