Melissa Teresa Vargas Abreu (born 16 October 1999) is a Cuban-born Turkish volleyballer, who plays for Fenerbahçe Opet.
She was a member of the Cuba women's national volleyball team and was part of the Cuban national team at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Italy. Since 2023, she has been playing in the Turkey women's national volleyball team.
The Turkey women's national volleyball team (Turkish: Türkiye Kadın Voleybol Milli Takımı) is formed by the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) and represents Turkey in international CEV and FIVB organizations.
The team is one of the most successful national sports teams in the country and is nicknamed "Filenin Sultanları"[2] (English: Sultans of the Net) since the 2003 Women's European Volleyball Championship hosted in Ankara, Turkey. It is ranked first in the FIVB World Rankings as of July 2023. Daniele Santarelli is the new head coach of the team.

having to watch Turkiye's previous games without Vargas i came to realise that yes the team is strong but with Vargas it has become stronger. Some people are just getting annoyed that a Cuban player has brought about change in the team nothing else this is why they comment things like Turkey can still win a cup without Vargas which is a cap. Its is funny that some people say Vargas is only good at scoring cos that her only duty even after Vargas has proven herself as not only a scorer of the team, like she is literally the one picking up those balls from the ground, she mopping that court every match, she defends well too. Every player selected to be in the national team has chosen been within a certain criteria and they matched it no doubt but Vargas is an allrounder. I love this team.

@@dedekorkut733 I know right, how can I forget to mention the coach, he's soo friendly with the team that everyone unleashes their full potential unlike their previous coach they were constantly pressured and it wasn't good at all. I just love all of them to bits. A coach like that is a good leader that can turn anything into gold.

@@Olebogeng31 previous coach Guidetti (he's now coaching Serbia) had feuds with some players. Some great players were not invited to the national team just because Guidetti has personal problems with them..But Santarelli called them back as soon as he took over the job and gave the jersies they've deserved for years.. For instance Örge is one of the best liberos in the world if not the best and she couldn't play for the national team for 4 years just because of Guidetti.. A really valuable setter Naz Aydemir left the team and retired from national team after a fight with Guidetti during the last olympic games.. She was just 31 years old then.. Neriman Ozsoy was one of them too.. National team has been lack of a good outside hitter for years and we couldn't use Neri because of the same reason..and there are more.. whatever.. Santa came and the team changed.. And Vargas is the cherry on the cake..

Surely she deserves to have spotlights on her, however Hande and Captain Eda had at least that many points may be more during the match. Also Bulgaria challanged good for a long time during first two sets. Congrats Our Sultans of the Net. This summary misses the most interesting part of the match. The strange mistake the referee made! The "referee" first granted the breake request of Bulgaria. Some Bulgarian players has walked out of the game. Then when the Turkish player did not use the service, the "referee" gave the point to Bulgaria! This was corrected only after a long struggle by Turkish coach shouting "are you joking" and with the efforts of the side referee. She should not be allowed to referee a game on this level!
