Wow! I didn’t know that Kevin had these. But moreover, I didn’t know how handy it would be to have one. Thanks for showing me this great tool. I love synclastic pieces.

You can get an Arbor Press from Harbor Freight if you have one in your area...Creations Elaine Marie...and I really enjoyed the video...keep up the good work...also...I attached a spring from the handle bolt that secures the handle from slipping ...to the other side to keep from slipping out of the hole...no collar need...

Hi Melissa, on a couple of other channels the "guys" show how to get the handle in the correct position by grinding off the bottom two teeth on the ram. I sure like your idea a whole lot better by simply relocating the handle . I was showing my wife the other way of grinding off the teeth, when I came across your method. She was quick to jump on this and asked, now why would you grind off the teeth when you can do it this way ? OK out to the shop and see if your way works on my press and I'm sure it will. It seems like all those arbor presses are identical. I got mine from Harbor freight and it's pretty new. Thanks young lady....Ken ..Marina CA

They should be there now. I think the video posted just as they were working on their site. I just looked and it is on their front page.

Also, if you need more power, you can slip the cap off one end of the lever bar and slide a longer metal pipe over it to extend it temporarily to give it more torque...but hold on to it!

I leave the collar off the shaft also but forget sometimes and it slowly slips out. 😁

Hi Melissa, I'm back and I know I am going to take some heat from the "guys" but I like your idea. I took the press apart earlier this morning with the intention of grinding off those teeth, but decided it was a lot of hassle and set it aside for another day. Sure glad I didn't do it then, because your idea in my opinion works as well or better and doesn't involve grinding off any metal. I'm 76 years old and know a good idea when I see one. Thanks again....sorry guys....Ken

Kenneth Bartlett Sorry for the delay in responding. My computer died and I had to get a new one. I am so glad to hear that this method worked for you. Yes, Grinding would be awfully difficult and long for this same outcome. Thank you so much for the fantastic feedback.

Melissa, I wanted to buy a tool that. Would help me stamp on metal, so I wouldn't stamp on my fingers. I purchased an Arbor Press from Harbor Freights today but it does not come with a chuck where I could insert and secure my stamps. Do you know of any way of modifying it so I could use it for stamping on metal? Your Potter is a dream for someone who is just starting to work with metal. Much appreciated.

I wish I could find those things you call mandrel bits and forming blocks at 4:40 in the video, but I can't find them anywhere on your site.

Glenn Stephens I am not sure if Potter USA offers them anymore. I would give them a call. Sometimes he has things that aren’t listed on his site.

Do you need an arbor press if you have a hydraulic press?

No. If you have a hydraulic press I don’t believe you need one.

hi, for those of you that use a 1/2 ton arbor press... what ga metal do you use with it? i bought one and a few design stamps a month ago, and i tried using 24ga dead stof sterling silver, nothing transfered, so i went to 26ga, and i got a little impression and a better one after i used a hammer on the ram, which i dont want to do. i thought i would just have to pull the handle down and then my design would be on the metal? maybe im just really weak? i just ordered 28ga but am worried that might be too thin. i can never get the full design when i hand stam, i've tried the tilt n tap but always mess it up. letter stamps,numbers and simple designs i have no problem free handing on metals up to 24ga.
@MelissaMuir2 жыл бұрын
You will actually get better impressions with thicker metal. The thinner metal doesn’t have enough metal to move for the impression to be strong.
