In this weeks lesson we'll cover a great arpeggio you can use to capture the sound of the melodic minor scale Cmin maj9. I've notated 3 licks and I'll show you how to use them over 3 types of chords.
C minor: for a straight melodic minor sound
B7: for an Altered sound
F7: for a lydian dominant sound
We also cover basic theory on how to find the chords derived from a scale.
Enjoy!

Terrific as usual. These lines were composed for the lesson, of course as they should have been. However, even when Jack is improvising , it still seems composed. It's so melodic, no throw away notes....and the kicker is that it's usually at slow tempos. Hard to kill slowly but he does.

I first started watching your videos and following you on social media because of your AMAZING playing. There's something about what you coax out of the guitar from a melodic perspective that's really in your own voice. Such a rare and beautiful gift! I'm now a happy supporter of yours on Patreon and I can't wait until the work meeting I'm about to Zoom into ends so I can start diving into your fantastic stuff. (Don't worry, I'll still get my work done, but your lessons will be a very welcome and energizing antidote to work drudgery -- thanks!)

Not in my opinion. It’s a minor scale that works over minor chords.

@@JackRuch yea i see where ur coming from. I just always learned to associate any scale with whatever its modifications are from a major scale. Especially since its only 1 note different than the ionian scale.

Hi Jack. Thank you for this lesson on the C melodic arpeggio. Question: Why does the F lydian dominant chord resolve to Amin? I can see that the “shape” of the C melodic arpeggio contains a Aø7 chord-is that the explanation? I see, too, the F lydian dominant is the vi (minor 6th) of A, which goes to the V7 (E7) and then Amin. Is that it?

Very nice lesson, but why we dont use the note that "Make" the melodic minor ? Wich is " A" int this case. Maybe i'm wrong but without this note (a) or major sixth its just sound like a Hamonic minor arpeggio . Thanx
