I'm convinced there are two kinds of depression. One is easier to solve than the other. One kind is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. No amount of forcing yourself to just feel happy will change this. There are a number of theories on how to fix this (prescription drugs, therapy, other stuff). The other kind of depression is caused by many different factors but brain chemical imbalance isn't one of them. Fixing just one of those factors won't be enough to fix your depression but fixing each of these factors over the course of time will help a lot. For a list of things to avoid do the opposite of what's said in this video by CGP Grey (No, CGP Grey doesn't want you to be sad. It's reverse psychology) kzbin.info/www/bejne/goCUnod7gdSdbNE
@62723554636372 жыл бұрын
@@danielsjohnson While there is usually a neurochemical component to any depression (because that's just how the brain works), it is rarely the underlying cause of depression. There is no currently accepted (correct and complete) theory on how depression works and likely can't be because the diagnosis contains a group of conditions (certainly more than "two kinds of depression") which are similar enough in origin, symptoms and treatment. I expect to see a differentiated biochemical/neurological picture of what is currently grouped as depression (and maybe consecutive attempts to develop more specialized treatment/medication) over the next twenty or thirty years.

This describes depression so well. You sit outside alone.I ts really beatifull weather but all the colors seem weak and dull and you just try to say to your self that i am happy so you would believe it and your mood change.
@kriscain60894 жыл бұрын
So, as someone with bipolar, this is uncomfortably relatable. Everytime I get depressed, I realistically know I'm gonna be happy again, if anything I'm gonna be too happy and make some bad decisions. But I can't feel that when I'm depressed. I'm not in control of it. I want to be happy, yeah, but do I get a choice? And if someone tells me bad news while I'm manic (happy), I'm not gonna handle it properly. I'm gonna be stupid. I'm barely gonna acknowledge it. When the depression hits is when I'll notice "oh... that happened." I know I want to be happy. But I know what I want from happiness too. So, uh, this kinda hit hard.
