I stumbled upon this song lately from iTunes and I played it at work today getting the same reaction from everyone. It is amazing. We should be sitting in a smoky jazz club somewhere sipping on red wine, swaying our heads with our eyes closed. Although she is gorgeous, her voice is even more so. Hearing this, makes me want to sing jazz again. What an inspiration.

@KYLYKaHYT They are fanned frets. Many other guitarists, such as Andy McKee and Don Ross, have used fanned frets on their guitars. This helps in intonation of the instrument, and overall keeps the instrument in tune as you progress higher up the fretboard. It works like a piano. The strings in the piano are differently shapped from each other, as the higher note strings are shorter than the lower note strings. The fanned frets imitate this, in order to produce an overall better sound.

@KYLYKaHYT : It is a Novax guitar...like the one that the amazing Charlie Hunter has made famous. It has 3 bass strings and 5 guitar strings...you got to be a bit of a monster to play them...but the angled frets are because of the intonation and tension. And yes, Ms. Gardot is the best thing since sliced bread. *slobber*

It's a seven or eight string guitar. The bottom strings are indeed bass strings, and he is, in essence, playing guitar and bass simultaneously--quite a feat. The frets are angled to compensate for the highly varied weights and thicknesses of the strings.
