Great lesson…many thanks! I was becoming a little depressed in a large session I have been labouring over for way too long. Understanding Multiple selection, time handles and best workflow from this lesson has lifted the gloom massively. Huge fan! I actually was in at the very beginning when it came in that very Fine wooden box..x Track selection snap shots would be good, if for example one has 50 tracks where additional vocal layers have been added over time, to multiple select & edit tracks 2,3,6,7,39,40 for example, requires a lot of unselecting. Of course this becomes cumbersome if alternative selections come into play as the edit falls into good order. Even a few snap shots/recalls would really focus the editing session, orientation wise, as it progresses.

Oh thanks for this video sooo much Rich! I have been trying for months to perfect double-tracking of my nylon-string chord-melody lines. (Yes... my guitar does my "singing" for me.)... I especially could never quite figure out how I could edit the two tracks at the same time to tighten them up. The biggest help was your showing how to use the "Spread Unison" button (03:55). What a game changer that is going to be for me. Your discussions of enabling "Show note separations" (02:07), using the timing tool and the time-handle tool make much more sense in the "spread unison" view. Of course, until I can really practice what I (hope to be) learning here, I won't go so far as to say "I have it!". I seem to notice a pattern emerging when I watch Melodyne how-two videos and think I am understanding... Then when I try to actually put that knowledge into practice, I feel like I have been forced to eat LSD, stripped naked, then thrown into Times Square in NYC on New Years Eve. That is, I am rarely as "oriented" as I think I'm going to be. 😅🤣😂 But having said that, I am "cautiously optimistic" that I might be able to move ahead with my "double track" editing. Thanks for the thoughtfulness you put into your videos, Rich!

I agree. While Rich generally speaks very clearly, there are times when I can't quite understand a few words... and his mustache/beard combo keeps me from "reading his lips". A working CC track would make so much life easier. Case in point, at 03:55 when he describes the "Spread Unison" button, I just couldn't tell what he was saying. I had to replay those few seconds 5 or 6 times to hear "spread unison". A working CC would have simplified that greatly.

Excellent. Thanks a lot. Really digs in deep. I have been struggling with aligning a harmony vocal to the main vocal and used "track" in quantize, which worked out quite well. If you ever have the time to do a video on aligning guitar and bass to drums, for example, that would be fabulous.

Rich of course is a real Melodyne expert, but in this case I‘d rather wait till I’ve got the Studio version. So far I‘ve „only“ got the Editor version, that means I‘ll have to wait for a good upgrade offer from editor to studio. Then it‘ll make sense to go through this tutorial. But Rich‘s tutorials have helped me a lot so far.

in reaper, normal editing is much faster than this melodyne workflow =D since celemony is actually very good with makros, you really should make a makro for timealigning different takes, would be amazing for editing double tracked guitars etc, and you would steal a lot of customers from Vocalign, DO IT! i mean, most of the programming is already there! just imagine, if i could tune, deess, level, pitch and time correct my main vocal take in melodyne, and then just select all backing tracks, press a button and every other track would be deessed, level matched, pitch and time corrected in the same way. DO IT! i know you can

@@jips123 same for me! Melodyne is definitely inferior for this
@adralicus2 жыл бұрын
@@jips123 It's quite arduous using Melodyne Studio to time align stacked vocals. Especially if you're in a hurry. My current method is to use Melodyne to align and tune the top vocal where needed . I then freeze that object/clip and switch to Revoice 4 and use the Melodyne edited vocal as the template for the rest of the backing vocals using the preset "Slightly loose timing & pitch" Revoice will then transfer the timing and tuning of the Melodyne edited track to the rest of the stacked vocals. It generally does a good job and is much faster. Hopefully Melodyne will introduce a similar workflow in a future version.

What if there's a live recording of a vocal double which we need to separate from the other.... which algorithm should we use?
@celemonyАй бұрын
You mean if you have a full mix stereo track only? If the vocal double is very close to the lead vocals, it will be hard or even impossible to separate it from the lead. Also, that’s not what Melodyne was designed for.
@sekritskworl-sekrit_studiosАй бұрын
@@celemony That's fair. And I appreciate it. I suppose that with all of the stem separation tools available, I was hoping that Melodyne would be able to handle a task such as this to have greater impact than those tools for such a job.

how do you go about editing pitch for doubles, in melodyne studio I tried matching the double to the lead and I did, but now if I listen to the double solo'd, it sounds like a computer, it's really weird... I tried singing them as closely as possible, I didn't feel like I did too much tuning, I wanted to keep it natural also my vibrato on one track can kinda go the opposite direction of the vibrato on the other track and it can make things sound off
@celemony Жыл бұрын
You might have overdone it with Melodyne. On the other hand, noone will ever hear your vocal doubles in isolation, so if it sounds great in context, there’s nothing to worry about. 🙂

In "spread unison mode" how do you control which track is displayed as higher? (I'm on Melodyne Studio 5, standalone). You don't explain that here, and there's nothing in the manual explaining that.

@celemony10 ай бұрын
Hey Roger, we have a dedicated multi-track edition of Melodyne, i.e. Melodyne studio. With the smaller Melodyne editions, you can instantiate the plug-in on multiple tracks in your DAW, but of course Melodyne studio is the only edition that shows you all the tracks in one single window. Hope this helps.
