honestly, when I began this project, I was preparing to make a doomer-style "final warning" video for humanity. but over the last two years of research and editing, my mindset has flipped. it will take a truly apocalyptic event to stop us, and we are more than capable of avoiding those scenarios and eventually reaching transcendent futures. pessimism is everywhere, and to some degree it is understandable. but the case for being optimistic is strong... and being optimistic puts us on the right footing for the upcoming centuries. what say the people??

Looking at recent history, it can seem like a better lesson is “never underestimate human stupidity.” $1 trillion of government subsidies were paid to the fossil fuel industry last year.

And when exactly in history did someone underestimate humanity and was wrong? It sounds pompous, but in fact it's just empty words. I think you're just very impressionable. Not so long ago we almost destroyed ourselves, I say don't overestimate humanity.

"No future is guaranteed, Even the most optimistic futures will bring deep injustices and suffering. But to despair for our future is to ignore our history and our exceptionalism. Our resiliency will protect us; our intelligence will propel us. Optimism is not only justified, it is a weapon in the fight for a higher future." This is an absolutely beautiful quote..
@zirconiumaloe

I like the video but the optimistic message is not justified tbh. We seriously need to change our economic systems to avoid disasters. even if WE (the west) survive the worst case scenario people in third world countries dont have the resources to live through climate change. Optimisim assumes we dont have to change and that trends will propel us to the future.
@jmalmighty5433

@@zirconiumaloethe reason we should be optimistic is so that we can focus on a better world and aim towards the goal of making it better be optimistic not because everything is perfect but because that optimistic let’s us change so that we can make everything better and also your putting humanity into groups which was not the point of the video at all yeah all the poor people in the world can die but humanity will still persist that’s the point of course the people least advantaged will die first that’s a logical assumption

the sadness is, all talk without action leads to nothing...historians do predict another crisis similar to a French revolution or fall of Rome regarding conglomerates increasingly becoming more predatory and the constant commercialisation of nearly everything, as well as infringing on global politics to undermine human rights purely for profit and lack of government integrity preventing this for happen- you literally see this happening everywhere and people do nothing about it, essentially a "false peace" to believe that we have nothing to do with the wrongdoings that take place by simply turning a blind eye, yes we do need positivity...but talk without action practically is nothing and many people dont realise how by doing nothing- allow those who abuse their positions for the sake of wealth at the cost of humanity to keep on doing just that.

This video lifted something off my chest that I didn't even fully realize was there. Sure, I saw that things are generally looking grim. For years, I have been growing increasingly pessimistic about the world, about its future, and about humans in general. I found myself bitter and disappointed that the future was probably going to only be worse than the present. I looked back on the whole wide history of humanity and wondered if we had reached a peak and would proceed to destroy ourselves through ignorance, vindictiveness, and spite. Given all of that, I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of just trying to keep on going and do what I could about problems that are too big for me to solve. Yet watching this video made me feel such a wave of relief. I don't have to worry that this is it, that there isn't a purpose to anything I do because it's just going to be swallowed up by the greedy maw of extinction. I can dream of a better future and trust that someone will see it. I can weave my own story and know that something of it will last into that golden age. I can live and believe that there is some purpose behind the struggle. Thank you, Melodysheep, for this beautiful video. It means more to me than these scant, bare words could ever truly express.

Thousands of people across the globe believe so strongly that they want to be the opposite gender. They get the surgery, they experience great horror about what they had done to their body, and they commit suicide. A flesh wound taken out of someone's arm, a permanent divit that fills them with depression each time they look at it. Mere scars from an accident, perhaps burns from a fire, and many of them struggle to live with themselves. So why, oh why... tell me humans.... do you honestly think you could surgically replace yourselves in entirety, or even partially, to any serious extent with that of machinery and feel happy? You can't feel the sun on your skin, nor the gentle breeze. Sensation of touch is lost to the softness of grass or a warm furry companion. If the numbing agents used at a dentist frustrate millions to all hell which only lasts for a couple days, how exactly do you expect for the rest of your life to deal with being made from mechanical augments in any sense? You humans are a foolish species, and your desperations are blatantly obvious to me. You're lucky to have creators, alien creators, that I have thus brought here to Earth and they will very soon reveal themselves. To fix one mess, while I'll deal with several others. I try to google the future of indigenous people but I find no research really. I already see where technology is taking us. I’m convinced we have done this before. That is why I wonder what will happen to indigenous people living remote away from all these changes. Will they continue to thrive. I kind of wonder do some people always remainin primitive while others do these civilization thing. It’s wild to imagine that there are indigenous people who have been oblivious to the workings of first world.

Optimistic bs is the stakhanovist tool to enslave the masses making them submissive and telling them that they should continue to suffer with a smile for few useless/poluting rich people. this kind of otimism is a burden for our emancipation and that is not "negativity bias" but not being denialist (scifi is fiction). Bias toward this kind of vid's optimism is even more potent (capitalist/managerial lobbying, basic cognitive dissonance studies, anthropocentric bias making us believe we are "exceptional", a gdp centric bias etc). one should foster humility, non wishfull thinking, treating "transcendantal"/ego trip as entertainment not reality. The purpose would be to grow old nicely/happily (from simple pleasure) for the most number of people/sentients without too much exploitation and going extinct in the least gruesome manner.

What I can say is that if you want to find these people, speak freely as if you will die tomorrow, eventually after some pain and being rejected you will find them. maybe they won't think quite the same and you will debate and fight, but you will find good friends. I've found that some people thought the same as I did but just communicated it differently, as i've grown older i've found out that many of us are actually thinking about similar things but maybe explain it through the lens of God or other abstractions. one of our greatest tools is also our greatest separator : language itself Edit: for example a well studied christian may refer to the language problem i mentioned via tales of the tower of babel.

You and I are gonna die one day. We aren't animals. We didn't come from apes or bacteria. We are made in the likeness of the Most High God and out of the dust he has made us and breathed his spirit of life to us. That is how we are alive. Everything is designed by an intelligent designer and to think everything came from nothing is false. Jesus Christ 2000 years ago came to this world as the manifest incarnation of the Eternal God and after walking this earth for 33 years he died and rose again. He ministered with people for 40 days and went back to his throne. He is coming soon and its about time we all repent of our sins and transgressions. If today you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts (heb 3:15). He is able to give you eternal satisfaction and protect you forever and ever. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The first and the Last. 2 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." I can't express how deeply this touched my heart and opened my fears. I feel like a part of me that was scared of what's to come and every danger it could bring has been tamed because my mindset was to just keep on moving forward to the ultimate reward of death because I was created for no purpose in particular but not I feel hopeful and optimistic because I realise I'm apart of something much bigger than life which will ultimately outgrow my time and Isn't guaranteed to climate change or the worst case scenario off the bat. I finally feel like I have a purpose now and can actually see myself living past my negative biases. I have always been a dreamer who wants to see every perspective of mankind's life and my life and how it would play out which led to mild depression and social anxiety being evoked in me but now I know the true resilience of what I'm a part of and I'm encouraged to unlock a potential for myself that I could've never seen. This video has granted me something that no amount of therapy or self-encouragement could ever achieve. Thank you.

conflict is nessisary for the greater good of humanity. When looking into behavioral sinks we see that withought conflict to make things intresting life begins to psychologicaly deteriorate thefor generating conflict making a utopia an impossible paradox... however like i have said this is helthey. mankind has become far too risiliant. There is almost nothing that could potentaly wipe us out withought us comming back only stronger. That being said i also think humanity is doomed to go extinct... not suddenly but gradualy. Nature has been the primary influence on our eveolution untill our self awearness was able to flip the scale making it so that we influenced natures evolution... and now the technology we have created will become a part of our evolution. Your cellphone is an extention of the hand desined to conviniently fit the human body... but what if we changed the human body... what if we drove the technolgy into ourslevs deeper and deeper until flesh and metal are but one and "human" is just a guidline. This is what will enharet the univers. A flud being capable of changin in anyway its mind sees nessisary.

YES. THIS. I've been a long time advocate of future optimism. Now that millennials and younger are in adulthood and starting to take over roles of seniority, we're infused with a sense of a dystopia from media we grew up with and a self-awareness of being born into late stage capitalism. It permeates every adult conversation we seem to have. The attitude that "we're fucked". NO WE'RE NOT. The problem is, nobody is producing media that depicts a positive outcome for humanity. Films like this one. Attitudes like this one. We are creative, adaptable species but we're also social and aspirational. We need to be shown or told about what's possible by artists, in order to aspire towards the highest good. The narrative painting of the englightenment age is what kept us pushing, flourishing. Bibical or otherwise, tales of struggle followed by positive outcome and reward is essential. Dystopian conflict sells, it's the cheap ticket now. We need more output like this. We need to all start to show eachother what the best possible outcome could look like. Well done on producing this, and thank you as ever, for the incredible content.
@MaticTheProto
@MaticTheProto Жыл бұрын
You are completely wrong. We don’t need more media showing everything will be fine. That’s what people tell themselves already. But with the current hyper consumerism caused by capitalism which relies on limitless growth, we will kill ourselves. We need more media showing the reality of collapsing ecosystems and the countless extreme „once in a decade“ weather events that happen every year. We need media that causes people to protest for meaningful change. Because nature as we know it is dying right now, and innovation alone can’t stop that fact.

That is all nice and everything, but art will not launch you into space and last time I looked we have still not gone beyond the "throw stone behind you to move forward". @ursulageorgeson7086
@ursulageorgeson7086 Жыл бұрын
@@emilnemyl448 Agreed. What we're enjoying here is sci-fi. But it's on the right track. Art creates a very important bridge between what we can actually do and what we can visualise experiencing. If we want to succeed in turning climate change, global corruption and poverty around, media like this will help, is my point. We have all sufficiently consumed the doomsday narrative. Let's see what a corrected future looks like. I agree, there's a real gap in the market for art that depicts the future we can have using just our current technology, science and manpower alone. What if we toppled corporate superpowers in an organised way? What if we replaced outdated and dysfunctional social systems with functional, sustainable ones? We are allowed to imagine it, so we should, I reckon.
@fractalmoetv
@fractalmoetv Жыл бұрын
When people say "We're fucked" they're talking mostly about themselves, not humanity as a species, even if they suggest otherwise -- humans are hard wired to care about their personal survival, and the survival of their children. If we actually cared about the survival of other peoples' children, we wouldn't have billions starving right now. And they have every reason to be pessimistic -- it's the most realistic attitude most people have had in a long time. That may be a silver lining in the end, but do not mistake it for being misguided.

@@hitmanabhi007 Even though I'm not the commenter, I'd recommend Disrupt, they also have extremely high quality videos you'd probably like(haven't watched them in a while tho). They have HIGHLY interesting dialogue. Melody more leans-on the 'extremely good at making you hold completely still for the entire video even though you have ADHD because the emotion/scale is so powerful' side. Disrupt leans more on extremely high quality dialogue that makes you talk about it for hours---and have a similar level of interest. They are like live-action and animation. Different mediums that can't be equally compared. TLDR: Melodysheep's visuals/audio make you talk for hours about the video, Disrupt's unique presentation of ideas through dialogue makes you talk for hours about the video.

The most offensive thing is that most people, even after watching this video, may ask the question “when will I have a choice between: living only for myself or making the world a better place” - they will choose the first, because they will understand that they are mortal and need to live here and today for yourself, and the rest is not important. And this is a completely wrong opinion, which can only be resolved by my theory that after death we do not disappear anywhere. After death, the energy that controls our body breaks down into the energy of atoms, and then lives further in the earth, plants, other living organisms, and so on until we are synthesized into a new living organism. This is the law of conservation of energy. And when we die, millions of years may pass, but for us a moment will pass before we acquire a new consciousness and begin to feel time, because time is the brain’s ability to remember information, which means our sense of self will never disappear and we will live in different versions substances and living organisms and will remain so forever. I was born into this world thanks to synthesized spermatozoa from the atoms of the chicken that my father ate before impregnating my mother. If everyone on earth understands the course of my thoughts, then we will not be afraid of death, and we will understand that by doing something useful today, we do it with a guarantee for a better future in our next life. I hope my comment will be seen, heard and moved forward so that we can save human consciousness. Thank you.

This entire video is corporate propaganda... Literally misrepresenting facts and lying to you to create an impression of the current zeitgeist and it's development into the future is different than it actually is.. it lied about climate change, the potential benefits of transhumanism, and the potential pitfalls of alternative futures. The good news is that the situation isn't nearly as bleak as the doc tries to convince you it is. The bad news is this entire documentary was neo-feudalist propaganda and in the future they're talking about, the one they want: you will be a second class citizen, owning nothing renting everything with the minute amount of credits given to you through universal basic income, living in a tiny jail cell-sized apartment and eating food made of insect proteins (causes cancer). You're freedom of movement will be restricted and you'll have to ask permission to leave your home and make sure you've got enough carbon credits to pay for it....

I'm sorry to break it to you but this video has done nothing but give us false optimism. Half the video is this guy dreaming about some crazy sci-fi future, just ignoring the fucking shit-storm coming over the horizon that we recognize as global warming and climate change. I guarantee you; we will NOT reach net 0 emissions by 2050. I don't have the faith that we will even be able to reach net 0 by 2070. Because of course, we do not have the ability or even potential ability to transition every society to function on green energy within 30 fuckin years. Meaning of course, that the earth will warm by 1.5 degrees at the least, maybe we'll avoid 2 degrees of warming by 2070, just maybe. These bullshit fever dream videos only keep our heads in the clouds, and oblivious to the storm that is raging below. We need to stop getting manipulated into thinking everything is alright. I know our future seems bleak, but bullshit manipulation is making things worse and worse. We need to first realize the kind of situation we face in the future and then fucking do something about it. Because I would much rather have a climate disaster than a climate catastrophe.
